I was getting married and we totally planned for an open bar. So my hair stylist recommended i go to this spot to stock up the bar. So, with a shopping list on hand I went and I shopped. It was my first time here so I didn't really know what to expect. I was thoroughly surprised at how massive the store was. Their selection is definitely impressive. There are aisles and aisles and aisles and aisles of booze everywhere. Mixers and other drinks as well if you fancy that too. As I was shopping, their employees were definitely happy to help. They definitely know how to make a customer feel welcome. Almost always visually available and delighted to point me in the right direction. I came out with half gallons of liqour, boxes of wines and ordered my full keg of beer. Yep,, I now dub this spot as the One Stop Shop for all your boozy needs. My experience was totally on point. One of my coworkers lives Downriver and suggested I check Discount Drinks for craft beer. I was familiar with them as a kid but hadn't visited in at least 15 years, and certainly not since I began imbibing a few years ago. Talk about a huge place! I was in awe with aisle after aisle of beer. What they lack in single bottle selection they make up for in variety of six packs. There's even a section dedicated to non-alcoholic beers, many of which I've never seen in stores before. All brews are organized by style, and should you need help finding anything, there are plenty of outgoing employees to ask. I was quite impressed with their selection of hard cider. They dedicate an entire aisle to it. Most were familiar to me but there were some newbies, and all at great prices. I'd say their prices average a dollar less than Merchant's in Dearborn. You know in Beauty and the Beast when Belle discovers Beast's huge library with the rolling ladder? That's how I felt when I feasted my eyes upon the liquor section behind the counter. It seems they've got everything you could ever need for a party, whether it's a few people or a wedding. It appeared everything was at state minimum, too. I don't drink much wine, but noticed a large room in the back filled with case after case of wine bottles. Winos, rejoice! My only suggestion for the staff is to ensure everything is priced. I came across many 750ml bottles of beer without tags. Since they tend to be pricey, I like to know what I'm in for before heading to the register. Up until recently, I would have given this place 4 or 5 stars, depending on the staff working. But, they have raised the price of a case of Faygo from $9.99 to $14.99. I understand inflation and I understand cost and needing to make a profit. But a 50% price hike? You my friends are out of your damn mind. No thanks. I love trying new drinks so the variety offered in every category (beer, wine, liquor) is a huge plus. We're not usually in this area, but on our way home from getting some ice cream at Stroh's, Allison suggested we stop in since she's heard good things about the place. The beer selection is huge! Great variety of your typical crafts, plus a bunch of stuff that's harder to come by. Their hard cider and non-alcoholic beer sections were surprisingly well stocked too. Liquor select was equally impressive, and spanned a wall and a half. There looked to be a lot of wine options too, but I tend to stick to my Winking Owl from Aldi ($2.88). Prices seemed pretty low across the board. I noticed at least a handful of six packs that were a couple dollars cheaper than average. Employees were all very personable and willing to help. A couple small things that kept it from five stars: * I only noticed a very small rack of singles/byo sixer, and the choices were super limited. * We spotted a handful of six packs and bombers without price tags. What you see when you walk in is.......... Beer, Wine, Spirits, Galore! They have the largest selection of beer I've seen in a very, very long time. I don't drink beer but everyone that has been there with me (or without me) goes on and on about the beer selection. And from what I heard, they rotate the beer selection every few months. So, they always have something new and different to try. They also have a huge selection of wine. And as someone stated, they will order wine for you if needed. Plus, they have vintage wines and novelty bottles of wine (i.e. collector bottles of Marlyn Monroe, Giant Elvis bottles, etc.). Definitely a great variety to find a bottle for yourself or to find a bottle to give as a gift. On another wine note, we had a case of different wines at my house that we acquired through a trade somehow and some bottles appeared to be older. While stopping into Discount Drinks, we told the guy at the counter about the acquired case of wine and he offered to appraise the bottles for us.Yes, they have an appraisal service! How random?! But cool nonetheless. On to the party tip.....they have kegs. They have several choices of beer and the price was fairly reasonable. The guys there will help you load it in your car and even unload it when you drop it off. They also didn't hassle me when I didn't return my keg until the next week. All in all; the staff is really helpful, the prices are reasonable (average), and with so many options you just can't go wrong. read more

I am a bit of a wino, and I definitely think that this place has one of the best wine selections downriver! One great thing about them also is that they have a "wine bag." It's a reuseable bag that holds four bottles of wine and you buy it for about 4 bucks. Every time you bring it in and fill it up, you get 10% off the bottles in it! It pays for itself the first time you use it (unless you are cheap and drink $4 bottles of wine) :) My all-time favorite wine that they carry that I have not been able to find anywhere else is Can-Blau. I also recently picked up the BombShell Red, which was awesome! They sell all kinds of drinks in bulk, too. If you have a big enough order, they will even deliver it for you. I had a party at work last year for 800 people and had no issues just going there and buying 1,000 cans of pop. They have a lot to pick from. We also had a party last week which they delivered for. My first and usually only choice for beer/liquor/wine downriver. They have great price, tons of interesting kinds of beer(my choice of drink) and wine(my wife loves wine) I seriously can spend half an hour just looking for a new beer to try. Everything from Framboise to double stout to tripel to Trappist. Staff is very helpful especially for pairing wine with whatever you are making for dinner. Kegs are good priced too. Whenever I come home, I stop here and spend way too much money. The selection is incredible and I don't go anywhere else. I wish I could pick them up and move them to Kansas, because I've yet to find a liquor store that compares to the selection they have. It's a beer lovers dream. So I should probably preface my review with this - I'm not really a beer drinker, there are a few brews I like and generally I just drink liquor. That being said, this place always has something I like and is well stocked. My husband has been on a kick lately of trying all different kinds of beer so we end up here some weekends looking for something new. They offer imports, domestics, and really domestic local beers which is awesome because I love buying Michigan products and think Michigan has some of the best microbreweries around. Remember though, your local supermarket most likely will not take your returnables from here back if you got something specialty but they offer returns for your deposit here so it gives you a reason to come back and try something new. I'll miss this place when we move to Ann Arbor in the fall. read more

This is a solid beer store. They have non-beer items but where they really shine is a diverse beer selection. I had been recommended an obscure organic lambic and they had it! They also carry your staples. If I'm in Frankenmuth, I might stop by The Lager Mill to buy a case of new beers to try... but if I'm in town, I'd run out to Discount Drinks. all I can say is WOW, for downriver this place is a gem, they have everything, and if they don't they will order it and actually call you with details! I love quality beer, but can't have the alcohol. I was going to a small place by my house but they had a short selection of NA beer and I had to ask them to order everytime and was kind of a hassle. I decided to stop in DD and see what they had available. Not only did they have my Erdinger, they had two six packs. I bought those and asked if they would order me a case. A few days later they actually called me to say my case was in and now everytime I go in they have another case ready with case discounts. Also the NA rack is loaded with the standard NA beer available anywhere, but also have a great selection of craft brewed NA beers that are very tasty. We are regulars and they also sometimes mention new products they carry while we're there and knowing our preferences. Also, I'm not sure if they still do but they used to host wine tastings and beer tastings every so often. I was one of the few people that continued to go there through all the construction. About a month ago right after using my debit card it was hacked into. The bank said it was probably a local merchant who printed a double receipt and hacked it that way. Drinks was the only place I had used my card and weird enough everytime I go in the same female cashier who cashed me out leaves the register to go do something else and has someone else ring my stuff up.
