Bright modern and airy reception. Friendly staff and a clear signage system. She was in a double room and but seperate Tv with a headphone system. It's a bit like the time I saw Paul McGrath in the gym and jumped on a treadmill just so that I could say that, technically, I've trained with Paul McGrath. It's a fantastic, modern building with modern equipment to match. I've had various scans here over the past year for things I didn't even know they could scan. I'm talking electrodes here people. The cafeteria seems nice but I don't think I've had anything more substantial than a bun and a cup of tea. It's certainly very colourful, I'll give them that. Access is easy, the bus from Eyre Square stops right in front of it. And for people like me who tend to fall asleep, the bus stops not a million miles behind it too.

The hospital…read moreis extremely clean and well kept, one of the best private hospitals I've ever been to, and an exact replica of the Hermitage in Dublin. The hospital itself is architecturally beautiful with a grand piano, Japanese garden, Harry Potter-esque chess set in the garden, carpeted halls for the consultants suites etc. They have also built a new two story car park which is very handy as it was so difficult to find spaces before. Buses leave to and from the hospital to the city centre and Newcastle every hour from just outside the entrance, and inside they have an ATM, chapel, pharmacy, newsagent and a post box. I have the physiotherapy services a few times for my knee injury and another issue with my elbow and found them excellent, very knowledgable and professional. They also have Shockwave therapy for tendonitis and plantar fasciitis which I found quite effective albeit sore. All the doctors I've seen here were excellent and gave a proper examination instead of rushing though like what I find in public places. I usually get an appointment straight away via my dad, or otherwise within a week or two. However, different consultants have different wait times, but it's usually no more than a week or two in general. Clinic waiting times also vary, I've waited 30 mins for one consultant and over an hour of another. Earlier in the morning the less you have to wait as there's less people and risk of delays in front of you. The MRI services are another thing which I've used a number of times, and it's all very efficient and on time. I never waited more than 5 mins from my appointment time, and VHI covers MRI as well. The Emergency department is only open from 10am to 6pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends and holidays, so if it's the night you would have to go to UCH I'd say. As a student on the wards, I must say it's quite luxurious and almost like a hotel! Patient's get a mini TV and radio attached to their beds which is something you would never get in a public hospital. Its a lot quieter and the wards are not overrun by students. The food in the cafeteria is, like all hospitals in my opinion, not great. I can never understand why hospitals encourage healthy eating yet serve mostly unhealthy things. The salads and sandwiches are pretty standard, as in caesar salad and a deli bar but the main courses dishes are all quite greasy and not exactly "heart friendly". A lot of meaty and greasy stuff, but they do have a hit and miss salad bar. Overall: Good quality care and you indeed get what you pay for Quality of care: 5/5 Facilities: 5/5 Price: Exorbitantly expensive unless you have full health insurance. But be prepared to pay consultation fees upfront and claim later, which vary between and consultants but are around €150 for a regular consultation and cheaper at follow ups. Physio is €60, and A&E is €150. Food: 2/5 Access: 3/4- a pain to get to unless you drive as the buses are very infrequent.

My mother was treated dreadfully in this hospital. It's fine…read morefor small procedures ir minor illness but she got passed from doctor to doctor,no answers..left for a week in the basement wards of hospital with people who had knee replacements etc and she was so so ill should have been somewhere comfortable with a bathroom nearby. We were told she wouldn't live longer than 2 weeks despite being told she was so healthy appart form the "treatable"illness she had after doing 6 weeks in there. We wanted to fulfill her wishes and bring her home to die..The galway clinic were to organise a hospital bed and oxygen for home and ordered from the wrong company that no longer worked with them so wasted 2 days on us.We were looking on donedeal for a bed because somehow private hospital couldn't seem to organise with the public system. We ordered an ambulance ourselves privately for mam as they wouldn't do that either. It was a horrendous experience and I would not out my worst enemy in there. The one star is for the few nice staff we did meet who know how messed up the place is..its just a buisness.

I required a hysterectomy and he denied me an operation and laughed at me and asked "did I realise that is major surgery", that is precisely what was required four years later. When I asked Dr. A. Flavin what he thought of a Gynaecologist at the Galway Clinic he said he could not recommend him because he did not know his work. If a doctor does not know Consultants in the area work, have you ever heard of Cross Border Healthcare Directive. I pay 1,600 subscriptions for Laya Healthcare annually and I would like to know how they would find a Consultant in Spain or France or some other European Country when they do not know the Consultants in Galway? An SHO on Prof. Morrison's team advised me to stay in this country and have the procedure here rather than returning to London (I was home on holiday for a month). When a woman is considered self employed how does she run a home, car, pay a mortgage and many of the other things women happen to do in this country. Prof. Morrison asked me "if I worked outside the home". I don't what home he came from but he certainly did not act in my best interests and I am suing him. He should be struck off, is my opinion given my experience of him. I could not give him a rating. He would not meet with me to discuss the matter, he has avoided my correspondence and he has not signed off on a sick form which I got to him and he would not confirm or deny he had received it on three separate occasions. That is the quality of the "Professionals" in the Gynaecology Department in UCHG I would prefer to have my procedure in London, Spain, France or some other country and charge it back to the HSE. If Ireland can't get basic health care right, who would want to be a citizen? Having worked in the USA and the UK in health care I have never experienced anything like it and hope never to have to be subjected to it again. Regards. Mary King

The wind was a howling, the rain was driving, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out which of the dozen odd buildings I was supposed to be in. Isn't that how most horror films start? Access is tricky, even with the bus this hospital has a very long driveway, so take the car. The Caf? Maybe it has one, I honestly couldn't tell you. The complex is so intimidatingly large that you'd have a hard time finding anything.

I know this is weirdly specific, but I forgot to pack my Biofreeze and my back was out after…read morelifting heavy suitcases soooo I sought out a health store. Their prices were quite high but they did carry Biofreeze...which I needed that very moment. Phew. Staff members were helpful with other requests, and I'd say Evergreen is a nice alternative to a traditional drug store. It's also right in the center of the Latin Quarter in Galway, which didn't hurt matters!

Worst emergency room experience ever. Half the staff was rude and the other half were so distracted…read more(by their coworkers) that they neglected the patients who were in excruciating pain and trying to be nonverbal. Making lame excuses for me not accompany my partner while she waited for care. People smoking cigarettes at every entrance right next to the sign that says no smoking. Maybe it is because I'm used to a different level of health care? First and last trip to Ireland if this is what their health care system is like.
