I've been attending this church for several months and I can truly say this is a great church for the entire family. They have a great mission: To lead people to love God and love people. And they do a great job at that. He is a good speaker and keeps it real when he teaches the word of God. He's very transparent in using himself and his family in examples where he's not afraid to admit when he made a mistake. http://discoverychurch.com/ It took me some time to find a church that I felt comfortable with, a place where I could go to worship and study God's word amongst good unpretentious people that didn't push anything down your throat or seem over the top. My niece recommended this church because she had heard the pastor preach as a guest speaker at her church in Porter Ranch, she said that the pastor was young and inspiring and that he had a way of conveying Gods word so that we could apply it to our lives in modern times. Well I went and listened, she was right, Pastor Todd Clark is a very captivating man, he's so passionate about Bible based teaching and preaching, I really recommend one of his services to anyone, from any culture, age group, religion, etc. When I began going to this church on Sundays it was about three years ago and the actual church hadn't even been built. We would meet in a movie theater and from there a high school gymnasium, and finally the big day came when our church had been built and was ready for the first service in our newly built church, that was a very happy day for all of us. Our church has grown so much and offers so much to anyone interested, here are some really great things that are available: 1. All of the services are taped and free to watch on the website, please check one out, you can get a feel for the church without even leaving your seat! This is particularly useful to people that are ill and can't make it out of the house. 2. All of the services are available to listen to on your i-pod free(Podcasts) 3. If you have children: Enormous amounts of time, love, and energy have been poured into "Discovery Kids" the only way that I can describe this amazing place is that it looks like a giant NICKELODEON set where singers, costumed actors and dancers all come together every Sunday to put on the most amazing show for children to participate in and enjoy. The children run in so excited, they sing, they laugh they have a blast, it's a huge thing, the excitement in these little ones to go to church is so priceless. Take your kids, sit back in the audience and watch what happens, it's so worth it. 4. Outstanding Youth groups available for the older children. 5. Life groups available for anyone. 6. There is a Saturday service and 2 different Sunday services to accommodate the early risers and the late sleepers. 7. An excellent band that really knows how to rock even at 9 in the morning (it gets you going) 8. Free Starbuck's coffee and donuts if perhaps the band is was not enough to get you going. Two years ago, I joined DC and it has changed my life in so many positive ways, beyond what I could have ever hoped for. I started out by joining in on short term groups and was welcomed with open arms by friendly and kind-hearted people. My faith in God was restored after joining DC. I can't even begin to describe how thankful I am for this church and wonderful community. Nothing they preach is forced or one-sided. They share verses and examples from the Bible and find ways to apply it to current times and every day life. I am so thankful for the awesome and amazing people I have met and friendships I have formed. Most importantly, there are pastors and staff who have listened attentively to me and helped me with my spiritual growth and continued walk with God. I highly recommend giving DC a chance. I have attended different churches my entire life (50 yrs). From the rigid, rule bound church to the "spirit filled" congregation. Some I have stayed for years while other encounters were far shorter lived. After decades of searching I never found an authentic community I could call home...until i committed to the community at Discovery about three years ago. You will not find an ideology being pushed here, this church is made up of individuals both in leadership and in the larger community that have their hearts and minds set on the heartbeat of God. That rhythm seems to guide the movement of the church from the top down, not coming from lofty perches but from authentic hearts that know we are ALL created in the image of God. This church is genuinely a place you can belong before you believe. Where there is an invitation of the heart, not pressure to conform. These people walk with individuals as God works in each life from the inside-out, understanding that Gods fingerprint is on every heart and outside pressure to change will only deform an individuals soul. This church is home for me. My wife and I tried this church with an open mind and have been here for 3 years. My child love 252 st. And she asks to go every week. The staff is so inviting and has invited us into the church. Starting Point is a good program to ask questions and learn more about God. We have joined a community group that has been like family. We serve our city and have a great opportunity to serve Simi. We drive from Camarillo just to go to this church. We're very happy! read more

My wife and I have started visiting Discovery Church after a recommendation from a friend. Again - Although it's kinda weird "rating" a church on Yelp, if the information helps others find this place or choose the right church for their needs, then I hope it's useful... First and foremost, the teaching is sound, Biblical, truthful and right on the money. Very solid sermons which are excellent. Caleb is one of my favorite preachers. His teaching style sermons are simple to understand and he connects with the audience on a very down-to-earth level. The people are likewise, extremely friendly, helpful and outgoing. We were immediately welcomed and felt at home right away. They now have two worship halls, so there's always plenty of room for everyone. Even though the East Auditorium uses a projected image and drop-down screen, it's extremely well set up so that you honestly don't notice. The presentation system is really that good! The parking at their large industrial facility isn't bad, considering they have several services to choose from and lots of street parking to use. However the compact spots are really too small, even if you are driving a true compact car. They have a very active and well-organized small-group program in most areas in Simi, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and the Valley. We were very impressed by their outgoing nature and level of organization. While music is a very personal thing which varies a lot from person to person, this was the only sticking point with me. The band is extremely talented and perform well together - BUT - it appears more like a rock concert where one comes to be entertained than a worship service where the audience participates and comes together to lift God up. The band members are prominently positioned near the front of the stage. The songs are contemporary but obviously not familiar to many of the church members. As you look around the room, you can see that few people are singing along. In addition many of the CCM lyrics don't feature God as the first person. The computerized spotlights and smoke machine simply add more glam and glitz to the whole show than is necessary and I leave wondering what God would think about this? With a little work on the worship music, I think the service would be absolutely perfect in every way. read more

Discovery Church has been our home church for a few years now. My kids love attending their children's and teen groups, DK Live, and Summer Camps! Caleb is an amazing pastor surrounded by like minded and other great assistant pastors and staff. I have been equally pleased with all of my interactions at Discovery and have started volunteering. When you walk into Discovery you feel like you are at home. Every meeting space is inviting and the message of Leading people to Love God and Love People is inspiring. A good church. I go here when I'm visiting my parents since this is the church they attend (they love it). They have a great Men's Bible Study that meets on Saturday at 7am. If you are a guy and looking to meet other men (even if you are an unbeliever and just searching for answers), go to this group and meet other godly men. read more

We went to this church for two years straight. We tried very hard to become more than just the Sunday routine. We tried to attend growth classes but they were separated by age or gender which made it impossible for my spouse and I to attend the same one.l. The sermons went from quarterly asking for large donations to weekly so they could grow in this way or that. The other wing they wanted so badly was a completely ridiculous waste of money. They had their hand out for money and we happily gave but when we directly sought counsel about a personal matter, requests were ignored by Matt and Caleb. After two years they didn't even know our name, for a church I was trying so hard to be a part of, my only value was my checkbook. Perhaps if a new pastor rolls in, I will try again but this is why church has a bad feeling for so many, discovery always preached how different they were but they were not so different after all. read more

I found my home with Discovery Church. I am 56 years old and never attended church regularly. I really felt something was missing in my life. I started attending Discovery in September 2018 and have never looked back. I signed up for a Rooted group and felt such a connection. These are people I would never have met otherwise and we have such a deep connection. I mentioned to my Rooted family that I wanted to serve and wanted to work with kids. There was a need with the 252 Street Sunday School program. I started serving earlier this year and LOVE it so much. What an amazing program. Stefan...you ROCK! Discovery Church was the place I called home for many many years. However, it's changed so incredibly much. Now, the sermons are more motivational instead of biblical. The pastor is a very nice person, however I don't think he prepares for his sermons well enough for when he speaks on Sundays. He looks at his notes a little too much and gets a little off topic. I saw a video that said his wife writes his sermons, I'm not sure if that was a joke or not. You get to know Jesus better by reading the Bible so DC needs to teach more biblical sermons. Not one or two verses from different chapters to summarize. I'm giving 2 stars because the worship at the beginning is on point. Sarah Lynn is powerful, as well as the other singers. They are very passionate which is how the pastor should come across as well. Also, Pastor Rusty is good but I don't go to church to watch the sermon through a video screen, I could do that at home. read more
