Though the guide's knowledge was great, the house itself... Meh. Age and apathy seem to have settled the house down into a state not quite approaching disrepair but not far off either. What once may have been grandiose is now just old, jaded, faded, and big, but not fancy, while the conservation service running the show seems disinclined to keep up with the grounds on any level other than blowing leaves away from the walkways. Even the cars in the museum have half flat tires. Waste of time and money.

Great experience at the Kykuit Highlights Tour…read more This tour is about 1.5 hours and covers the first floor of the estate and outside. There are other (longer) tours that include more of the estate if you like. All tours leave from the Visitor's Center. There is a large parking lot there...but there is also some overflow parking around the corner ii needed. The overflow lot is a short walk to the Visitor's Center. The center has a large shop with lots of gifts and souvenirs. There are also some snacks and bakery-items (coffee, tea, pastries) available for purchase. There are bathrooms and the ticketing area. You check in at the ticketing area and are given a hand band. A bus (very nice and comfy) will take the tour guests from the visitor's center to the estate...the ride is about 10 minutes. The tour guide will also be on the bus offering some information throughout the ride, including information on the structures and facilities within the larger estate as you pass those by. The tour itself was great...but I can see some may want to visit the other floors of the estate, which is only included in the longer tours. Lots of information throughout the tour. They do keep the schedule pretty tight though as I noticed our tour guide checking the schedule regularly to determine how much time to spend at each room. I understand this is crucial in order to accommodate the various timed tours but it does leave little room for asking questions and some of it felt a little rushed. Photography is ONLY permitted outside of the estate. You cannot take photos inside the estate. You are taken back to the visitor's center when the tour it completed. Overall I had a great visit. I would love to return to view some of the other offerings...such as the Philipsburg Manor. All staff I encountered were friendly and helpful.

We had a tour…read morewith 1 other couple, so it's not a popular location and it probably gets less funding as a State Park site vs. National Park Site so as far as a historical house goes it's not the most intriguing or lavish, but it's nice if you are in the area. It's not as impressive as say Monticello and not as popular and informative as FDR's house not to far away, but it has its charm. Being hidden away can be an asset, as when you are at the house, it's far up the hill from the road and really quiet, so you can get a good sense of what Mr. Jay would have enjoyed in his retirement. You can feel the peacefulness and why he'd choose to live here after living in Manhattan. The tour is about an hour and there was a farmer's market set up in the adjacent lot, but otherwise there isn't a lot to see/do nearby. Still, it's worth seeing if it's not too far from you or if you have other things in the area to see.

The farm is free to attend and roam around, and it's great for dates or hanging out with friends. There is extensive grounds and beautiful architecture. Their food was also really good--everything was organic and many items were grown right there on the farm! There were also free tea tastings when we went. Such a lovely way to spend a beautiful day.

Fort Stamford Park is a tiny little historical park, located just off of Westover Road in the…read morenorthern end of Stamford. There's also a formal gardens on the site, the Goodbody Garden, which is maintained by the Stamford Garden Club. It's a pretty quiet site, mainly consisting of an open field with the ruins of the fort, a little path through the forest at the back end of the site, (where there's a Bicentennial Tree) and the garden area. There's not a lot here, but the meadow/lawn area is nice for a little stroll, and there are some interesting things to look at in the gardens.

I am the author of three books, and my third book is about the country I come from - Georgia. Because many people confuse Georgia with Russia, or with the state of Georgia, I decided to write a book to help Americans better understand my country, its history, culture, and identity. My book, Georgia after the Collapse of the Soviet Union, is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I know I am not a famous author, but I am trying to find my way. I have held book talks at community colleges, local libraries, and coffee shops. I just returned from Los Angeles, where I had a wonderful conversation with students at Glendale Community College. Usually, the process works like this: I visit libraries, introduce myself to directors, and ask if I may hold a talk there. For example, Amagansett Library had me sign a contract and organized the event professionally. With Warner Library, things were very different. At first, I sent three emails to the library director, Ms. Pacciotti, but never received a response because my emails ended up in spam. Three times I went to the library in person, and she was not there. One of the front desk workers even suggested that I file a complaint. I said no, because I did not want to begin a relationship that way. Finally, on my fourth visit, I was lucky enough to meet Ms. Pacciotti in person. It was kind of her to meet with me without an appointment, and together we scheduled my talk for May 28 at 6 p.m. She asked if I wanted to be paid, and I said no. For me, money is not the most important thing. What matters is connecting with local people, meeting my neighbors, and sharing the history and culture of my country. Two weeks before the event, I emailed her asking whether the library was promoting it. Had flyers been printed and shared? A librarian told me the event was not even on the calendar. So how were local people supposed to know about it if the library was not promoting it? I emailed the director again asking what was going on and why the event was not listed on the website, calendar, or social media pages. This is the AI era. A nice flyer and proper promotion could have been created very easily. She later apologized and sent me a simple flyer, but the event still was not properly listed anywhere on the library's website, and the library did not even order my books. I felt deeply disappointed and sad. When you are a director, I believe it is your responsibility to support your local community. I live right near the library on Woodland Avenue in Tarrytown, and honestly, I did not see much effort from her side. I felt like I was not taken seriously and that my work and passion were dismissed. What hurt me most was that after I expressed my feelings honestly, I was told that I was no longer welcome there. This is not the first closed door I have faced in life, but it still hurts. I truly wanted connection and hoped to build something meaningful with my local community. I do not believe I deserved this kind of treatment. Who is responsible for making sure local institutions treat people with professionalism and respect? Who can I write to about this experience? There are lots of books on display and neatly organized. I also didn't expect to see all the toys, like a dollhouse, there for kids to explore. There are 6 small computers that are available for public use. The people working here were really nice and helpful. I can't wait to come back. I was able to buy 6 or 7 hard cover children's books for $10. They accept Zelle if you don't have cash! The main library is on the second floor. They have a spacious children's section with some seating. Employees were quick to ask if I needed help. They have a monthly calendar of events with something scheduled just about every day. In order to get a library card, you have to be a resident of the specific town or city where the library is located. So in this case, you have to live in Eastchester to get a card here. However, once you have a library card for a Westchester library, you can use it in any library in the county.

The selection is good, the "neighborhood book store" is great, and the staff is surprisingly generous with their time and attention.
