In the morning of 10/3/2020 I went to the Fort Oglethorpe Dollar General Market to pick up quite a few items. Before my visit I had loaded a lot of coupons on my account via online, including the weekly $5 off $25 they run each week. In addition, I had a $5 DG gift card (or so I thought) that I had received from DG due to their coupons not applying and/or applying correctly. Once I got to the checkout, I entered my phone# so that my coupons would be applied. At first, it seemed to take - then all the sudden it logged me out. The nice cashier worked with me several times - I would try to re-enter my # and again, get logged out. She also scanned the DG gift card and it did not have the $5 it! People - this is what Dollar General has stooped to! Next thing I know, I've got a female store manager, then shortly after that, a tall male staff (security?... I don't know who he was - but he was less than 2 ft from me WITHOUT A FACE MASK!) The female manager asked me what the problem was and I explained it to her, and she became a bit defensive and said there was nothing she could do about it. I made it clear that I understood it was not her fault, but that I was TRYING to communicate that there are real issues with their system. Her attitude and tone made me feel like I had done something wrong for just informing them of the problem! I let them know I would not be purchasing the buggy full of items without being able to get credit for all the coupons I had loaded. After seeing real quick that this was going nowhere fast, I told them that I would just take my business elsewhere. I exited the store as was hobbling to my car, when the male employee (again-no mask) approached me and asked if I was still interested in purchasing the items, the manager said she would manually adjust the total for my coupons. He asked me "So how much do you think the coupons you have on your account come to?" So on the spot - with the numerous items - I'm trying to calculate my coupons in my head, but the guy would not stop talking and was very patronizing. I couldn't think straight and was trying to get him to hold on so that I could give him an accurate $, but he raised his voice to me and said "Mam - DON'T YOU SHUSH ME!" (Let me remind you I'm NOT IN THEIR STORE - I'M TRYING TO LEAVE THEIR STORE - HE APPROACHED ME!) That's when I told him I never want to do business with the likes of them ever again. I'll take my business elsewhere! I told him that I was an old disabled grandma and I'm no threat - and I do not need to be treated this way - and HE LAUGHED IN MY FACE! People, this is PURE EVIL! Disrespectful! He, in my honest opinion, was trying to stir up trouble. Why else was he acting that way??? Once I got to my car - I was so upset I just burst out crying. I don't know how I held it together as long as I did. Not to mention it takes a lot out of a person with a physical disability to shop in general. Now all my efforts went down the drain. Now - I am upper in age and suffer from more than one disability - including heart disease and osteoarthritis. I always wear my mask and do my errands early in the morning to avoid Covid-19 exposure to the best of my ability. For an employee at this store to approach a customer, without a face mask and not social distancing and treat them this way is beyond reprehensible! Food City is across the street - I spent over $100 after I pulled myself together. BEWARE! This store is horrible. Take your business elsewhere. read more

I'm not huge on dollar stores in general, just because some of the ones I've been in in the past have been overly disorganized. I dropped off some donations at the Goodwill next door and decided to pop in here to see if they carried citronella candles. I was surprised to find the "Market" indicated fresh fruit and vegetables as this isn't something I remember seeing in dollar stores in the past. I thought that was awfully convenient if you're running in here for something else and realize you'd forgotten an vegetable for dinner. I wouldn't say it was the absolute most fresh selection, but it really wasn't bad. I picked up some strawberries and a watermelon along with my outdoor candle purchase, so I suppose more to come on that. The store was very organized and the cashier was very friendly and we discovered we were both animal lovers and had a nice conversation. I'd come back. read more

A NEW GROCERY OPTION! While driving around Tennessee and the Northwestern part of Georgia, we continued to see signs for Dollar Genera Market Store. The market part really threw me off and I was curious to know more. We stopped at this particular location and realized that this is an expanded Dollar Store that sells groceries. Now, don't get crazy because while they do carry produce and some staple food items, this is still Dollar Store quality. For example, there is no natural peanut butter here, I mean just peanuts and a touch of salt. My favorite item to purchase is the 100% apple juice that comes in the single serve glass bottles. These are perfect for the cooler but were not available at this location. You can actually purchase party supplies, cards, personal care items, cleaning items and clothing here. Although I like the convenience of a Dollar Store, (especially when traveling), the idea of a market just didn't quite convince me. I could not imagine choosing this store over a major grocery chain, (directly across the street). Perhaps the prices are much better on same item sales, I wouldn't know because they seem to carry more junk food than actual groceries. I think that this market is a great asset for under served areas but just cannot compete with major chains when it comes to quality and variety. read more

I am a regular at dollar generals. They are an excellent corner store chain, and allow me to avoid the shoddy walmarts that infest this impoverished countryside. And I have to say, this was the worst dollar general I have had the displeasure of shopping in for the simple reason that the employees are first-rate grouches. In every other DG, I was treated fairly, with absolutely no complaints about the staff's conduct and civility. The worst that happened was the occasional computer error due to outdated software, which was promptly corrected by my next visit. I stopped at this DG, presuming it on par with the others. Not so. For a "market", the shelves are poorly stocked, and you run a solid chance of being mistreated by the staff. I'm not going to speculate as to the reason for my mistreatment until I have talked with the manager, assuming he is competent enough to pick up the phone, and bears more responsibility and professionalism than the employees his associates couldn't bother to train properly. I was made to feel like a bother, not a paying customer. I do not believe I am over-exaggerating when I say my dignity was violated in a way I haven't experienced since my last and final trip to the local burger King, whereafter I learned they are notorious for making a sport out of spitting in customers' food. Next time, I will go to the Food City across the street. They have a better selection of groceries, anyway. read more
