I'm confused.... Nothing but positive reviews on this site. As of 4/10/2026 the head baseball coach cancelled practice to attend the Cubs game. In the meantime, his players held and organized practice on the same day. NOTE: this coach has a high round draft pick and several committed D1 players on his team. They certainly needed a commitment from their coach. If 1 of his players missed practice to attend the Cubs game, there would be severe consequences. Do as I say not as I do! So much for being a "role model". Buyer beware with the Mt. Carmel baseball program. read more

Great School. This school has amazing teachers and the athletics are amazing. Everyone I know has made a lot of new friends here and have made a real brother hood with everyone in the school. read more

Mount Carmel is all about athletics. The teachers are athletic coaches first, teachers second. Many times the entire test for a class could be found on-line, as well as the "teaching" material. At every parent/teacher evening, 1/2 the teachers were absent because they were coaching. Kids are taught some outdates beliefs, e.g., ADHD is a mental illness, if a boy is masturbating he is doing so to the image of a woman who died of a drug overdose and who funded her habit with pornography. The discipline is based upon escalating punishments, e.g., from fines to J.U.D.s "judgment under God" which is weekend detention. Boys are not taught how to resolve issues through discussion or through meditation. If your son is athletic, competitive, can tolerate a high volume of noise in the classroom because classroom management is less important than keeping athletes happy, Mt. Carmel may be the right place. It is highly regarded as a school from which potential college athletics are recruited. read more

As we come to the end of my sons 4 years at Mount Carmel, I have to say this was the perfect school for him. First and foremost, the brotherhood among his class is unmatched. The school was able to meet him at his academic level (average); there are 3 academic tiers. Most of the teachers are vested in the students academic achievements and seeing them excel. My son participated in sports all 4 years which allowed him to build a broader community of friends outside of the classroom and across academic levels. The diversity is probably the highest among catholic schools in the Chicagoland area which was important for me as a parent. No school is perfect but MC was perfect for my son. I also met a phenomenal group of parents. College counseling seems to be improving. read more

Mount Carmel has provided my son with an exceptional education with teachers, administrators and staff who understand the needs of young men. In addition to educating our sons, they teach skills to positively impact their future and support their continued development. The honors and elective courses are abundant plus various extra-curricular opportunities! Although the staff hold the young men to high academic standards they also understand the best instructional practices to utilize for effective male learning. As a mom of 2 current Mount Carmel students (a Junior and a Freshman), I am over-the-moon about what MC is doing for them as students and young men. I find the academics rigorous but not overwhelmingly so. They have learned to balance their honors and AP academics with their chosen extracurriculars to create a high school experience that is just right for them. I wholeheartedly disagree that MC is all about athletics. While widely known for athletics, their excellence reaches far beyond that. Neither one of my sons played any sport in grammar school and there was still a place for them at Mount Carmel. The school encourages brotherhood and getting involved in the school community as a way to develop well-rounded young men. They also provide an environment that is supportive enough to develop confidence in their students where they feel comfortable to try activities that they never thought about trying before. The life lessons and friendships that my sons are gaining from athletics, theater, choir, band, scholastic bowl, model UN, mock trial, Latin Club, etc., are invaluable. I can't thank Mount Carmel enough for helping them stand taller and inspiring them to set the world on fire. Do not go to mount carmel if you want a good education teachers here do not teach all they care about is sports and they do not prepare you well enough for final exams and when they do the study guide they give you has nothing to do with the final. The teachers do not respond to emails when I was a student at mc I sent multiple emails to teachers and they did not ever give me a response. The math I had last year when I graduated from there never showed up and expected us to know what we were doing and gave us a 30 question packet due by the next day. According to a friend that I know who goes their told me that There is currently 350 out of 630 students failing and they blame the students and they do not look at the teachers and see if they are the problem they put all the blame on the students and they do not care if they can teach or not they just say we're making excuses when people speak up and say the teachers can't teach. Overall this is a sports school not a place where you can receive a good education. read more

I think the preferred spelling is "Mount" Carmel, but it's no matter, because it's a great school. It can be difficult to play sports there, as so many kids are exceptional athletes, but that might be a challenge you are looking for. I think the school's academics are overlooked. Academically, I have always thought that MC was an excellent school; some of the teachers I had at MC were geniuses, both in their teaching area and their understanding of teaching. read more
