I sat there for about 5 mins, during which time, someone spilled soup on me AND someone tripped on my table and used my shoulder to catch themselves. I asked if I could move and he walked away or didn't understand, so I separated a table for 4 in the corner (so he could still use the other two seats), and then the male employee YELLED at me, across the restaurant saying that I "cannot sit there! Get up lady, get up! No no no!" He could still use the other table next to me, but continued to yell that I couldn't sit there. Another man tried to grab my food and move me. There were plenty of other tables open for 4 people, the restaurant was not that busy. These men should be ashamed to have treated a customer that way. He also tried to make me sit outside in the boiling hot sun, but perhaps put the imaginary group of 4 outside instead of someone who was inside and already eating? I have never seen a professional person yell at a customer - especially a solo female traveler! To top it off, there was a solo male customer sitting behind me, the exact same table arrangement, but no one yelled at him. Seems like they don't respect women eating by themselves. How rude, disrespectful and inappropriate. I hope this place is shut down. I will be telling everyone I know not to come here. Shame on you!

First, it should be noted that in February, the mushrooms in the Algarve are some of the best you'll ever taste -- meaty, full, long; chef's first dish, "Autumn" a riff on a dish his mother used to make for him, involves a delicate sous vide egg yolk that looks like a full hunter's moon and has enough body to retain its roundness but explodes across the mushrooms to bind them together in a delicious mix. The "Line Fish" was a smoked mackerel but so lightly smoked as to render the mackerel melt-in-the-mouth. It was one of the best fish preparations I've ever had. To a Western eye, the umbilicus plant, a type of pennywort, will look like a very very miniature nasturtium leaf. The middle three dishes had significant and strong umami, provided either through vinegar, citrus or garum -- all highly recommended although I preferred the lighter dishes. All dishes paired with meaningful and significant tableware clearly carefully and lovingly selected by Chef Brito. Stay at the Convent Pousada Tavira and walk 20 steps to A Ver Tavira -- you will not regret it. (Be advised, there is a 9 course tasting and a 7 course tasting -- choose according to your appetite and capability.)
