Our Conejo youth meet on Sunday mornings and Monday nights. They leave on most Sundays after the worship music for a discussion outside or in the youth room on campus. I wrote about Calvary Community Church earlier this week, and gave it a 5.0 star in praise of what & how they exhibit a service, but it's HUGE and you can get lost pretty easily. If you are looking for something more intimate/smaller, you will feel very welcomed, get great teaching by Pastor Kirk, followed with fantastic snacks! One thing a small church can do that a large cannot -- you are able to get immediately involved and make a BIG difference. This is that kind of church. As of May, they moved to the Thousand Oaks Seventh-day Adventist Church (who hold church on Saturday's freeing this up) located on Gainsborough Road. Check them out. read more

Every Sunday he enlightens and inspires us with scripture, translating it into today's mirror with amazing honesty and love. The congregation is very friendly, you really feel like you are part of a family and the professional live band and selection of music is great. *keep in mind that this church shares the building with another church. God has always either given me a "check", or given me peace about choosing the church I should become regularly involved with. When I visited Conejo in 2014, it was clearly peace and warmth that Holy Spirit gave me about being there. I also believe that God is leading Pastor Kirk, and his messages are always perfectly in line with God's Word, and solidly based in it. I love how Kirk uses examples from his life, and finds other great stories to illustrate his teachings. It's obvious that Kirk loves The Lord, and people. The worship team are great, and God always makes His presence felt through them, their music and singing, even when we have an alternate team. This small warm church sits on a beautiful oasis of trees and paths that are a breath of fresh air just by themselves. Then you go inside and the people are so kind and inviting. The music really helps to bring the chaos of our lives down to focusing in on why we're there. Kirk is an amazingly relevant pastor who gives the greatest analogies each week to help us get the point of the message. He really brings it home every single week. He's so real and doesn't do the big flowery language normally associated with pastors. He gets us to see ways we can get peace with God even though the world is going crazy. You really should try this church out. It's small which allows people to actually know each other and care about each other. It's the real deal. Try it! read more

Guitar driven services are often so tiresome. This trend has been going on for 15 years or so, where the main instrument is a miked acoustic or acoustic-electric guitar. Meh I'm over that and so are tons of others. It tends to be monotonous. Repeating the same chorus over and over at a Largo tempo feels more like hypnotism than praise. I'm sorry, the music sucks... Unless you like a dirge. To me it doesn't feel like soulful, deep, meaningful praise. It feels like torture. Great preaching though. Get there 20 minutes late and leave 10 minutes early and it's all good. BTW, I regularly attended this church before Kirk became the preacher; when Rex was preaching. Who knows, maybe Billy (the music dirge guy) has cleaned up his act. Kirk does come from a background of good contemporary music in church. So, I guess you could give it a shot and see if it's gotten any better. If it has, please do post. :-) read more

Nightmare on Gainsborough street. Imagine buying your first house and you save and you save only to be woken up every Saturday and Sunday by brain-piercing voice coming through the loud speaker of the "preacher or whatever you call this guy" singing about Jesus. Saturday he is outside with a microphone that carries throughout the whole street starting between 9am-10am. Sundays sometimes 8 am. Sundays you get the full sermon. It's like entering one of the layers of hell. For a religious institution they need to not hold services on a loud speaker for the 5 people who attend. Now that would be an act of charity. So why does Freddy Kruger need to be on a loud speaker torturing the street when there is not even any parishioners. It's something we will never know. Now I don't own a house here but am simply a renter but should still be allowed to have some piece of quiet without this guys religious sermons every weekend. read more

In all my life i have never felt so at home, so embraced and so close to god. Conejo is truly a sanctuary for those looking for a place to worship and explore the connection with the holy spirit amongst friends without feeling pressured or judged. My experiences with religion have been " weighted" at best and after finding Conejo I feel the weight has been lifted. My family and I look forward to the time we spend with our Conejo family and have grown closer through becoming active in helping the community through the many events the church provides that allow us to help give back to all in need. Kirk is an amazing pastor , full of inspiring energy,knowledge,and real life hands on inspiration that doesn't just speak to you... He inspires you to act.. And action is what we all need. Conejo Church is so radical that Jesus Himself goes there! I'm not kidding. You feel God's presence all over the place there! Pastor Kirk is one brother who gets it! He understands that there is only one church, but you could never fit us all into one building or even a football field. He gets that the point of our existence is to bring this world an encounter with the Father! We are not here to build our own Kingdom, but to expand His! It's about God's Love being radically displayed through laid down lovers - people who Love Jesus and have laid down their lives to be ruined for anything but connecting more people with God's heart! Anyone who truly understands church knows that the pastor is the actual worship leader. He is listening to and watching what the Holy Spirit is saying and doing and is directing His worship leader to follow. That being said, the worship there is off the charts! It's not cheesy and over-rehearsed, it is spontaneous and powerful! Billy and the worship team are literally expressing the rhythm of God's heart and leading the congregation into the very throne room of God! Listen, there are plenty of people with different preferences and they are looking for a whole list of particulars, which is probably why there are so many types of church and worship services. However, I would like to remind you that the point of church was never to be entertained as though you were going to a movie or to the opera. The point of church is for you to bring something to add to the gathering of the saints! No, I'm not talking about tithing! We all know we are supposed to tithe. It's much more than that. If you are a member of Conejo Church, you are experiencing miracles in your personal life and in your interactions with the world during the week! Come Sunday you can't wait to get to church to share the testimony of what God has been doing in your life! And also to hear the testimony of others and to hear a good word from Pastor and to worship and pray and invite God's presence to flood the place! That's Church! Come by and check it out! Wow...a true Christian church with followers of Jesus. Pastor Rex stood in today for the Pastor Kirk and reinforced Jesus in me! What more can one ask for? The band was led by a very spirit-filled minister of the Word...Billy. The atmosphere was super comfortable and sincere. This would be a wonderful home for any new/old Young Lifers who might be wandering out there in the desert with out a compass. read more
