Finally tried Dohtonbori! I love okonomiyaki, it is probably one of my favorite Japanese street foods, so I was really excited when this restaurant finally arrived in the Philippines. Sadly, the excitement went off when I got busy and I couldn't try it until now. Wary of the long lines, my wife and I went to the restaurant earlier than the lunch rush. Still have to wait when we got there, but we were the first in the waiting line.
I love its ambiance, with a very Japanese feel and all the decorations just adds up to the vibe. We ordered several dishes to try. We had mixed okonomiyaki, seafood monjayaki, and pork yakiniku. With the ingredients readily given to you, you only need to mix and make your own okonomiyaki at the yakiniku grill. We let the staff do it at first, but he never came back, so we had to flip and cook it ourselves. The okonomiyaki was really good. I was glad everything was cooked in front of you including the pork yakiniku and gyoza. The monjayaki is something new to me. It is a Tokyo version of okonomiyaki but has a crepe-like base and a sticky filling combination.
Generally, food is good, but you might come here for the shear experience of cooking okonomiyaki and other dishes. Give it a try, it might make your while. Don't wake up the cat though. :) read more
