However , within a month of this particular store opening , I went there to do some pretty extensive shopping as I most always do. The huge plus was that since I live more in what's considered the country than the city I was excited to have my favorite store open so close to my home. ( A little less than a mile !!! ) However , as my 11 yr old daughter were checking out, with 2 buggies which is my norm, one of the ladies working heaved a huge sigh and said ' Oh God , not 2 buggies an hour before closing time'!. I was honestly shocked. She wasn't even the cashier , she was just standing at the front door. The cashier was a young girl that seemed extremely embarrassed, but too shy or unsure of herself to talk back to this woman. She just smiled a me a little , and checked my groceries while my daughter ( special needs ) bagged them. The woman that was sooo rude kept a running dialogue on how if I held them up. they might get robbed. And that I'd be home snug in my bed while they were still closing up the store...She also suggested that if I intended to buy so many items that I should go to Wal-Mart !! I said very little , as I don't want to set a bad example for my little girl. She was already afraid of the employee at the door who continued to complain the entire time. I haven't been back to that store. I was going to stop going to all Dollar General Stores , but your company opened one on Pearl River Ave., which is about 5 miles from my home , is much larger , I pass daily when I take and pick up my child from school, and the employee's are much nicer. By the way , the night at the store closest to my home, I was out of Dollar General and putting my groceries in my car at a quarter until 9 p.m., and on my way home before 9 p.m. I probably did make it home before she did. I didn't keep them from closing on time , though. I also spent approximately $270, which is also typical, twice a month. Somewhere in that ballpark , sometimes more, sometimes less. Never less than $200 when I shop seriously the major 2 times each month there. You have a store on Hwy 51 North towards Summit , also on my way to my child's school, that has the friendliest employees f all of the stores I've been in belonging to Dollar General in this area. I love MOST of your stores , and I believe the employee's at first the store on Pearl River kept me from stopping shopping with your stores altogether, and the employee's at the one on 51N kept me being able to run in and out of one when I just need a few things , not 2 buggies full ! As for the one out on 98E, I think they need more employee training. The young girl didn't say a thing out of the way , but I'd be willing to bet she didn't report it to her store mgr , and I know she didn't ask the rude employee to be friendlier to the customer , or maybe come over there and help her bag my groceries. She then may have been too busy to put your customers down and suggest they shop at Wal-Mart for larger purchases. My parents owned their own business for many years , and if an employee spoke to anybody, a customer or another employee , like that, they'd be picking up their last check immediately. Rudeness was never tolerated, and they had a very lucrative business. I know your stores sell themselves for the most part, but there ARE other stores out there. People love to leave a place of business feeling valued , and for more than the money they may or may not have spent that day. I hope you all have a blessed day !!! I will continue to shop at your other stores , and , honestly , steer people away from the one that treated us badly. I will also hope that Phil the Groundhog doesn't see his shadow tomorrow lol !!!!! Thank you for your patience and your time.
