Students were present, but meaningful academic learning did not seem to be the priority I expected from a public school. Teachers and staff appear to have stable, well-funded positions, yet the level of academic engagement and accountability for student outcomes felt low. It came across more like a day-care environment than a focused learning environment. I'm sharing this because families deserve transparency. If you're considering Alder Middle School, I strongly suggest asking clear questions about how instructional minutes are protected, how often students receive rigorous academic lessons, and how the school measures actual learning growth.

On Tuesday May 17th during school hours my nephew was assaulted by another male student while in…read moreclass. My nephew was sent to the said "certified nurse" who said there wasn't a bump on his head and that he was over exaggerating and sent him back to the class room. His teacher told my sister his mother that he been body slammed by a student and that she had made a incident report that was sent to the office and we were asked by the teacher if we were informed of the situation but we were just told he had slipped. The only one at the school concerned about my nephew was his teacher because she told my sister she didn't know why the nurse sent him back if he had a big bump on his head and the floor was concrete with the the thin rug. My sister since had tried getting the truth out of the principal she was turned down because the principal said she doesn't have time for this because of meetings that never happen and her and the whole front office turned to blame my sister and the teacher for no reason. My sister ended up filing a complaint with the school police and the officer who was so kind went to the school and let the principal that they were opening an investigation or something of that sort I wasn't there but not even two minutes later my sister was finally getting calls back from everyone who said that they were to busy to talk to her. Once they did reach out the principal stated yet again that she wasn't made aware of any situation with my nephew and kept on saying and I quote "uh huh ya uh huh yea" during the whole phone call until my sister stated the we are taking legal action against the school because since Tuesday my nephew has been in and out of 4 ER because the hit to his head did result in a concussion and keeps on falling asleep at random times and his body shakes as if he is going to have a seizure. The teacher sent an email out to everyone involved at the school and told them that they are getting sued so she is now trying to brush it off and telling my sister for them to just resort the situation them selfs and when my sister declined the principal said and I quote " okey-dokey haha we'll hear from your lawyer" then proceeded to hang up the phone. I have seen them work harder on diversity efforts which has always been my main concern. I do think there's still room for improvement there however it's gotten much better over the last few years. Bullying has always been a factor for my children however being the parent that I am I always reach out and any issue seems to be immediately addressed. They ensure kids are continuing to get the Christ-Centered education which is my main objective for my remaining child. Overall I do recommend school however I encourage parents to address issues immediately when it happens as yes it could be swept under the rug if not addressed.
