I always go here to get my Paris candle as it is next to a friend's home. This time a new vendor, big, darker skin lady, as soon as I came in, she agressively asked how can I help you, and I immediately said Paris candle. Then I was with my friend about to look around to see what she would want as her birthday gift. The "new vendor" had no manner at all, rushing us to pay. I was surprised to be treated as if I were in a Boulangerie. Maybe she is more suited to work at McDonalds. It is wrong for them to hire this person. She was rude and uneducated. I found 2 other items to purchase as a gift and she was reluctant to wrap it. When I got out I noticed she did not even asked if I wanted any samples, which they usually offer. I spent about 400Eur for stupid candles and there was nothing nice as a service. Truly dissapointing. read more

I HAD to stop by Diptyque while in Paris. The candles and perfumes are a true example of Parisian chic. Are they pricey? Yes. But this isn't your average candle in my opinion. The scents, the packaging and the burn time place them on the higher end of candles and I like to use the finished glass as pen or make up brush holders. This location was intimate, but had a wealth of scents for both candles and perfumes. I walked in and was greeted warmly by the shop associates. Lucky for me, the lovely woman who helped me spoke English well and helped me practice my French while I was shopping. She was great and helped me pick out a few candles for gifts, and even boxed them beautifully for me and threw in Diptyque matches and samples of their perfumes. For those of you leery of the price point, this is an elegant gift to bring back from Paris. And, they currently are listed at $64 in the US (not including tax). I purchased mine for 48€ which comes to about $56. If you add in local taxes (in SF it's almost 9%) you end up saving about $10-12 which is a pretty good deal. read more

This is THE 34 Boulevard Saint Germain shop and I just had to stop by to pick up some Diptyque "bougies". This shop has the friendliest staff we've encountered during this trip to Paris. The gentleman behind the counter was truly lovely. Without actually knowing if we were truly there to buy or just window shop both the shop employees made us feel welcomed and we were encouraged to continue to browse. Once we were ready to be checked out we went to the counter and let the sales person know which candle scents we've selected to take with us. While we had a pleasant, short chat with the gentleman, the salesperson was bagging everything for us. We did mention to them we were buying some of them to take back as gifts so she provided the boxes of candles that were gift wrapped and included separate gift bags for each and every one of them. She even threw in some free samples which I really appreciated. I'm hooked on Diptyque candles and I plan to return to this location to stock up on more including items that aren't available at the American shops the next time I'm in Paris. read more

You can order them online but it just felt so special being able to smell all the scents in person and carrying it all the way home myself. One of the most exclusive/luxurious shopping experience's of my life so far. Truly one of a kind in the world. The folks at Diptyque take this candle business seriously, and it shows. From the moment you walk in, through the selection process (there is a method to picking the right scent which I wont spoil for you!), and then finally enjoying the pleasure of skipping out onto the St Germain district of Paris while admiring your Diptyque shopping bag : you are in 'Paris shopping heaven'. The scents and perfumes are delicious and decadent, with a scent made for anyone with a nose. The price does seperate the real from fake candle lovers-this is a straight quality, NOT quantity commodity. I promise, every Euro you spend is worth the warmth these candles bring. I realize I'm focusing on my experience at the store...the candles themselves are really amazing. They have a life span of forever, and the scents are far superior to any other candles you can buy on the market. Diptyque has done a beautiful job of living up to the "French Milled soaps and perfume" expectations, with their brand. I am now a complete loyalist to this brand, and a proud owner of two candles (The and Freesia), my last came with perfume samples which I gave away. If you can, visit this store in Paris...there are other stores scattered around the globe (even another in Paris) but nothing compares to this. I adore Diptyque candles because they will warm and permeate your home with pure balanced luxurious scents. All of the scents are fresh and intoxicating. The candles burn clean. If you are a Diptyque fan and you are in Paris, you must pay homage to the original store. The service is incredible and you will not be disappointed. It is just hard to make a decision on which scent to purchase. These artisan candles are made with a blend eight to nine waxes. The wicks are cotton braids with cellulose cores. How many times can you say you walked into a high end shop in Paris and had warm and kind service? Well, my visit to Diptyque was exactly that. The gentleman behind the counter was lovely. When he inquired about where I was from and I told him Los Angeles, he said "You know we have a store on Larchmont that opened recently...and you can get everything there". No pushy sales pitch? Nope, not at all, Instead, he introduced me to the few items that may not be available in the US and because he was so nice, I bought one. He loaded me up with samples and gave me his Berthillon ice cream recommendations and sent me on my way. The candles/products were spectacular but my experience wasn't entirely grand. The sales lady (wears glasses) seemed a bit.. absent when she was helping me. Maybe she thought I wasn't going to purchase anything but I was certainly looking to. She introduced me to 1 or 2 candles when I asked for something sweet-musty. After showing me to the two, she insist I dump the candles out onto the pillow (she says everyone does it) and to help myself in the store. Honestly, judging by hype I thought they would be more attentive/helpful. It was a bit disappointing. I bought two candles at the price of 88 euros. She told me that there was a location in downtown San Francisco.. AFTER she rang my transaction! If I had known I would have just purchased one instead of two (I needed at least one for my new apartment) so I could save my cash and luggage room. I tried to return one but she spoke to me very condescendingly in front of everyone and I felt very embarrassed as she kept repeating loudly that they don't accept refunds for cash... I had literally just purchased the candles from her 30 mins before and they were untouched--mint condition still in the bag. Yes, I paid for cash so it makes sense that I get cash for it back. Anyway, I thought the whole thing was ridiculous since I was just there, she rang the transaction and told me they could only give me a certificate for their store. Maybe I could have used it in SF?? Who knows, I was way too embarrassed with the way I was being spoken to in front of everyone so I just left.
