We really enjoyed our stay with a few caveats: - not walkable to anything, so we used a lot of taxis - room is set up with the strange 21st century hotel styling - glass doors for the bathroom and toilet room. Hope you like doing your business out in the open, because it feels like there's no privacy! - shower left a lake in the corner after every shower. - 1 pillow per person and it was a hard flat feather pillow. Very nice hotel located in a forested area. Has a beautiful walking path to Chateau La Hulpe and if you feel up to it you can walk all the way to the Waterloo battlefields (or so I have been told by a Belgian flight attendant who is from the area). What wasn't so nice is that kids from the floor above us were making a racket until after midnight. We are early sleepers and it took multiple calls to the reception desk to get this issue solved. The flooring appears to be made from wood. This spoiled one day for us as we were both a bit tired the next day due to lack of sleep. The breakfast buffet is really nice. We enjoyed taking relaxing long breakfasts lazily looking out of the large windows at the nearby woods. Feels very peaceful. Pro tips: go early Sunday morning for breakfast buffet as it's very busy by 10. read more

Like other reviews I find this hotel hot and cold. Room key didn't work twice so had to get a new room, a long walk back desk. Very quiet outside. Came in Saturday night to screaming children banging on the grand piano. People need to watch their kids....but not watch them bang on the piano. It is not a toy. Breakfast brunch was good. Lots of choices. Staff works hard to push alcohol for brunch. Had a good time at bar and was well taken care of. He warned us that hotel needs at least an hour to find a taxi for any trips. Decided to get our own transport to airport when we leave. Burger at restaurant was very good. I had the world tapas plate which was very good. read more

I stayed here for a conference recently, as many others have commented, I had a "hot and cold" experience. Pros: It's in a quiet, secluded location, nestled in the beautiful UNESCO recognized Sonian Forest. It's a large facility with spacious rooms and modern facilities. The conference facilities are great with well equipped rooms and new chairs/tables etc. Cons: It's in a secluded location... lol. As I travelled from Canada for this conference, it would be great if the city of Brussels was a bit closer. It will cost you at least 30Euro to catch a one way Uber to the city and because of the secluded location, be ready to wait 20-30min for that Uber to show up. The food is awful. The conference I attended had a buffet for each meal and they were all just barely edible. Great place to be at if you're looking to lose a few lbs. The washrooms in the room is a bit odd, there is a hole in the frosted glass door where a knob would be for the toilet. The shower stall is open to the sink area, which is open to the room (no door or curtain. There is a window from the shower into the bedroom which isn't frosted, there is a privacy curtain but it's on the opposite side of the window from the shower occupant, so if your roommate is sitting on the bed, they could just reach back, pull the curtain to the side and watch you shower. oasis in the Belgian forests, luxury spa and conference hotel combo For family visits to La Hulpe we were very fortunate to discover a luxury hotel not far away and have gotten to know Dolce very well during four stays in spring, summer, fall, and winter. During our stays we got to know almost all the room types that Dolce offers: Superior, Executive, Junior Suite, and the Sequoia Suite. We had breakfast both as part of the room price and also in different packages for an additional fee. Compared to the accommodation and to the quality of the Brasserie restaurant, the buffet was a bit disappointing with the typical disadvantages: jostling for space, balancing plates, over emphasis on fried food with no fish offered at all during our stays. We'd have been prepared to pay more for a healthy breakfast a la carte. Our first stay was in a Superior room (number 6044) with wonderful wooden floors and a great shower and a private relaxing view of trees and greenery. The bed was superb: great mattress and wonderful pillows. And we made use of the huge safe-in-a-drawer (see photo): we were able to store our tablets and laptop away safely with no problem. During our next stay we tried an Executive room (number 2461), located in a building closer to the spa, with a sofa and a nice view of the forest but with carpeting and a small cramped bathroom with tub and shower-in-tub. We moved on our second night then to a wonderfully spacious Junior suite with wooden floors, a flat screen TV in the middle of the room, a truly luxurious bath and shower combo. Sadly the large windows look out onto one of the busy paths from the parking lot to the reception area and thus this ground floor suite doesn't have the privacy of the smaller room (which has become our favorite) right across the hallway. Our most recent stay was on New Year's when we booked the largest most extravagant accommodation, the Sequoia Suite, with a living room and dining room area, two separate bathrooms, a separate bedroom with free-standing tub and high-tech shower and bath and luxurious amenities with a beautiful view of the surrounding forest areas. In addition to the size of the suite (the Sequoia name fits), we appreciated the nice designer touches - the vases in the foyer and the sculpture that helped make a suite that's mostly used for business also a cozier place for private stays. Reception staff was always very friendly, helpful, and almost always competent - perhaps surprising since we noticed quite a few with "trainee" on their badges. Nicolas, one of the staff members from our first stay, remembered us upon our second stay and provided us with interesting details about the history of the hotel as originally headquarters for IBM. During our most recent stay over New Year's we met the manager Mr. Jansen, who was proficient in English and Spanish and thus could greet our entire multi-lingual family. Leonhard took wonderful care of us, showing us our Sequoia Suite and giving us some more background history on the hotel and explained some of the challenges of trying to satisfy conference and tourist guests. Guillermo at the Badian Bar provided us with the best of all possible welcome drinks (part of our special New Year's Eve package) - a delicious Aberfeldy whisky and a glass of sparkling champagne. Our waiter Hicham spoke Spanish to the family and thus made us feel at home. The room numbers are somewhat confusing at first: the 6 or the 2 doesn't refer to the floor but to the building - the hotel itself is made up of several separate buildings linked by longer indoor corridors. Regardless of which rooms we were in, we enjoyed the wonderfully relaxing large lobby area with beautiful views of the forest and an interesting assortment of different styles of furniture in different areas, the large open space with neat modernistic comfortable and cozy furniture, light and very airy, and a relaxing hotel fragrance throughout. During our various stays we've also visited the in-house spa with swimming pool and sauna, taken walks in the forest area that surrounds the hotel complex along paths that connect the nearby Chateau de La Hulpe and the small art gallery to the Dolce La Hulpe. We've also walked along the path that marks the border between French-speaking Wallonia and Flemish-speaking Flanders and jumped from one side to the other. We've come to see Dolce La Hulpe as our home away from home and thus are grateful that what is basically a conference hotel for groups also provides wonderful accommodations for tourists and for return guests like us. read more

I've been debating what to give this hotel and conference center, but I think I have to settle on a 3. I arrived early one morning and was happily given early check in. Upon entering my room, I realized that I had been (somehow) given a much larger room than my colleagues...score! We visited for a week long conference, and I will say that the meeting rooms are relatively nicely appointed, and there is a room that can be used by meeting attendees for coffee, snacks, sodas, etc. Generally, the staff was friendly, food was plentiful and the rooms were clean, but I have a few watch outs for those trying to have a meeting here. - be prepared that if you want to change your reservations, they will continue to charge you (no early check out, etc). - there is a daily buffet and typically, things show up multiple times...my recommendation is that if you are here for a week...go out for dinners. Otherwise, you'll be full of smoked salmon (one of my colleagues said that he thought he was going to grow fins). There is a bar menu, but since we were a group, we would have had to pay extra for it....so we didn't try it. -the gym, based upon the size of the hotel is minuscule. I managed to snag an elliptical, but the treadmills were almost impossible to seize. -do not pre-order cabs...they won't come. We had multiple instances of missing cabs. -the staff, while super friendly, will not communicate well with each other with planning...we had misses on food arrival, food in general, taxis and cars as mentioned above, and that whole thing about checking out (our party had a special contract, but the front desk staff didn't know the details, so it typically took 4 visits to the front desk to get things done...) The location, while pretty, is not useful if you want to see Brussels. It is about 30 min from the city and there are no spots to walk to or visit. You are definitely in the middle of a forest. There are also a ton of holiday folks staying here for the spa...so be prepared to hang out with folks in bathrobes in the lobby. The Dolce is one of these hot and cold hotels. I have stayed here about 4-5 nights per year for the last 4 years. There are lots of things great and lots of things that are pretty bad. You know the three most important important things in real estate right? Those are the three worst things about the Dolce: location, location, location. The next worst thing is price. But beyond that, there's a lot to like. Huh? Lemme explain. La Hulpe is the kind of town you go because you have to. It's a tiny village with a handful of important businesses located nearby. Otherwise it is unremarkable. The Dolce is a former IBM research park that has been converted into a hotel and conference centre. It's a couple miles up the road from SWIFT and also branded "Delloite University", so you can guess the clientele. The rooms are spacious, really nicely appointed, and totally configured for business travellers. There are irons, ample electric connections, free WiFi (that doesn't have a stupid click-here-to-connect) and nice bathrobes/slippers in the rooms. The hotel property is huge. You need a car to get from reception to the main road. It is literally 1.2km from the front door of the hotel to the main road, and then it's several km to get to anything interesting. The property boasts some lovely hiking trails and it's a fabulous place to just get away. So if isolation sounds good to you, you're in the right place. You'll be taking a taxi (unless you drive your own car) and that adds €30-50 each way to anything you want to do away from the hotel. I love how big the hotel is. There are lots of places to get out, relax, sit down and be alone in your thoughts. But that's really all there is to do here. When I'm in the mood for that, it's great. I bring cigars and pipes and I walk and smoke. Food here is outrageous. Not only is it expensive, but the quality is just so-so. The dinner buffet was nearly €40, and as a vegetarian, appalling for that price. "Pasta with olive oil" was just swimming in a pool of olive oil. The "sauteed beans" were boiled 12 seconds short of being complete mush. Cheeses were lovely, and some other cold vegetarian options were not so bad. But paying €40 for it is absurd. I prefer the bar food for dinner. For literally half the price of the overpriced, underwhelming buffet, I can get a veggie burger and fries and a couple beers. Of course, that's €18 for a veggie burger. And, while it's tasty and filling, it is veggie burger worth €8, not €18. I am amused by the prices on the web site, too. They advertised a standard room rate at one price, warning that the buffet breakfast is an addiitional (and also outrageous) €23. But the "bed and breakfast" rate, which includes the buffet, was an additional €30 per night. I'm not sure who falls for that, but it makes no sense to me. The breakfast foods are good quality, and nicely appointed, but hardly worth that kind of extra money. The Dolce is a beautiful example of macroeconomics working at a micro scale here. Competition drives down prices and increases quality. It's good for the consumer. The Dolce has no innate competition. You simply cannot get any food from anywhere else (no deliveries, no takeaways, nothing) without getting in a taxi or a car and spending some time and money. So a lack of competition leads to uncompetitive offerings, like mediocre food at outrageous prices. I only stay here if I am here for 3 days or less. If I'm in the area for longer, I get a cheaper hotel in Brussels, walk to fine restaurants, and take a taxi to/from La Hulpe each day. If you're driving, it's a bit different. But I'm not driving. read more
