    Smokey bandit!

Went to this place last week and I must say that the burgers were fantastic! We tried the smokey bandit and pulled rib burgers between us and they were both cooked well. The rosemary fries were also great but felt like we should have ordered the devilled fries instead with all those toppings! Although the place itself wasn't very big the ambience was good and as you'd expect for a burger & shake place. All in all a must visit if your nearby (or even if you're not as was in our case!) A word of warning: I don't think the place is suitable for large groups (a previous reviewer seems to have had a problem as well) The queue seems to grow after 8 so if you arrive after than on a Friday / Saturday you should expect to wait a bit.

All the way in zone 3? Worth every bit of trouble going all the way to south for the most artisan and genuine ingredients burgers in town. Plus it's not that long of a walk from the station. Tooting's reputation has certainly been amped by the friendly 'jolly' London vibe with lots of quirky and hip cafes and pastry shops. But Meat and Shake will blow your expectations to the roof.first introduced by a friend. First of all, the venue is set on a great compact corner with the shape of a square. Easy to walk in and spot. Secondly, the interior of this place is spot on. With quirky industrial lamps hanging from pipe fencing, lighted letters and brass details and of course, the konjac leather seating, that give the 'standard' American diner a more rustic and contemporary feeling. We decided to order the smoking bandit and truffle shuffle, accompanied with some dirty fries. The burgers were amazing. My truffle shuffle burger was just spot-on. The melted cheese, delicate truffle oil and mushroom accompanied with a perfectly cooked patty was just the best combination. My partner's smoking bandit had an amazing smoked after flavor with the bacon. Our Dirty fries were some cheesy fries with chili, minced meat mayo and lots of sliced chillies on top. Alongside with the fantastic food, their extended selection of milkshakes that are thick with fresh and authentic ingredients are to die for. During my first visit, I opted for the cinnamon and fig one. This time I decided to try the mango and coconut one. I could taste that they used real mango and coconut. Plus they are suer thick and if you're a bit sensitive to some of the spicy sauces, it's a good relief for you. The best sauce they have there is the one garnished with herbs. After these burgers, hot sauce, plentiful fries and the thick milkshakes, you won't even be tempted to ask for dessert. Super friendly, quirky and professional staff. Also the burgers are served in glass cases, which makes it a perfect paradise for foodie instagrammers and snapchat fanatics. Try it you will know exactly why people from around the country travel to dine here.

I always get very excited to hear about new American restaurants popping up. When I heard about…read morethe grand opening of this place on Yelp, figured I should make my way over there soon and try it. It has a cool funky retro look - smallish but the restaurant was never too busy at a given point. Lotsa funky things to look at... like the stuffed pig machine. As I wait for my friend, I order a homemade ice tea. It was nice - tasted like the bottled lipton tea but didn't remind me of the homemade brew stuff I usually get back in the states. I'm glad I checked out some of the photos on Yelp before hand because I was tempted to get the spicy chicken wings as they totally remind me of buffalo wings but... no way would I care to order 3 wings for a fiver! I'll go straight to my mains thank you. I asked the waitress what the difference was between the baby back ribs and the thick cut ribs. She said the thick cut ribs have a layer of fat and the baby back ribs are leaner. Hmm.. really? I picked the obvious choice. When the ribs came out, a huge stack of them yes. You need to slab on the delicious BBQ you get on the side - if not, it's a bit meh. It was a little bit on the dry side - so just need to lather on more BBQ sauce. I ordered a side of mac and cheese which came in a mini pot. I open it and there are all these black burnt breadcrumbs. It wasn't even crunchy! This was a really bad fail - I'm sorry. I had some of my friend's fries and I don't see what they mean by seasoned. Seasoned fries usually have a bit of flavor besides salt. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich. The manslaw that it came with wasn't the best combo - so it was best to scrape it off. He also had a fried pickle... which I haven't seen in the states ever even traveling to the south... Lastly, we ordered dessert. My friend had the brownie which was okay. I don't think it's anything amazing. I ordered the key lime pie which was delicious. Nice, tangy and a good amount of zest. Overall, it was just okay - just the average feeling of a chain restaurant.

Right lets get down to business, the place is small but airy. Lots of booths and a long bar table in the middle and a few stools by the window. A good selection of beverages but no milkshakes the day we went as i was dying to try their peanut butter jelly. Between us we had a homemade lemonade and Iced tea which were bother flavorsome and refreshing. For starters we shared the pulled pork spring rolls (very meaty and tasty), calamari (a little bland and overcooked) and chicken tenderstrips (fantastic). We then had baby back ribs (kids loved the adult size portion and said they were very tasty). I had the belly pork ribs which were juicy and tasty but as 65% fat there was nothing left by the time i scrapped the jelly fat off., it can with a very nice bbq dip. for sides we ordered the best ever tasting mac n cheese i have ever had the pleasure of eating, creamy coleslaw and seasoned chips. The desserts were a choice of vanilla cheesecake (tasty) and the best ever BROWNIE OMG - it was huge slab of dense chocolate goodness as my youngest had this. I had to remove it from him 1/4 of the way in as he started buzzing off his seat - a chocolate overload!!! As it was opening night it was very slow and busy hence with the wait and ordering, eating etc we were there for 2 1/2 hrs (not great when you have kids). As its not far for us this will be our new rib place to visit

The only respite from the sport would have been the far too posh restaurant area at the back. In the end being cold was the lesser of the two evils and so the seats outside got an early season occupation (despite the heaters not being on). The beer was quite decent mind you. I did enjoy my pint of Otter bitter. I just wish I could have enjoyed it somewhere else. Very different to the pub I remember being here 7/8 years back.

I'm in two minds about this place…read more.. The good... The cocktails are unbelievably delicious! We tried a few different cocktails and each one was either totally unique and interesting or one of the best classic cocktails I've ever tasted. The bartenders are super friendly and clearly love their jobs. They have fun chatting to patrons recommending cocktails and just generally monkey-ing around behind the bar. The music, although quite loud, is really good. The DJ played a mix of 80's, pop and general party tunes the night we were there. The bad... The bar seems to be controlled by Gestapo. There are so many rules of what you can and can't do, where they want you to sit and what you can do when you sit there. For instance, you aren't allowed to sit at the outdoor tables with a drink. So why have outdoor tables. And we were not allowed to sit in the back room even though it was almost completely empty and they weren't serving food--not because they were closing the area, but because we weren't ordering food. Just seems a like the place is run like a club by a bunch of fun killers. The patrons are also less than desirable--the number of drunk freaks is unbelievable.

I went here for my friends bday and what a rip off it was! We ordered the BBQ picnic menu which was supposed to cost £25 per person and all we got was one mini burger, a tiny sliver of steak, liver pate spread with brioche and white bait! The serving was soooo small I would call them a plate of canapés NOT dinner! In fact the plate we ate off was tiny too! On the positive side, the venue is fantastic and service is amazing but after a tiny plate of unmemorable "canapés" (sorry I refuse to call what we were served dinner) I will not recommend or go back for the BBQ. In the end we spent £50 each person excluding the round of drinks the bday girl shouted and for the record we drank very little as it was a school night so the bill would have been a lot more! Spend your money elsewhere or host your own BBQ at home.

An ardent fan of North London, I reluctantly found myself in Clapham on a Sunday evening surrounded my Durham graduates and Sloaney wannabes. I needed a drink to cheer me up, but from the moment Becky took me to The Sun, I was appeased. The building itself is really nice. Tables are spaced out in the high ceilinged main bar, and it has a nice proper pub feel. Dark wood, and fireplaces add to the atmosphere, but I spent my night in the garden. The pub has a lovely beer garden, with lots of proper tables spaced out, cover for when it rains, like Sunday, and more annoyingly, but appreciated by most, patio heaters. I hate them! Who came up with the bright idea of trying to heat up outdoors? And people wonder why we have climate change problems! What a waste of energy. Okay, rant over (although 6 pints in this rant did happen)! The beer is good (I drank Pride all night, and it was the proper stuff, not the watered down stuff you get in brass and pine pubs). The BBQ is awesome (£5 for a burger, £6 for a lamb burger), and there is a full menu from the kitchens 7 days a week. The staff are friendly, although generally Sloaney rejects as previously mentioned (I think I had to help them with my change most rounds), but it makes them easy on the eye! Sorry if that is a really sexist remark, but if a pub is going to employ only young fit girls, what do they expect us to think! We went to the Sun for one before dinner. We left 5 hours later completely bungalowed! That should tell you everything you need to know. Awesome.

Nice pub with lots of space but quite busy on a Sunday…read more The downstairs has more modern decor while upstairs you get ceiling murals and a fireplace. There's an outside area which will be great in summer as it's more of a semi- hidden side garden than an open front and has couches too. The atmosphere was nice but I think more appropriate for bigger groups. If you have 10 people going for lunch then it's perfect, if you're only 2 it feels a bit like you are taking up more space than you should. The staff is quite friendly and will help you carry some of your glasses if you're buying a Roy d and can't carry everything because the upstairs bar is not always open. In general it's a good place to have in mind when looking for somewhere out of the way to go last minute, otherwise wait till the weather is better so you can go sit outside.
