Got a great deal in the store. They have an amazing selection from Stormy Kromer's to top hats! The lady we spoke to, Suzanne, was very knowledgeable and helpful. We were looking for a summer hat for our son and we need up finding a Wiggins on sale and she gave us a little bit more off to "seal the deal." What was great as the hat was a little large for him but he will grow so she gave us some sticky foam padding to go inside the brim that makes it fit now with room to grow. It's a hat store. If you are looking for a hat, they will likely have it. Big hats, small hats, funny hats, somber hats, traditional hats, lots of winter hats ('tis the season)...and a smattering of accessories... And randomly, a fully-stocked section for home brewing of beer and wine. Hmmm, diversion indeed. Hats and home brewing, let's do it! My dad, being the local gift-giver that he is (and he is!) bought me a gift certificate to Diversions, and at first...I sort of cocked my head like a Yorkiepoo and was like "whaaaaa pa, for realz?" Then I shut my ungrateful, sometimes snobby mouth, cocked my head back right and got with the program. And, obviously had to make it to Diversions (the infamous hat store with crazy commercials I remember from childhood) before I left Northern Michigan for the winter. Finally I made it this evening before dinner downtown, and to my pleasant surprise this place is pretty cool. Legit. And my god again, if you are looking for a hate, THIS is your place. Cover that head of yours! I scored myself two knit caps (I don't always like to do my hair, good solution). One a knit newsboy and the other a knit hat/scarf combo which my boyfriend tells me makes me look like a knight crusader. I'll take it! In pale pink! Throw in a cute set of bangles, and I'm at $51 with tax. Just perfect. This is a great stop while shopping in DT TC, and a great local business. If you don't mind - packages shipped without notification, tracking or insurance - disorganized, unprofessional, and defensive customer service - a company owner that answers the phone while they are going poop then order away! Full Story - Nov 19 - bough an $17 hat and paid for shipping - total $29.38. Nov 25 - no shipping notification, no tracking number, no hat delivered. I emailed Diversions to ask about order. NO REPLY Nov 29 - still no hat delivered, called Diversions to ask. Spoke to Bev who sounded very flustered talking on and on about how things were a mess for her. (ok cool, things go like that sometimes) Bev said that she could ship the hat the next day and would call me for my credit card number to pay for shipping. I said I already paid for shipping and she insisted she needed more money. More flustered talk of how "screwed up" everything was and her system had issues. I stood my ground that I had paid for shipping already and would not pay again. She said she email me back. Nov 29 - later - Bev emailed me a tracking number that said the hat was already delivered. Nov 29 - later later - I replied by email that the package never arrived. NO REPLY NOTE Turns out that I was out of town the day the package was delivered. I did not know a package was coming. No package was at my house. IF I had known a package was coming, I could have had someone swing by to check my porch. Dec 1 - I called Diversions to discuss - Bev was flustered and couldn't look at my account - she told me she would have to call me back because she was "ON THE THRONE." Dec 1 later - Bev called back and said she couldn't help me without talking to the post office. I asked if if the package was insured and she LOST IT. She gave me a hostile lecture asking me if I knew how expensive it would be to insure packages and she blamed her age of 75 and how covid "has changed everything" and that's why she is understaffed and couldn't send a shipping notice. Honestly if she had just been reasonable on the the Dec 1 call - I would have just re-purchased the hat and taken the $ loss. I mainly wanted to discuss a way so the next shipment would for arrive safely but her temper was ... bewildering. I love supporting small business and totally get things are screwy right now. I am familiar with this store because of their goofy commercials and awesome window displays. They have a great location right next to the Opera House on Front Street in downtown TC. My mother bought me a wooden flute here, I collect small instruments, sortof. I own a tin whistle too. No piccolos though, for the love of god. Anyways, besides random gifty things, they are known for their selection of hats. In the back, there is a selection of homebrewing items as well (beer & wine, I think).
