Loved it! The studio includes props, lightings, drinks and beer! The staff (DAVE) is a super cool guy! It also includes a bathroom, separate room for makeup and wardrobe change, a large screen t.v. so it could be hooked up to the cam for instant viewing and my favorite has gotta be the random dummy with the Ray Charles cap hidden in the back. LoL It gave me a jump, and then i ended up taking a bunch of joke pics with it. And last but not least, the price is a steal! Literally! He provides so much for so little! DK3 is now under new management and having rented the studio from both owners, let me start by saying while Dave was a fantastic guy, Richard is really driven to put DK3 on the map. Sure, during the transition there was a loss of communication, but now that the doors are back open, the studio looks better than ever. Completely cleaned out and freshened up, the new DK3 is a joy to shoot in, and just as friendly and flexible as they've always been. The rates may have gone up a touch, but for what you get, it's still one of the best prices in all of San Diego. My only complaint is its proximity to Miramar Naval Air Station, which can cause problems if you're recording audio during the day. Looking forward to many more shoots at DK3 Studios. read more

Awesome place. Online booking is easy, I've used dk3 a few times now. One time, I had to cancel, and promptly received a refund for the payment. The owner (David King) is very professional and stays out of the way unless you need him. We accidentally tripped the cyclo-curve-proximity alarm several times and he cheerfully shut it off. Great sound system and also quiet if you need to shoot video with audio. He also has lots of great equipment you can use, including lights and a chromatte system for perfect keying. Very convenient, quiet location with plenty of parking. read more

I met with the owner and did the tour of the studio and I am more than impressed! The dressing room for the models is the best I have ever seen and there is room for 4 models and the help to work together. There is a top of the line music sound system to set the mood and the atmosphere is totally creatable and can be made up for whatever the job requires. Really like this place!! Dave is a free spirited but professional owner. He knows how to treat people and your business feels appreciated when you are there. I've been there several times and will be going back in the future. DK3 has tons of lighting equipment (ring flash, soft boxes, poket wizards, etc.) He has a large monitor to see the photos in detail. Also has a great sound system to jam with during your session. I'm a hobbyist photographer and booked time at dk3 studios for the first time on Sunday, January 16th, 2012. Both my model and I had a fantastic time. He sets a great mood, with cool music playing and fun lights, and all of the lights, props, and furniture he has are available for use. We ended up using two different guitars and a wicker chair, and we considered using a fold-up white leather sofa (we still might use it next time we're there), all of which were provided. Dave, the owner/manager, is a great guy, really fun to talk to, really laid back, but extremely professional. He made the whole process as smooth as silk so that all I and my model had to think about was how to make good photographs. The fact that the rates are so affordable is icing on the cake. Outstanding space including dressing room for models, sturdy tables for the laying out gear, climate control, and a bathroom. It has an infinity wall which is great for high key photography. Studio lighting, strobes and c-light stands are included, allowing you to maximize your time shooting. The layout allowed me to efficiently cycle through a shoot with four models with multiple costume changes. Richard, the owner is helpful and extremely knowledgeable and experienced with both video and still photography. A great overall experience. Overall experience was good. David King was nice. The studio was nice; however, you really had to set up a good frame or else you much get some of the things that are pushed away as a storage area in your frame. I had a little difficulty with the lighting but it all worked out in the end. David gave me a few pointers which was very helpful. I booked my session for 4 hours but finished and moved out in 3. I did lose out on an hour of paid time that is not refundable. One thing that would be nice is when I initially booked the studio session, I booked from 12:30 to 4:30. Then I had to reschedule the time block due to my makeup artist not being available. I then wanted to just have my session from 1:30 to 4:30 but I was told that once you book for a certain amount of time you cannot decrease your time. You can only move your time block to another time block or day. So keep in mind if you are unsure of how much time you will need, it's probably best to book for the least amount of time and you can always add time before you appointment day if scheduling permits. In a nutshell it's best to know exactly how much time you will require. read more
