**November 2025: Thanksgiving Lunch** Portland, Maine is basically closed on Thanksgiving Day so I'm really glad that I found at least one place that was served food and didn't' require a reservation during the day. My friend and I came around 1pm and it was a pretty hopping place. Unfortunately, there was only one server for the entire restaurant so we did have to wait a while for the menu and for the food itself. What we didn't know was that this bar only serves food one day a year (Thanksgiving) so it seemed like they weren't use to taking food orders. Regardless, we ordered the following to share. -Lobster Roll w/ Chips: This was fine. The lobster did taste fresh; however, just for my personal preference I enjoy my roll with a toasted bun and this was sandwiched between a room temperature. If you prefer your lobster roll cold this would fit the bill -Thanksgiving Pizza: The flavors of Turkey Day all in one perfect bite. It was cheese and the cranberry sauce gave it a nice sweetness. This is definitely a place to get a drink, but I'm glad that they served food during my visit. read more

For the life of me, I can't understand why this place has this many good ratings. I usually go to Yelp when in a new area to find good spots to eat/drink and they've usually been on-point until this one. We went in and it took about 10 minutes to even be greeted when it wasn't that busy. Wasn't given any menus, just asked what would you like? My husband ordered one of their specials listed on the chalkboard above the bar, the rum punch. It ended up tasting like watered down cough syrup and was red in color. To be one of "their specials" they should really know how to make a rum punch. I asked the waitress about a drink someone else was drinking and she said oh, that's just coffee so I asked for the same. Wasn't given or asked if I needed any sugar or cream. Had to ask for it. Was given the cream, then had to ask again for sugar at which I was given Splenda. To be in the middle of a tourist town, this was not the experience I was looking for. Waitress wasn't friendly at all or asked if we needed anything else. This was probably the only bad experience we had in Portland but they don't have to worry about us coming back, lots of other places to choose from. read more

So, this place won me over after a bumpy start. Walked in to an overwhelmingly strong disinfectant/bleach like odor. almost left at the gate, but decided to ride it out. Bartender was very cool. Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. Fun, cheap and predictable. Best happy hour in town. On the cobblestone section of Fore Street. Three words: Frozen Irish Coffee. Whether it was a special or permanent menu item I'm not sure but when we saw the sign we knew we had to try one and OMG it was one of our favorite cocktails of the trip. What's not to love? The perfect combo of COFFEE, whiskey, cream, perfectly slushy and sprinkled with chocolate. We each had a generous serving and then shared another, which our kind waitress graciously split into two glasses. Seemed like a good crowd, sports on TV which is of zero interest, we didn't have any food but overall the vibe was good and again: Frozen Irish Coffee. When I come back to Portland I'll be back here for it. read more

Dock Fore is a hole in the wall bar in the busy touristy Old Port that is really a locals bar. I've lived here for 10 years and I had never heard of it or been there until recently. I've come in a lot recently and here are my conclusions. 1. Small sports dive bar with a couple of sweetheart lady bartenders who have a large loyal following of local patrons. 2. Known for their dirt cheap bottom shelf beer and drink specials during happy hour 5-7ish? 3. Seems to be where people get their first drinks of the night prior to going out to dinner and late night drinking (this is what my friends and I have been doing occasionally). 4. Generally an older crowd of folks, mostly 55+ My favorites: The $4 margarita is good during happy hour and I like the jello shots :) read more

Never ate here so I can't speak for the food. However, the drinks are so cheap (especially during happy hour) and the service is excellent. Plus, they love dogs and spoiled mine with treats as soon as we sat down. Ended up coming back both nights that we were away in Portland. read more

Writing 100% super partial review to Dock Fore. Been a regular since 1996, lived upstairs of the bar the same year, owner would throw my golden retriever m and m's up through the window (with permission). Opened 10/19/1980 and a staple of $1.95 HH select drafts. Small food menu, pizza is great. read more

Dear Sean, I used to be a loyal customer. I would tell all my friends about how this is the best bar in the old port, but after my experience last night, I don't think I'll be back. I came in with three other friends and we each had two rounds. We were all on the same tab and when we got our bill, it was WAY more expensive than what I know Dock Fore prices to be. I asked for an itemized receipt and Chelsea charged us for two beers that weren't ours and and between $6-$8 for the beers that we ordered. There were just two other people in the bar so I'm not sure how she can make the mistake of adding the extra drinks on our tab. Also, when we left we went to a bar next to Dock Fore and ordered the same drinks and they were all two dollars cheaper. Maybe you raised your prices and Chelsea might be new, but it's not a good look and I'll go elsewhere from now on. read more

Literally my favorite bar in Portland. Danny and Hannah are both great bartenders! The owner is here a lot and he's a great guy! They also feature local artists artwork as well. They have $1.95 20oz draft specials everyday. The Bloody Mary is also a great choice. read more

Stopped in here because we saw drink specials (happy hour....ugh how I hate MA for not having these). Great find! Bartender was nice, she let me taste a couple beers before placing my order. Also loved that they had a Geary's anniversary stout on draft (for only $1.95 too!). Looked like the clientele were locals. Everyone was friendly and hanging out. Stop in here for a pre-dinner or pre-expensive-drink-place drink. read more

I mean... you get what you pay for right? This place is your standard cookie-cutter cheap sports bar. Not a bad bar, nor a great bar. Not a clean bar, nor a dirty bar. Just your average, "What'll ya have today?" sports bar. Will I be back? Yes! Am I in a rush to go back? Not really. It's the kinda place I'll go to last during a night out bar hopping. Best happy hour beer specials in the Game. Period. $1.95 for all drafts, with the exception of two (which are $3.95). What's the catch though? Isn't one. Welllll, yes there's a $10 minimum on credit cards. If you can't drink $10 in a bar though, go somewhere that charges you $7/beer and leave us be here at Dock Fore. read more

Definitely go for the drinks and not the food. Very limited bar menu. We had the nachos (just grocery store chips dumped into a basket with a small serving of grocery store salsa), gazpacho (too sweet), tortilla crisp. All the portions were small as were the drink sizes. Service was good and efficient. Nice place to sit outside. read more

A serviceable bar with a great happy hour special. The bar is located far enough from trendier spots in the Old Port so that it doesn't attract a crushing crowd on any given night. Although the reason that this place isn't frequented as much as their happy hour prices should allow is perhaps because it's hard to find; the only place 'Dock Fore' seems to be written is on the red awning above the door, which is not visible unless you're looking at the place from across the street! There is often a chalkboard outside listing the beers on tap and the specials. $1.95 for domestics and $3.95 for imports. I'll never understand why a Shipyard should be less expensive than a Heineken..but after two of the happiest of hours at the bar I'm sure I'll be far less concerned with that philosophical question than I am with not accidentally dropping my iPhone in the toilet. At those prices it's a great place to start a happy hour and an even better place to end it. The rating is mostly for the happy hour; the bar itself is meh. In the two times now I've been it seems like there have been many overserved locals who tend to absorb most of the attention of the bar staff. read more

BEST HAPPY HOUR! I picked drinking beer (while my wife shopped), and stopped in Dock Fore for a dink. Excellent selection of craft and local beers - all for $1.95!! Who can go wrong? Looking for amazing beer specials? Look no further than Dock Fore. Dock Fore is a divey sports bar that houses a lot of locals who are regulars. When you walk in, it feels as though everyone knows each other and there's a comradery among the customers. The bartenders are nice, particularly Sam, who ensures that you are having fun and that your cup is always full. And the beer specials are crazy ridiculous. When we went last night, they had $1.95 Flat Tire. With the purchase of Flat Tire, you also got to keep the glass and have it etched with a design you want. My brother and I stumbled into Dock Fore a little late one night. Anna (sorry if I'm not spelling it right) was very gracious and made us feel welcome. This is one of those places that you wish you could find when you're on vacation but you never can. Laid back, full of locals...there was even a well-behaved dog to pet. PBR on draft. Awesome local beers. Jello shots. Jukebox. They have at least 5 TVs, covering any sport you might fancy. (When we were there, it was the NBA Finals, MLS and US Open...) Anna has that great combination of professionalism and fun: not overbearing, witty and cares about the bar like it's her own. (I thought it was until she told me it wasn't...) We enjoyed ourselves so much, we went out of our way to return 2 days later on our way to the airport. Seriously, go here... read more

I use to frequent Dockfore everyday after work years ago, always a great place to go for a cheap beer during happy hour. The bar and people are what make Dockfore such a treat, no pretentious a-holes using thier parents credit cards to buy a gluten free red Bull milkshake, or whatever, just a great place to slam some beers back with good friends and good people. read more

This is a nice pub with an excellent choice of draft beers for under $2. (2018). I'm 60 and fit in well. Wide range of ages. I only stay until 8. Sean is a really mellow owner and makes you feel comfortable. Him and his wife are very nice to patrons. Soccer seems to be popular on the TV and the pub has a lot of English as a second language folks watching. One of my favorites. read more

$1.95 Shipyard Pumpkinhead pints from 3-7pm daily?! You cannot find a deal like this anywhere else. Period. I've introduced a lot of people to this bar when I'm in town because they have excellent prices for really good beer. The bartenders and the owner are all very nice, and they seem to have a lot of regulars. It sometimes gets busy, but I never have trouble finding a seat, even during World Cup matches. If you're looking for a inexpensive no frills bar with a good tap selection, this may be your new favorite bar. read more

Stopped in towards the end of Saturday night as the last stop after a few different pubs. There wasn't much of a crowd there. The bartender was too busy with another group to pay us much attention. When the other group finally left, the music was turned way up. We left shortly afterwards since it was hard to hear each other talk. Nothing special, and I think there are better pubs in downtown Portland. read more
