I simply Googled divorce assistance,  and after talking  to three lawyers and having a free consultation from each. ... The first wanted 25% more than what Tim charged me. Also, he didn't seem that interested in me and to top it off, he jerked me around by canceling and trying to reschedule an appt. one hour before I was to come in. I literally was ready to leave to see him. I just told his secretary (he had his staff do his dirty work) that I felt jerked around and I would look elsewhere. The second attorney wanted several thousand dollars. Bear in mind, this is for an uncontested divorce, no children, no real assets. I told him I could not afford it, after meeting with him. He called back three times hoping I would change my mind. Strike two. The third attorney told me that she was not interested and  then also quoted me a "probable" figure.  (??) So I began looking again, found Divorce 661, filled out an online form and made a phone appt. Tim called me promptly. I like his business demeanor, he answered all my questions, and I had a good feeling just by talking with him. I sent him a check. He was right there for me, answered ALL of my emails, no matter how dumb I thought they were, and started the process for me. He even straightened out an obstinate court clerk who was not that cooperative. In essence, Tim handled everything. All I had to do was sign papers, get signatures to him, and he even helped me file for a waiver of filing fees (I have a fixed income). Within 4 months, I got my date from the court that my divorce would be effective.  (YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY!!)  If you are contemplating doing the divorce yourself let me tell you that YOU WILL BE SORRY. Hire Tim...he knows what he is doing, it will be money well spent, and will not cost you an arm and a leg. I will be a free man this year. There is no way I could have done all this divorce mumbo jumbo on my own...even after ordering a $20 book from Nolo Press on how to do your own divorce in California.....yeah right! Thank you Tim. I can't thank Tim B., the owner of SCV Legal Services enough for his expertise and guidance in the preparation of the courts documents which were necessary for me to file concerning my divorce proceedings. I was frustrated and fed up with having divorce lawyers bleed me dry with high hourly rates and exorbitant retainer fees just to have a motion filed on my behalf. After an insane amount of research and getting super close to a lawyer, super close to a legal firm, and super close to filing it all myself, I checked out Tim's company. *UPDATE* My initial experience with Tim was pretty great - good feedback and response time. I filed the first round of paperwork and it was kicked back from the court not necessarily because of Tim's work. For personal reasons I waited a couple of months to circle back with Tim and to seek advice on modifying my legal separation case to a dissolution, and now, I am not getting any response. I called his offices two weeks ago, was given an appointment time for the very next day, and never received a call for that appointment. I have since called the office 2 more times and still have not heard back. One time even being accused of never having left a voicemail with my contact information (which should be on file), when I absolutely did.
