I'm a bit of a fusspot about my skin, so I was a little apprehensive. First things first, this salon is a bit tricky to find - it's under the arches but it's very easy to walk straight past it (I did, countless times). You'll find it on the left if you're walking towards the radisson blu hotel on argyle street. It's right under the arches of Glasgow Central station. It does say beauty in the window but it's easily missed because many of the shops are painted in the same green. When you get in you'll be greeted by friendly faces and lots of welcoming. You'll be made to feel right at home. I must admit I felt a little nervous because it's not the best looking salon I've seen. It could do with a little tidy up and it's certainly not a haven of peace, you'll hear trains running over the top of you (it's under the train bridge) and it's noisy with hairdressing if you're in one of the treatment rooms. So why the five stars. Margaret (?) was my therapist and she was lovely. We did a microdermabrasion and she did a fantastic job. A really thorough cleanse, lovely products and a pain free process (microdermabrasion can leave you red faced if the therapist goes too far with it!) The liquorice mask reminded me of many a night drinking sambuca (urgh) but it was worth it. It tingles a bit (which scared me) but don't be scared, it'll settle down and it was worth it! I came out of the salon glowing, and a few hours later, my skin had never looked better. Normally when I get it done in London, it takes a few days to show the effects. Not so here. I got so many comments on my skin that evening and actually it has felt great ever since. Even better, it's an absolute steal (compared to what I pay in London, at least). If I'm back in town, I'll be headed here.

A bikini wax can set you back up to £30 in Glasgow and so you are faced with the predicament of compromise- how cheap do you go without sacrificing hygiene, professionalism and your dignity? After recommendations from friends, I opted for Beauty In The City which seemed to offer good value for money. A small salon convieniently located on Argyle Street, hidden beneath the 'Heilenman's Umbrella' (that's Central Station bridge to the non-locals) it specialises in waxing, massage and nail care. I decided to go for the Brazilian which at £17 was more risky than a 'Playboy' but less intimidating than the 'Hollywood'. The salon seemed clean and well organised and I was pleased at how quickly I was seen. I was in and out in 20minutes and despite being the last appointment of the day, I didn't feel rushed. Beauty in The City is more Glasgow glam that city chic with hot pink walls and over-tanned members of staff to match. However, it benefits from another Glaswegian trait- incredibly friendly service. Beauty treatments are given from girls who will chat like they've known you for years. My beautician immediately put me at ease when I felt apprehensive, vulnerable and exposed. She was clear about exactly what she was going to do and made the whole process as pleasant as possible. A bikini wax is not for the faint-hearted however my discretion was considered throughout and I was made to feel comfortable. I'll definitely be going back.

There was a little confusion as I hadn't specifically wanted either the 3pm or 3:20pm slot, I just booked them both for myself and my friend, however despite it making more sense for my friend to go in the first slot, they wouldn't change our times around. The room for the massage was nice, standard massage room really. Although they do have electronic beds to adjust the height, which I gather for shorter people than me (5ft 10) this would come in useful, plus it is heated. Although I did ask half way through for the heat to be turned off as I felt like I was being cooked...but that's just me and heat! The massage itself was good, she did as I asked and didn't shy away from the painful parts (no pain no gain)! A complementary facial had been included which was basic but relaxing. I advised her of my sensitive skin so she used the sensitive lotions, which still stung slightly, but I've had worse! Arriving back at reception my masseuse, Natalie, had left a postcard advising me to get more massages to help with the problem areas, which was sweet, and giving me another excuse to get more :) Based on my experiences alone I would recommend them, however my friend who was with me didn't have such a good time. She didn't have a heated bed, which was a shame since she is the heat lover, and her masseuse didn't follow her instructions and performed a relaxing massage rather than one that tackled the knots. Overall, I'd probably go back if I was in the area or couldn't get into a more local one. It's handy as it is in Silverburn, up the stairs to the left of Yo-Sushi/Debenhams, if you are there for some shopping too, and the premises is very modern and stylish. Price wise, it was £32 for half an hour of massage, with the complementary facial. It's a little on the pricer side, I guess due to it's location.

I chose the massage on the grounds that you should never miss the chance to get those tense muscles relaxed. My beautician, Lyn, was welcoming and put me at ease without being too familiar. I loved the facial and will certainly try and make it a regular treat. My skin definitely looked and felt better and the massage was amazing.

I tend to pop over for an eyebrow wax every now and again, and I always find the staff to be friendly and chatty, with cheeky Glasgow charm. At just under a fiver for an eyebrow wax, this place offers the same services as its inner city competitors, at a fraction of the price. I would recommend popping in here, even if only to have a look around and pick up a price list. A lovely little place for purse friendly pampering.

I went here with my best friend to get some waxing done. now the place itself is nice and clean and professiobally run, it was a bit hard to find and i walked past it numerous times before i realised i had to walk upto each door to see if it was on the buzzer system, as its on the top floor and its not exactly greatly visible when your standing and trying to look up. once inside the waiting room is nice and the girl doing the waxing was nice she chatted away which reduces the awkwardness that comes with it. the job itself was doen efficently and quickly and there was not a problem. my problem came at the prices. expensive in comparison to ther places its on the highest end, also i did feel that i wasn't the kind of person they were usually treating, not that it was obvious or anything but just by the standard and prices of the places and some of the treatments they offer it appears to be more of an up market place. safe to say after 3 treatments my money was gone and i went elsewhere for the same thing all be it at a much cheaper price.

This is my go-to for superb quality service when I need a little TLC after an intensive day at the office, before a special occasion or (sunny) holiday away. Beauty & Nails offers an array of treatments ranging from facials, massages, waxing, brows, lashes, tanning, manicures, and pedicures. I first went to B&N when they were running a special offer for my company. I was gearing up for a holiday, so I quickly booked an appointment. I can only really comment on the manicures and pedicures, specifically Shellac. Shellac is pretty much the 2-week manicure; this stuff lasts (unless you seriously abuse your hands and feet). The only issues with Shellac is: 1) If you get bored or are fickle, you're kind of stuck with the same colour for 2 weeks 2) If your nails grow as fast as mine, you're guaranteed to see re-growth on your nail bed within the first week, so I stick with the neutral colours so it's less obvious. Shellac is great for special occasions and when you're going on holiday because it doesn't chip... however, if it does within the first few days of having it done, the ladies at B&N are more than happy to repair it for you at no cost. The place itself is immaculate and intimate, and the service is always warm and welcoming. The ladies are gentle with your hands and feet, generally good banter, and are always professional. They are also stockists of Dermalogica products, which I'm a fan of. So when I'm in need of a quick lunchtime or after work beauty fix, B&N is certainly at the top of my list.

The girls in here are really friendly and capital radio is always playing. It's a no frills place but that's fine by me. My nails lasted 2 weeks on the coral and I've just had the red put on. If you are looking for a reasonably priced place, I would recommend here.

It's the same ole drill: strip, lie down, wax, ouch, stretch, wax, ouch, turn, wax, ouch, and you're done. Claire is wonderful banter who does a clever job of distracting you from the pain (to be honest, I'm used to it now) while doing a superb job getting every little bit off in less than 15 minutes (I guess that varies person to person... eck too much info there...). The Waxing Rooms is a clean, hygienic place for your monthly "trips to Brazil/Hollywood". Banter, no double dipping, clean and efficient job... what more could you ask for.

I had an eventful afternoon yesterday - I finally got a haircut!…read more My hair was blowing around in all directions, I looked like I'd just got back from Woodstock (1969) - it was time for a chop. And after much searching for a standby at the last minute, I stumbled upon this place. It's cosied away from the main streets in the bottom floor of a posh tenement on Bath Street and thankfully it was quiet enough to get a trim. It's a fresh, clean, sleek looking salon decorated in warm cream colours with music channels playing quietly in the background. It looks very swanky, but standby cuts are only £25 which is unbelievably reasonable for the quality of this place. It's uncluttered, and you're not hit with a shelving unit full of hair products as you walk in the door which is refreshing. But the main selling point of The Salon are the staff. The girls were so friendly, relaxed and confident with all clients and made us feel at home without being pushy. The girl cutting my hair was called Leanne and she was friendly, giving constructive advice and listening to my hair gripes while she snipped away at it. It was honestly the quickest, most relaxed hair cut I've ever had and before I knew it she'd got rid of all the damage and given me a sleek new 'do. The lovely girl working at the desk said I "looked like a new person" which isn't a lie, I love the cut! It's so much more manageable without being too drastic and looks very sophisticated. I've had loads of compliments and am really happy with it. It's probably the only salon I've been to where I've not been pushed to buy a product and the quality of service is brilliant.
