Mum's has an unique menu, not a place I'd normally try, but when on vacation one should explore. Their menu is vegetarian, it does though include fish. They have food combinations that are daring, out of the usual, but most importantly scrumptious. They serve fish caught fish, so the menu options change as to the fish; the night we were there they had fresh corvina, paired with lemon risotto, just lovely. We started with a carrot garnish/ purée, onto carrot bisque soup, mix green salad topped with sesame seeds and chickpeas, finishing with the corvina. Dessert was a muffin of sorts spilt in 2, the middle had strawberries & cream, while the top had been drizzled with brandy. Wine selection was good, local wines were well presented. If you're traveling thru Sagres it is a most stop. FYI - take cash, no credit cards accepted. read more

This was an excellent restaurant, more suited to couples or groups of friends. It is a perfect balance between laid back Portuguese vibe and contemporary gastronomic execution. Ran by a long time Sommelier, definitely worth visiting when in the area. I ordered their deep fried octopus dish with a barley risotto, I was told the octopus was caught wild off the coast 10 minutes down the road. It melted in my mouth like butter, easily the best executed octopus I've ever enjoyed. Will definitely be going back as the rest of the menu grasped my attention they are always coming up with new ideas. read more

Nice place, yes I do agree. Friendly welcome and service. Good English spoken. Disappointed about the small portions of the main dishes; they looked more like an appetiser, an expensive appetiser. Drinks are extremely expensive: bottle of tap water at 2€, glas of ice tea (more ice then tea) at 4€. As a conclusion: too expensive for what you get. read more

Mum's the word . . . Not a vegetarian. Or alternative hippy lover. Or keen on interior design props. I am a minimalist and a carnivor. But we had to try it, after more than a week of surfer shacks and plastic chairs under tl-light at so called traditional portugese restaurants. So we went there, at the end of the world; a vegetarian restaurant where you can order gluten-free. (Shoot me now . . . !) It was absolutely perfect . . . We (my wife and I) shared a precourse (couvert) which was great. My wife then had the tagliatele while I reluctantly ordered the vegetable strudel; both, again, perfect. Then I lost it. Boldly going where no carnivor ever went before, I ordered the tofu cheese cake (my the chocolate brownie. Wuss . . .). Absolutely delicious. With the right port wine to go with it, sugested by the nice but hardly underdstandable sommalier, it was a feast. When the check came it turned out we couldn't use plastic (damn hippies), so I had to go out to get cash. The owner told us 'no'. Bring it tomorrow. No questions asked. Excuse me?! (Hippies . . .) If you ever find yourself at the end of the world, go and have dinner here. It serves without a doubt the best food (and wine . . .) in the region. Don't tell anyone though. Excellent service and delicious food. We arrived at midnight and they happily accommodated us. We are not vegan or vegetarian, but he had the tuna and I had a vegetable strudel and everything was amazing. We overheard some other travelers telling the waiter they come every night because it's the best food in Sagres. I agree and would go further to say it also has the best ambiance (cozy, mod-chic, with literature and jazz influence). I wish I'd brought my camera or phone to take pictures of the presentation and post to here. Loved it! Let me preface this review by saying that I am not a vegan or vegetarian and that if you are this place is probably right up you're alley. The place is unusual in every sense of the word, which isn't a bad thing. It just seems that the place lacks identity. There are Jane Fonda books on the walls, old 70's televisions, and other oddities that really don't add much to the charm of the place. The wait staff was friendly but super sluggish and inattentive. We had three different people waiting on us throughout the night and ended up getting asked three different times if we were interested in desert before getting the check. It took two 1/2 hours to get through a basic meal for two. I had the lemon poppyseed pasta which was ok, but lacking substance and originality. It was really like an Alfredo with some lemon and poppyseed thrown in. My wife had the fettuccine do Mar which was decent but not memorable. The food was okay, I don't mean to harp on it, but it didn't wow us by any means. 90% of the menu items are vegan/vegetarian and they have no chicken, beef, pork etc. they did have two seafood options. The cocktails were awesome! Mohitos were out of this word good. I would go back just for that and a light appetizer for sure. It's another option in the area, but plan ahead to spend some time there. Also it was booked solid, so it would be prudent to call for a reservation before you just pop in and get turned away. read more

Mum's is a great spot for dinner in Sagres. Lots of delicious vegetarian, vegan, and fish options on the menu. Great wine list. The bartender came over with the wine and passionately explained it to us which was really engaging and delightful. Service otherwise was a little slow and a bit inattentive unless we caught one of the waitresses' attention. The deserts all looks amazing--we had the brownie and enjoyed it. Food was good but the owner has a bad understanding of customer service and really isn't good with people. I watched him rudely tell people he had no available tables when there were 8 empty ones that he said were "reserved" but then he started saying the times they were reserved and it made no sense as some of them were reserved for an hour to two hours away. We took our time and still ate our entire meal with a half empty restaurant because he kept turning people away. Call and make a reservation. read more
