Of all the greenhouses I've visited in Alaska, this one has the widest selection of perennials. They have things that NO ONE else has, so that's pretty cool. What isn't cool? Three things: One- their plants are all on the ground (instead of eye level on tables, crammed to closely together on the wet soggy ground. They're too close together and there's no place to walk. As a result: Two- their plants are being over taken by weeds. Since they're on the ground the weeds are free to take over. The plants are not very well tended at all. Three: The prices are waaaaaay to high given the quality. The plants are small and poorly tended and you pay for the POT size, not the plant size. Kinda ridiculous. The indoor plants in the greenhouse are well tended and gorgeous however. I just think their poor layout makes it really difficult to tend the plants. The greenhouse is an oasis of tropical plants, soothing sounds and smells. They have a cute selection of gifts- wind chimes, soaps and lotions and other zen items. I was really pleased with their selection of herbs, which is one of my favorite subjects: basil, siam basil, tri-colored sage, parsley, oregano, rosemary, thyme, lemon verbena, bee balm, chocolate mint, peppermint, chives and other lovelies. I'll definitely be back, but I'll be looking for sales to make it worth the trip.

They have a decent mix of the two things you are apt to find in downtown Anchorage gift shops: 1) Wildly underpriced goods (magnets, t-shirts, bookmarks, wall art, etc.) made in China. 2) Very spendy items (soaps, salves, syrups, carvings, etc.) made in Alaska by Alaskans. This is my Mom's favorite downtown gift shop. The clothing and stuffed animal sections here are particularly massive. Though you aren't going to find any technical/pragmatic/outdoor clothing, this is all chiefly gear to let folks in the lower 48 know that you've been to Alaska. If you're a local, the advantage of going here is to see all the various Alaska-made goods in one place, so you can go patronize those individuals and companies directly.

The ladies in the store were so helpful and friendly! Terry checked me out and talked to my husband while I shopped. They have a fantastic amount of kits and fun fabrics for good prices. She will engage in conversation if you get it started while buying something. Hmmm. I had thought at one time that I may be a regular if only because the wonderful Leanin' Tree greeting cards are carried here. Meh. I get more warmth at the Hallmark store which is in the same mall, and from ordering cards online with Greeting Card Universe, where customizing is free. Grunting, and pointing without smiles. I found some boxed chocolates on my own. And although the venue was large, I didn't feel comfortable surfing products in such and unfriendly atmosphere. I did see some Alaska cards in a rack...., I saw the price and thought holy s#it....i can't afford this place.... So I just got the chocolates and left. Are the chocolates good? I have no idea they were gift.
