Amazing dog beach with easy access during low tide and free parking. There's a hose off area by the portapotties (sp?) On the way out. My pup had a blast! There's a long stretch of shallow knee high water with soft sand and no rocks. This was the perfect place for my pup to lose his fear of the ocean and learn how to swim! Most of the dogs were super well behaved although I did get tackled pretty hard out of nowhere by a group of dogs playing rough - serves me right for checking my phone and not paying attention to my surroundings Overall the beach was perfect for us. If you don't mind wading thru some water and nature to get to a good spot check this place out.

Dog Beach is located off Estero Boulevard, just South of Lover's Key State Park, and north of Bonita Beach. It is not really a "beach"- it is more like a sand bar that really isn't use-able for anything else, so it's now been designated for off- leash dog romping and splashing and playing and socializing. All good things, but don't get any ideas about walking for miles with your pooch on white sandy beaches, because that is not what you'll find. It's more like... a doggie swimmin' hole. Highly recommend checking the tides before you go. High tide=no dog beach! Even at low tide, you will be wading through ankle-high water yourself to get out to the main "beach" (sand bar). No biggie, just be prepared- wear shoes that can get wet & mucky. I have been to dog beach when there have been only 3 dogs, and when there are 100 dogs. It's fun either way! My lab Bailey loves roaming around off-leash, sniffing who-knows-what great fishy, sandy, Gulf smells, and looks darn cute with white powdery sand on his nose. It's really fun to watch all of the dogs romp and play and splash through the water. Since it's tidal and sandbar-ish, there are often very shallow areas of water, which is great for the smaller dogs who like to wade around or cool off, but might not be big fans of swimming in deep water. There are port-a-potties at the entrance to the park, and dog refuse bags are provided. Otherwise, no facilities. Bring your own chair, some drinks & snacks, and don't forget plenty of fresh water & towels for Fido. It would be great if there were a shower or hose in the parking area to rinse off your dog after a day of sand and saltwater, but I am not complaining. It is great that there is a place where people can take their doggies to run off-leash and splash around a bit. I think the park is maintained by volunteers, so YEAH! Way to go Dog Beach volunteers. I'm sure it is a labor of love, and we all thank you :)

Dogs love it. But dirty. Don't swim in the water. Small cove that does not wash out well.

Ask the Community - Dog Beach

How is beach now since hurricane?

Nothing is the same of course since the hurricane. The beach eroded a lot from the surge of the storm. The beach is being cleaned up and they are sifting the sand for valuables and debris. Then the sand is being redistributed.

Love the little boutiques and eateries here. Today we crossed over the Matanzas Bridge into the Fort Myers Beach area which was very busy. Fortunately, we found a place to park directly under the bridge for $5.00 per hour. Only a five minute walk from the sandy beach, there were plenty of eateries to choose from for lunch and decided to eat at Snug Harbor Marina. Literally had a dang good grouper sandwich and a cold beer on a wooden dock overlooking the intercoastal waterways.

It's a white sandy beach that overlooks the beautiful Gulf of America. Along the beach one will find numerous eating establishments, bike rentals, surf and clothing shops, hotels, time shares, and a new Margaritaville which opened last year, just to name a few highlights. So what's better than going to a great beach? Why it's going to a great beach and attending the 34th Annual American Sand Sculpturing Championships. This was held on the beach behind the Diamond Head Beach Resort. It's usually always held in November and this was my first time attending. I was amazed at the finely sculpted works by the talented artists who participated in this event! The detail, creativity, and time put into these were truly evident and inspiring! It was $5.00 to attend the event. Besides the sand sculptures, there were many tents set up with crafts for sale. I had a great time. So even if you're plans don't include being in FMB in November to attend next year's Sand Sculpturing Championships, that's okay - you can enjoy this great beach anytime and I'll guarantee you'll have a good time.

I had a douchebag approach us on a four wheeler demanding that we leave because dogs were not allowed. I apologized to the d!ckhead with a tiny c0ck on a four wheeler feeling tough, and I let him know that I didn't see the signs. He started smirking like a smug a$shole as if I was stupid and said that there were signs everywhere. He was completely focused on taking a picture of me and my family with the dog even after we were leaving, he circled back around to continue harassing us. He took all his energy and put it into our family having a puppy on the beach that we were making sure it did not leave any droppings anywhere, and we also leashed the dog, as asked. He chose to ignore a couple being inappropriate in front of children on the beach giving oral to each other and tongue kissing and making out in front of children and thinking that it was funny. He let this couple continue to be inappropriate on the beach the entire time you were out there and only chose to approach me for the dog. Do not go to this beach if you have a family, and definitely don't bring your dog. I feel like it was extremely rude because even after he approached me and I acknowledge what he said and told him that I honestly did not notice the signs, he got very sarcastic and acted like there was no excuse for my mistake and that I should have known that we shouldn't have brought our puppy along. Instead of my son having a nice birthday chill day on the beach, now he's describing the oral sex that he witnessed on the beach. F*** this beach, f*** that guy on the four wheeler, and he decided to try to educate me on a history of the beach not knowing that this beach was originally a safe place for black people. In the future, just don't be a d!ck in a four wheeler. Maybe stop people from licking privates on a family beach instead of worrying about the obedient puppy making a birthday boy smile. Fck off completely if you're reading this you fcking bored loser go catch bigger fish or better yet, go fck yourself buddy

That's a bit of a bummer of you want to catch the sunset, but for some days they stay longer especially of they have events on the island at the Beach House (cookouts, concerts, etc) which could be fun to attend. Once you are on the island, the relaxation starts, just a quick walk and you're on the beach. There are chairs and umbrellas set up and you can lay in the shade/sun with a book and enjoy the views. The water doesn't go deep, since it's the Gulf of Mexico so you can swim easily. There are beautiful shells to pick up, the best, cute birds around, pelicans and sometimes dolphins. There are restrooms at the club house, and a snack bar if you forgot your drinks, snacks, etc. Prices are reasonable. Wear flip flops since there are more shells around you can step on. The beach is never crowded, it is more natural, relaxing with the white sands and the turqoise water. I enjoyed my walks, my swims and sunbathing here, the perfect vacation spot. I am getting the blues just thinking about it. A slice of paradise in Florida!
