Named for the restored stone built powder magazine from 1818, this lovely oasis sits astride the Charles river and and is home to a couple rowing clubs. There is a fair amount of parking and the trees were magnificent. Saw many people out and about enjoying the scene but it wasn't crowded. On the negative side, they're now pretty strict about their no food/drink policy, parking sucks for non-cambridge residents, the bathroom cleanliness ranges from alright to scary (depends on how crowded it is, like all DCR facilities) and if someone throws up (or does something else) they shut it down for the rest of the day. Tips: 1. if you're coming on a summer weekend when the odds of a kid dirtying the pool up are pretty high go right when it opens 2. Bring a handled bag to carry your stuff so you can hang it on the bathroom/changing room door because you don't want to think about it even touching the floor 3. Bring only what you can eat outside or keep a cooler in your car for leftovers. 4. Parking can be tricky and the TJ's lot tows so if you're a Cambridge resident with a sticker park on Magazine St. If you're not, have someone drop you off/pick you up or park in/take T to Central Sq. and take an Uber X there (about $5 one way) 5. Bring a chair. Laying on a towel on the concrete isn't so comfy and people swarm the few benches they have.

At first glance, this park seems ordinary. In fact, when we first moved to the area, I rarely took…read moremy daughter there. I figured it couldn't compete with the bigger, flashier, Albion park which is located right in the same neighborhood. Well, yes, Albion does have an amazing splash pad, and a huge piece of land, but because it's so spread out, it's just really not that intimate. Lexington Park on the other hand, is the perfect size. Not so big and spread out that you're constantly chasing your little ones and wearing your feet out, but big enough that the kids get lots of exercise. There are two climbing structures with slides, baby swings,big kid swings, a play house, and a basketball court (often occupied simultaneously by adults shooting hoops and preschoolers on scooters). In the summer, there is a small splash pad which has enough water that the kids LOVE it, but the water isn't very high, so they generally avoid getting soaked (unlike Albion park, where you may as well just go in a bathing suit every time). In addition to the park structures, there are always a bunch of ride-on toys and such that I assume have been donated to the park by parents. This park is awesome for both parents and kids. The sightlines are great for a parent watching more than one child, and the structures aren't overly big. Because the park is sort of divided up into three different sections, the kids have variety and can move from one area to the next to keep it exciting. But the best part of Lexington Park is the feeling of community. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. I almost always see at least a couple familiar faces there, and everyone is incredibly friendly. I've had some amazing conversations with other parents there, and my daughter always has a great time with the other kids. So, if you're new to the area, and you spot this park from the bike path, don't discount it like I initially did. Check it out. Especially around 4pm in the summer. Your kids will thank you. And you will probably become a regular.

They charge $100.00 for any dog from outside of Newton to use the park. The park is very muddy and appears to be in part in Brighton. (Elmhurst Rd is end of Newton). The Parks hired a park ranger to issue fines unless all dogs have permits. The dog license is $20.00 and excludes all use of public parks (Off leash)

This is a large park with a really nice playground and also access to great trails for walking. One…read morething that really sets the playground apart from others is the large sand pit with a huge selection of digger trucks and other sand toys that kids can use. The only downside is the playground is right by the water and not fenced in...the view of the water from the swings is very tempting to young children. Of course when I needed to help one child the other ran straight into the water. If there was a fence around the playground to make it easier to keep kids from running toward the water, I'd definitely give this place five stars.
