Called DLK today, spoke with Stephanie, who was rude, disrespectful. My daughter has animals living in the walls and ceiling would like to know the name of the company they use and claiming they have sent over two previous times to "resolve" the issue. I wish I could speak with someone who actually runs DLK that could provide me with answers and so my daughter can live in her apartment without wondering what is crawling around. Based off of Stephanie's manner I assume she deals with these issues daily. Which is really sad. Maybe they could provide honest answers instead of being on the defense. And maybe they could actually call the proper company to resolve & remove animals from inside the the building walls and ceilings. What a terrible place to live and to work. read more

I would not rent with DLK again. My son signed a contract with dlk in the fall of last year and since then had decided not to live in the house he sign for, but he found someone to take over the lease. however, Dlk will not give him his security deposit back until next year. This other person signed the lease and gave their security deposit, so DLK is sitting with two security deposits for the same place. Then while talking to a guy that answered the phone at DLK when I was asking and talking about this, he rudely said he has other calls to answer. read more

If I could put 0 out of 5 stars, I would. They are a money hungry business who go about their days wondering how to mess with their tenants. In my experience with them, they don't clean up trash outside and blame tenants for that and charge you. They change passcodes into buildings while you are moving so you have to go out of your way to continue moving. They say you have 24-36 hours to move but only truly give you that 24 hour window. They require parking permits and don't give any notification when towing starts, so they tow your car before school even begins. I will NEVER recommend this company to any individual living in Whitewater, not even the homeless cats. Awful management team doesn't care as long as they get paid, the quality of life they provide their tenants is horrible at best. read more

This company is what some would say a "slumlord". I lived in one of their apartments for 8 months and the biggest issue that I had was that they have animals in the walls. I called and told them that when I moved in that there was something in the walls, it could be mice, and all they did was set up mouse traps. A month later I encountered a bat in my living room and had to get it out myself. I ended up having to get rabies shots and they said that since they did not know about the bat the cost of the shots was not their problem. I told them there was something in the walls but since I did not specify that it could be a bat, they did not bother to do their diligence and check. Another thing about this company is that they charge fees for everything. They charged a $200 fee for me to sublease. This would have been fine if they would have inspected the previous tenants' damage or cleaned but they did not. It was $200 for me to sign a piece of paper. They also have all of their pricing set up by semester, but they told me over the phone that I could pay half upfront and then pay monthly for the remainder. What they failed to mention was that I would have to pay for a parking pass if I did not pay for an entire semester up front. This company will take advantage of college students that do not know any better. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you have any other options. read more

I started as a student at whitewater just looking for housing, like everyone else. My older brother had rented/was renting from DLK and I got an apartment with them too. While my building was built in the 60's and had all of the usual hiccups that come with age, Stephanie's attitude about helping me solve them was always wonderful. AVOID AT ALL COST!!! They try to SCAM college kids out of money. Lost my keys second and they charged me $80 because they had to "switch the locks for my safety" found the keys two weeks later and they still worked. Locks were never changed. They said they would take the $80 off my rent to make up for it. They did this.....and then charged me $80 off my security deposit claiming I didn't pay rent fully! Also didn't give back my $200 security deposit and said "Let's call it even" because there was a TV satellite outside. Lastly changed the contract in the middle of the year and gave no notice! read more

RUN. This place is a joke. I find it hard to believe that this kind of monopoly on such cruddy property all over town is even legal. These people should be ashamed of themselves. Disgusting excuse for a "business". This place provides nothing to struggling students/families except for Mental Anguish and frustration. If I could give less than one star I would. This is honestly the worst rental company I have had the misfortune of dealing with. They will be friendly and courteous up until you sign with them, and then they lose any and all sympathy. The ridiculous prices for any of the outdated rooms that they offer further show how they care little for the students of Whitewater. Management is unprofessional and hardly ever available as I tried calling the property manager on Thursday afternoon, was told she was at lunch and never received a return call that day or the next. DLK did a great job handling a situation regarding a situation with my vehicle getting towed. When I went to their office to talk about the situation, everyone there was super friendly, sympathetic, and sincere. I would highly recommend using DLK for future services! read more

Incredibly difficult to work with and hard to get ahold of when tenants need to contact them. The staff is overbearingly rude and not polite when working on apartments and houses. I called to try to move in a few days early for a family emergency and was very rudely answered by the women who was working. Not at all friendly. read more

Worst Landlord/apartment services I've ever experienced. They tried to keep my money after they owed it to me for quite some time. After I got on their case about it they finally did send it but had to keep calling them. The guy (R) who answered the phone apparently lost my information so the messages never got transferred (I spoke to R several times) and the woman (S) in charge just never bothered to call me back or send my money back even though I spoke to her as well. They became very rude to me and acted like it was my fault. When they finally did say they sent it in the mail the woman (S) hung up on me before I could even say anything. AVOID THIS COMPANY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. I have been renting in Wisconsin for about 20 years, and this is far and away the worst rental company I have encountered. They continually take advantage of the fact that their renters are young students without the experience to question their unethical business practices. Here are just a few examples: - The year lease you sign is not actually a full year, which in and of itself is not terrible, but when you consider the following items, it becomes much worse. - During the two weeks before finals, they installed new floors into every unit in my building. Essentially the time that I needed quiet and minimal interruptions is when they decide to do extensive and noisy work. - When they show the unit to future renters, they give an obscene window of time for the showing. Typically, when a landlord does this, they will give you a specific date and time at which the apartment will be shown. These charlatans give a three-day window, consisting almost 8 hours each day. - Lease ends the day after my last final. Really? - Parking infractions lead to immediate towing, despite the fact that their lot is never full. - Instead of providing written notice to each apartment, they provide signs at the entrances to indicate when people will be entering the apartments. If these signs are removed by a vandal, the notification is lost. If one has been ill and not left the apartment, the intrusion will be a complete surprise. - The hallways are not cleaned on a regular basis. - The carpet is disgusting and unpadded. It is only fractionally softer than walking on uncovered concrete. - The free internet they provide barely constitutes service. The service outages are often and unpredictable. And because we all are generally home and using the internet at the same time, it is a consistent battle amongst neighbors for bandwidth. This place should not even have a choice of 0/5 stars. They are that bad. DLK owns all of Whitewater and they take advantage of the students here. They buy the cheapest houses possible and charge students an unfair amount for the quality of housing they produce. Although it is hard save your $$$$ and the stress you will eventually endure with this place, rent through some other company. DLK is a horrible establishment and should not be allowed to run operations. It is so unfortunate they own practically all of Whitewater. Not to mention there cleaning is done by college students! DLK is the worst "landlord" to rent from. All they care about is getting their money, which is required upfront of course. Once they get their money, they completely neglect the tenents who have paid them so much money to rent a unit. The people that work there can be very rude. For the size and quality of mostly all units, the rent is outrageous, but there isn't much else to rent in Whitewater because DLK owns about 80% of the rental units in Whitewater. Wow... DLK stinks. Basically a college housing slumlord. We'll be renting from a different company as soon as our lease is up. They take their time with maintenance requests, and do a crappy job when they get it done. Office workers are overstressed, and the owners are jerks when you have to deal with them. Worst rental company I have ever had the unfortunate experience of working with. As a whole our unit was pretty clean and well kept, lucky for us because the few maintenance issues that we did need completed took months if they were done at all. For example we did not have clean water in our kitchen sink for the first five months that we lived there and even still they neglected to do anything even when we threatened to go to the city. The staff is the most rude and unprofessional group of people that I have ever met. They made the person who sub let our unit stay in a motel because she was 4 minutes late in a snowstorm going to pick up her keys, and then blamed us for them having lost the keys to the unit in the first place. They held our security deposit almost two months later than they are legally allowed to and then gave me attitude when I called and asked about it. I heard about how terrible DLK was and that I should not rent from them, but I didn't have much of a choice. The first experience that I had with DLK was one of their workers entering my apartment unannounced. It was 7 in the morning and I was still asleep when I woke up with my door being unlocked without a knock. I am a female alone in my first rental and the first experience I have with my landlord is them frightening me and making me feel that I am not safe in my own apartment. On top of this, they called earlier in the summer and I had told them that I would be living there and that there is no need to send a maintenance person to empty our dehumidifiers. They also towed my vehicle when I had purchased a parking pass. I understand that I am at fault for not having the sticker on my car, but when I came to pick up my key, I did not receive my purchased parking pass. The cherry topper is that two months ago we sent a work order to fix our closet doors and two months later we have a man, unannounced, pounding on our door to come fix them when we already fixed the doors ourselves. By law, 12 hours notice is required and twice now we have had no notice. I highly do not recommend renting from DLK and I have only been a renter for 3 months now. read more
