Store is located just outside of Northumberland on Route 11, immediately next to the American Legion. Parking lot can get tight if the store is busy and it's built on a downhill slope, so unattended shopping carts can roll away. What will you find product wise? A decent fresh fruit/vegetable section. Frozen food section with a lot of discontinued products. Tons of canned good including bulk #10 cans. This location off season sells various fountain fireworks. They also have small kids toy selection. Compared to the Berwick store, this one feels like it has less stock in general. Why I knock a few stars off is you need to check expiration dates on EVERYTHING. No exceptions and at this store they are less well marked on items like cereal. Toiletries and other general pharmacy items are not competitively priced. Paper products have about the same quality as generic items at Dollar General (not great.) Overall, I like Surplus Outlet, and it's worth stopping in to see what they have.

The store is spacious for a discount grocer and had a large section of beauty and health products, more so than others. Many were damaged packaging or expired but that's to be expected. What I didn't expect was such a large and impressive freezer and produce section. Had I had more room in our travel trailer camper I would have bought a ton more! Prices were low and the selection was very broad and fully stocked. Ditto for the produce which looked to be in very good condition and not "seconds". Since discount grocers tend to carry discontinued products I did find several items I'll probably never find again, but at least I enjoyed them once! The staff on the floor was also helpful in directing me to the dept I was looking for. The cashier however had the personality of a slug, and when hubby and I tried to engage in conversation with her she made eye contact but no response. Four stars because although they had a cart wipe station the wipes were completely dried out. A sign at the door insisted there would be no entry unless masked. However a big family with a ton of kids (all touching stuff and a muck around the store) ignored the mask rule and were allowed entry. Also when I tried to go back Sunday on our way home to stock up they were closed. No Sunday hours is a huge let down.

Wanting to participate we found the closest grocery store to purchase ingredients for our dish. I know Weis Markets dominates other grocery chains in this area as this is where they originated. They're everywhere. We went to this Weis location because it was the closest. Pulling up we thought initially they were closed. The one window was covered by plywood and it looked dark inside. The exterior was very vintage, including the sign, which was probably from the 1950's from the font style. The parking lot, as was the store, was very small - the store being only about the size of a Dollar General. Despite their closed appearance they were indeed open. Walking in was like walking back in time and not in a good way. This store is all original (and one of the first per the cashier). It could be a cool factor if it didn't look so worn and run down. The interior needs some updating, is old and everything just outdated. The produce section was small, like what would be featured in a NYC bodega. Overall their inventory was limited and prices above the norm. If you are making basic meals the selection would suffice, but even then you'd be restricted by brands and selection. A bag of Doritos which I would normally pay $3.99 in Lancaster regular price was nearly $5 here. The generic version was the price of a bag of name brand back home. The cashier was nice, but this area was outdated and narrow. I was surprised that they even had a scanner and accepted plastic, as everything appeared original. I'd shop here in a pinch while camping, but for me personally if I lived here I'd drive further to the Giant in Selinsgrove. PS: The stock exterior photo from the business owner is clearly not this location.
