In the meantime, his players held and organized practice on the same day. NOTE: this coach has a high round draft pick and several committed D1 players on his team. They certainly needed a commitment from their coach. If 1 of his players missed practice to attend the Cubs game, there would be severe consequences. Do as I say not as I do! So much for being a "role model". Buyer beware with the Mt. Carmel baseball program.

It was nice to meet the others in the group who were guided by Jon Aaron. Jon is also a certified teacher in mindfulness-based stress reduction. So relaxing to end the day with this experience. Loved our discussion about letting go of the things that we cannot control and finding joy in the wonders of everyday experiences. (Thanks also for the tips about the roller coasters at Six Flags Great America--another type of letting go.) The Bond Chapel is so charming. When we were married there years ago it still had massive wooden church benches. Now that it's often used as a performance space it has comfortable separate (moveable) chairs for seating. The new modern chairs are definitely better for sitting, but do seem a little out of place in the otherwise authentic gothic style building.

Recent improvements to the library, cafeteria, weight room, and Gymnasium building are just the start. Enrollment is increased by 30% this year--just a sign of the renaissance of the school. AP subjects include English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition, US History, and Biology. Honors courses are offered in most subject areas. Class sizes are small (generally fewer than 18 students/class) with opportunities for 1:1 tutoring and other support services with classroom teachers and support staff. Charity and charism are part and parcel of the school's mission and philosophy. As such, students give of themselves through many different outreach opportunities such as our monthly food drives, COVID-19 testing and vaccination days, mental health support and awareness community events, and Ecology/environmental outreach at Big Marsh Park and other nearby wetlands. Students are warm and welcoming to each other. It is a supportive, loving environment for learning. Sports have always been a keystone activity. Recent options include Soccer, Basketball, Track, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, and Cheer & Dance. Activities offered include Photography Club, Anime Club, Gaming Club, Students in Action (Multiplying Good), Weightlifting and Ecology Club. Occasional grant funded programs provide even more opportunities such as a Build-a-Bike class.
