They are super…read moreheavily focused on new vinyl only, but the selection is pretty good and includes many new styles, as well as typical classic rock, blues/jazz, classical, hip-hop, etc. In the back on the floor are a small selection of used vinyl, though it's a tiny selection with not much to pick from. As someone who likes picking through vinyl for a good deal, I was super pleased to find the many bins of Clearance Vinyl along the floor under the main shelves of records. There is a ton of "old stock" new vinyl under there, many that have been marked down to well under $10. I'm really into mid 2000s vinyl and I found a good chunk of things I've been looking for down there, still sealed, waiting over a decade for me to pick through it. Stop by and give the place a look. You'll hopefully find something worth stopping by for. And while you're in, check out the insane selection of other things. The overall shop is a mixture of a head shop, record shop, bookstore, novelty store, jewelry store, and comic book store, and it seems to go on forever. A very unique and cool addition that any smaller college town would be immensely jealous of!

We were in a rush to claim our table at Texas Roadhouse, so we had to do the hard pass on that.

I was looking for a couple of books that they did not have because the books were out of print. The staff is helpful and will search and help find anything you looking for. They carry a really nice collection of STEM toys and LEGO kits. I picked up a flashcard game and several workbooks for my granddaughter. A nice assortment of crafting kits were on sale. There is a Starbucks inside the store if you need a coffee fix or want to sit and read after you shop.

There's always been at least one employee that will geek out with us about our favorite characters. I recently purchased a Coraline doll for my youngest from The Toy Pit, and she was so thrilled. In my last review, I think I complained about being a tired mom with macaroni and cheese stains on my pants. Well, nine years later, I'm still a mom but fortunately less tired, the stains on my pants are from red wine and vegan tzatziki, and the kids I made macaroni and cheese for have grown up and are very interested in music. And they ask me to take them to Luna Music. I'm always happy to oblige. My oldest kid love Luna Music because he can find albums for the bands that he listens to. Bands and artists that are not on my radar at all (Blood Orange? Anyone, anyone? Bueller?), but he loves them, and it makes him happy to find them here in vinyl. Luna has a lot of new music on vinyl. This is the place to visit in Indianapolis if you're looking for any kind of new music. They are on top of it. In fact, I subscribe to their weekly newsletter just to keep abreast of the new music that drops every week. Luna Music keeps me young and able to relate to my children, who have astounding musical taste for their age. Luna skews toward records, but they also have a smaller selection of used CDs, as well as a collection of used cassette tapes that are smaller still. You can also find zines, local artwork, greeting cards, record players and other fun things. The people who work here are super friendly and not at all snobby. There are no Jack-Black-from-High-Fidelity people here!

Indy CD and Vinyl is like the old-school record stores I used to visit in my teens and 20s, oh so…read moremany years ago when I would actually purchase CDs and tapes. Except now, everything old is new again, and this record store actually has more records than anything else. So if you are a record collector, this is your place. They have new and used records, as well as quite a lot of CDs, cassettes, used DVDs, comic books and some records players and headphones for sale. It was my oldest son's idea to visit, because he loves record stores, and is proving to have impeccable taste in music. (He gets it from his mom.) He loves rap and hip-hop the most, and was a little disappointed that there weren't more albums by his favorite artists. I told him that I think album collecting tends to skew more toward rock and pop listeners, and people who listen to rap and hip-hop listen more digitally. That's my theory, but in any case, you should know that the hip-hop section is small. But the rock and pop section is large. This record store is a decent size, and in fact, there's a sign outside that says that they will soon be expanding. My son thought that the store was huge, but bless his ignorant heart: He didn't grow up going to the country's greatest record store, Amoeba Records in Hollywood, like I did. This is no Amoeba, but there's no place like Amoeba, and for a record store in central Indiana, Indy CD and Vinyl is really great. Two neat things about Indy CD and Vinyl: They have video games and pinball machines that you can play at the back of the store (for a couple of quarters). They also have a listening station, where you can scan the barcode of an album and listen to it before you buy it. It wasn't working when we visited, but that's cool that they offer that. No one in my household actually owns a record player, CD player or cassette player, so our visit was merely to look around and imagine the things we would buy if we had analog media players. My son did get a Tyler The Creator poster, though, so he was happy.

While indie record stores are kinda sorta experiencing a rebirth, the truth is about the only survivor for chains is FYE. Is FYE a record store? Not really. It's more of a pop culture store, a modestly sized chain that has adapted successfully to changing times even if, at times, it feels more like a flea market of pop culture fun than it does anything resembling a record store. This spot is in Castleton Square Mall. Do I go to FYE as much as I went to Camelot? Not a chance, but I do enjoy some of their pop culture items and they have a pretty groovin' used selection for music and video that I do still kind of adore. They also offer toys, collectibles, a little bit of tech, apparel, and some home furnishings (very light). If you're expecting to find that obscure indie band's latest release, give up the idea. Unless it's in used, it won't be here. Yes, they carry new stuff but it's mostly the "guaranteed to sell" items and not that band you saw in a 50-person venue. Yes, they have a backstage pass Platinum ($13.99 a month. A month. Um, no.). While some reviews report being charged for it despite saying no, I've had zero issues with inappropriate charges. There's a $25 a year Backstage VIP that is more reasonable, but I can't think of anything in this store that would cause me to pay for VIP status. In terms of access, this is a mall. This means that there's plenty of accessible parking. The front entrance has automated doors, while alternate entrances have traditional doorways. The mall itself is solid with access, though primary accessible bathrooms are toward the food court. The store itself has wide aisles and good room to move around. If you're one of those people who prefers to shop without being bothered, that's pretty easy to do here. If you want help, you can get it (sometimes with a little effort). You've got to respect FYE's ability to adapt to the changing times. If you're into pop culture - anime, Funko, games, etc., - then it may be worth a visit to check this out for mostly mainstream items. They've got pretty good prices and I'm still pretty high on their used music and videos, though they have shrunk their collections. For the most part, FYE just makes me miss Camelot and the good old days.

I love the staff and the selection of books and vinyl here! They have classics, vintage books and…read morenewer titles too! And for vinyl they've got local artists, popular music and old vintage stuff as well! They also have a cool corner with art in the back and in the first room they have a bunch of cool art in drawers. They allow local artists to each have a drawer for their work and I just think that's SO cool!! They're queer friendly and definitely feel like a safe place! At one time had a donation box for menstrual products but someone destroyed it and I'm not sure if it's still there but they're just a great small business in Irvington that really adds so much to our community!
