Calls were punctual, returned calls, quickly, day or night, answered questions, provided follow-ups. We were involved with office & class instructor, Olga Ramirez, & driving instructor, Robert Rado. They were outstanding! The school offers study and review materials as much as one needs. Lessons, hours, & fees can be worked out to fit one's schedule & budget. It also provides a "reward system" a system for drivers Ed classes that is motivating and fun... Mature drivers are not left out of the loop. They are matched with instructors who will give extra patience during driving lessons, depending on their specific needs or concerns. Defensive driving skills are taught. Safety is always # 1! Robert Stahl tries to stay on top of the latest info concerning DMV & driving. He will research answers to client's questions if he's not sure. He used a technical program that recorded my sons driving. Played it back for him, showing his strengths and things to be improved. Visual is always good! He also knew that a certain DMV was trying a new permit test. Oral eval and visually based. This is a blessing for people who have difficulties with traditional testing. I can't thank Robert Stahl enough! This allowed my 30 yr. old son on oral/audio lessons. The ability to expedite his chance of getting his "permit". Today my son has a license (accomplished both, permit and license on his 1st try) and is trilled! I'm so glad to have found Dollar Driving School. Before Dollar driving School, I was a student in a different driving company in Tarzana and I didn't learn the right way of driving. The instructors from that company are middle eastern people and they make me nervous. Somehow I think the way they talk is like yelling, I'm not a racist, but honestly, it felt like they just took money from me. I enrolled with that company few times because the instructor said I have to drive more which I did. They didn't teach me what the signs on the streets are for, they didn't taught me what to do, not to do, what is legal and illegal maneuvers. Well, I learned to step on the gas, turn right and left which I know already but technically, they didn't taught me safety and the law driving on the street which is very important. I took the tests, and failed few times. I was so annoyed because I paid a lot from that company. I took so many classes from them. So I went on line and found Dollar Driving School. They are very nice, honest, professional people. My instructor was David, and he is so awesome. He's funny and very patient and supportive. I really felt so comfortable and confident with him. He will tell you every single thing that you would think is not important when driving, ei... like being aware of cars that doesn't light up their tail lights on a stop light, or watch out for dips and bumps...knowing the posted speed limits, turning wide is a no no.. etc... etc... like REALLY paying attention to signs on the streets and traffic lights, and People. I cannot say enough positive things about Robert Stahl and Dollar Driving School. Several people in my family have benefit from their services: 1) My two college-age daughters and my niece all received their in-classroom driver education, and their behind-the-wheel driver training, from Dollar. All 3 young women are very safe, excellent drivers today with clean driving records. In fact, my oldest daughter who is a senior at UCLA, works as an Emergency Medical Technician for the UCLA Medical Center and drives an ambulance transporting critically ill patients. While ambulance driving requires a special license, the skills she learned at Dollar Driving School transferred directly to her job and enabled her to assume a tremendous amount of responsibility as a 21-year-old. This summer, my 15-year-old daughter will begin taking driver education. Her sisters' experience and success point to Dollar as the best driving school choice for her. 2) My father got his drivers license reinstated at the age of 91, after 6 months of intensive, behind-the-wheel lessons from master instructors at Dollar Driving School. Anyone who has parents or grandparents over the age of 90 knows that the DMV comes down very hard on drivers in that age range. This is because the DMV wants drivers over 90 to get off the road and stay off, obviously for safety reasons. Hence most of them no longer drive. Today my father is 94, physically healthy and mentally sharp. He is an excellent, safe driver, still driving freeways and local streets. I had to renew my license last June and (because of a vision problem) I needed to take a behind the wheel driving test. I'm a good driver, and after 65 years of driving I figured it should be "no problem." However, the week after my 82nd birthday I took the test and failed it not only once but twice! What the DMV examiners look for has changed over the years and one only gets three tries in any given year, so I thought I might do well to seek some help. Robert Stahl of the Dollar Driving School was a knight in shining armor and he and his staff really saved the day for a dear friend of mine (an older gentleman who had experienced some ageism and had had his driver's license suspended) a couple of years ago. Since Robert had been so helpful to my friend to get his license back, I called. Robert was a gem and he and his top driving coach were first rate in preparing me for the exam. I took two months to be sure that good new habits had become pretty much automatic. They were very generous and accommodating as was the staff. And yes, it was more time and money than I had figured on spending last summer but it was worth every penny. And now I have my renewed unlimited license in my hand since shortly after Labor Day, and I am a much safer driver as well as forever grateful to Robert Stahl and his Dollar Driving School staff. read more

Whether you're 16 or 60, or beyond, Robert Stahl and his crew can help you navigate the awfulness of the DMV. I turned 70 this year so, happy birthday to me, I got to visit DMV. Unfortunately, I lost vision in one eye a couple of years ago, but continued to drive without difficulty. I arrived at the Van Nuys branch with the appropriate form from my eye doctor. They decided I had to take a behind the wheel test, which I did, also in Van Nuys, and to my astonishment, I failed miserably for things that had nothing to do with my vision loss. I didn't lose my license; I got an extension and another chance at the exam. I knew I needed driving lessons to help me pass. I made some calls and Robert was recommended to me. I signed up for 12 hours of behind the wheel instruction. It was expensive, but what price your independence? My actual instructor was Luis, who was delightful, and patient with a senior who had turned into a bundle of nerves. He also speaks Spanish, in case abuelita finds herself in this jam. I passed the exam Friday in Winnetka. It's a much more pleasant office in every respect. If you have to take a road test, TAKE LESSONS FIRST. You probably won't pass without them. After two failed tests (my license was suspended following erratic driving due to wrong medication) the DMV suggested I take a course with a driving school before taking another test. I took their advice. After researching several and talking to them, I settled on Dollar Driving School. And how I thank my lucky stars for that decision! He ironed out all the bad habits I'd acquired over 40 years of driving, the ones which had caused me to fail the 2 previous tests, and restored my confidence. All our children have learned to drive through Dollar Driving School. We've made the choice again and again because we know that our kids will end up learning how to be safe drivers. Robert, president and owner of DDS, makes it his utmost priority to make sure each student learns the necessary skills to be a safe driver. After each lesson, Robert sits down and goes over each aspect of driving and rates the student. My kids have friends who go with less experienced drivers, who take a bunch of kids in the car, and give them instruction till they can pass a drive test. It's a much cheaper option but when my son is learning the skill of driving, it's crucial to me that he ends up being a safe driver for life, not simply passing his road test. Both my brother and I used Brigette and Robert Rado for almost 40 hours of driving instruction before we got our licenses. We felt like they really cared about us becoming better drivers and we enjoyed driving with them. They are fun to talk to and made us confident drivers. We barely missed any points on our driving exams and we feel like we are safe and comfortable drivers. Both teachers and Robert Stahl were always willing to talk about our progress with our parents and since we have to take the highway to get to school, by the time we were finished, our parent felt comfortable with us driving everywhere. We had an instructor named David, a tall young man in his late twenties, I'd guess, who was phenomenal. He taught two of my boys. The first passed his driving test within a couple of weeks with only 3 mistakes (out of a possible 16) and I'd say he's a good driver. David noticed problems that my second son was having, problems we'd never zeroed in on before, including noticing that his glasses were not nearly strong enough. I can't believe he caught that and we missed it. He hasn't taken his test, yet. David is responsible and prompt, and the kids said he kept the lessons interesting the whole time.
