This is the dollar general located closest to my house and unfortunately I stopped by tonight. I…read morenormally go to the new one in Lavelle since they have built it because it's on the way home from work for me. Truth be told I have lived here for almost 11 years and this was my second time in this DG because the last time I was in it years ago it was filthy and had merchandise in the aisles. I had to run and get a loaf of bread and didn't feel like going to the tiny grocery store across town. I tried the gas station next door (that should tell you how much I didn't want to go into DG). Unfortunately they were sold out of bread because we got 2" of snow today. So I went into DG and just like probably 8-9 years ago it was dirty, dimly lit and there was merchandise laying on the floor. The whole store had no rhyme or reason as to how it is set up unlike the new ones. Look I don't like dollar stores because they are mostly like this. The new one the built in lavelle is more like a small grocery in the city. Plus they are actually staffed with more than two people. The staff in this location were not rude but just seemed annoyed to be working there and I would be also if I had to look at cluster like this everyday at work. The best thing DG could do is just shut this location down and make people go to the new ones in Lavelle and in Strong. Please just don't go to this one. It's so depressing and dirty.

Everything, they never stock their shelves or have anything on the 5 for 25 shelves until Thursday…read moreand are already out of everything on Monday. No one is happy with the pine grove store anymore..they really went downhill..my family and I will be grocery shopping at redners..

Since my last review, I figured it was overdue for an update from my overly positive review. I wish…read morethe current status of my review to reflect radiance as it's still a hometown mom and pop store that despite the expansions, operates and acts like a corner mom and pop store. They may err on the side of safety and reliability a little too much. Since my last review, they have replaced their very skimpy organic section to appeal to a skimpy Latin section, mostly bare bones and inexpensive Goya products that are about as bittersweet nostalgia to working poor Latinos as boxed Jiffy cornbread would be bittersweet to the mostly Caucasian population that serves the area. Some can argue with sentimentality this move could even be racist, but I would not take it quite that far as I think they were trying to appeal to a demographic who will buy while working with a certain budget allowance even if that means bare bone staples and possibly shopping at a nearby competitor grocer to pick up the rest of the slack. Also, since my last review, Betty has reposed. It is nice to see some veteran, reliable hands here that are knowledgeable, kind and helpful of their stock and within the realm of customer service. The newer hands that get hired could stand to use a refresher in this training, or learning more from the veteran hands. Their lack of enthusiasm and sense of customer service does not set the bar high enough. There was also newer hands who if you have them friended on Facebook, will criticize their regular customers who have to pay for their groceries with SNAP. Everyone is full aware of the economical conditions in the area and should not be surprised of the amount of earnest individuals who need snap access given the rising cost of living and vast majority on fixed incomes. Based on how these newer hands mouth off on their Facebook profile, they are attempting to lump in these earnest individuals in with a few or several isolated incidents of fraud that don't speak for the whole lot of people. And I am aware Facebook is a form of free speech, but a cashier working with customer service, is a professional and has a reputation to serve. I feel a long-standing mom and pop shop like Boyer's should not never reward employees who aren't doing their due diligence to represent the work experience they're trying to gain much less company image of what they represent. Not much else to chew over externals, as they do their best to keep aisles clean, shelves stocked with the basic necessities at reasonable prices. Plenty of parking with handicapped accessibility as well. For your basics, this is your go-to!

We sat for 45 minutes watching people come and goI asked one of the kids what was going on he said he also checked me in and would be right out with my order. 30 minutes later I got a text saying it was delayed 2 hours more I called the number on the text spoke with Yury he was nice but not helpful saying there busy basically just wait. Another hour past people coming and going I only had a $60 order not big and again was told they were still picking. Finally I stopped another young man that told me I wasn't checked in at this point my husband was ready to go in and get the stuff himself, Elliott came up and finally got to the bottom of this mess and brought my order out. Unfortunately I had ordered a turkey and they were out a few other items also were out. Everything was in stock when I placed the order. My $60 order reduced to $45. To top it off I ordered a 5 lb. bag of potatoes but when I got the bag it was only half a bag with 6 small potatoes in it. But of course I paid for a whole bag. Never again Walmart we left there and went to Boyers market to get what Walmart said they didn't have. I never did get a turkey because I couldn't afford Boyers. Incidentally we stopped at Walmart later even though we did not purchase anything we did check everything they said wasn't there except a small Shadybrook turkey was there. Bigger turkeys were there though.

Then, while I was standing in line a girl was cashing in a ticket from one of those game machines & she tried to tip him & he refused... Then she said okay, pay for the next person's order & he said okay I will, but you keep your money & he paid for my order! Such a genuine human with compassion. I ordered a sub for my mom & I, & they were done almost immediately. Such wonderful fast & friendly service. We will be returning very often!

I thought that was odd cause no one else was in the store, but whatever.... I came back 40 mins. Later and he still wasn't done my order, and when he finally finished, I asked if I could get a Hoagie, and he told me no he was to busy. Never in my life have I had a business do that and I'd much rather walk the extra distance and go to boyers. Mt. Carmel questions why the small businesses don't last here, well if the people who run them are anything like this place, I can see why. I'll take my lunch meat order for my family elsewhere and you have lost a good $75+ sale. Update 7/9/15: My mom sent my sister down to get order 2 subs, and he denied her service and told her he can't do it. Why run a business if you "can't" serve your customers???
