No. Nonono…read more I had suffered from an Achilles tendon strain and my doctor recommended RIRH and one other facility because of their location near me. I picked RIRH and I regret doing so. RIRH is a part of Landmark which has recently been bought by an out of region hospital chain . The facility itself is outdated , and much of the hospital has been shut down (MRI, XRAY, etc) and moved to Woonsocket . I came in with an open mind and tried to give them a chance. Some things right off the bat: Parking. Its no fun to walk in an air cast. The hospital isn't designed for outpatient services and it shows. If you need a cane to walk more than 50 yards, bring your cane. Signage for outpatient physicial therapy is nonexistent. Luckily the kind janitor was able to direct me to the basement. Outpatient PT seems like an afterthought. They do have a pool at least, which seems to be one of their big talking points. I had called for my first appointment and got attitude when I asked for evening appointments. I called on a Tuesday and couldn't be seen for over a week, with an appointment that wasn't in the evening (I was trying to be flexible.). Great way to start the healing process. As soon as I walked in to my first appointment I was given a list of appointments for the next 8 weeks. All on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I wish I had some input into that, and when I asked to change an appointment due to prior commitments, again, attitude. Billing is done off site, so there is no one to easily speak to if you have a question . If you do call, again, expect an attitude. I have hit my out of pocket this year. I received a letter from RIRH saying I would have a copay. I called to ask what was wrong so I could call my insurance and they said "well that is for your info only, so if your insurance says otherwise, disregard it.". Uh, what? These are all things I could be ok with, if the actual care provided was adequate . Now here's where the fun starts My first visit (eval) was awesome. John was thoughtful , explained what was going on, and answered all of the nitty gritty odd ball questions I had. He felt that my strain was due to tight calves and that if I didn't fix that, that the injury would keep happening . Awesome. TENS unit, some ultrasound , and I was optimistic for my next visit. Enter other physicial therapist. All they seemed to care about was my pain level and that we got everything done in 30 minutes (because that's how long the appointment could be, no more, no less.). I expressed my concern about my calves and they retorted "well I didn't do your evaluation so I don't know.". Great. That's great. Ultrasound, no tens unit, tape, stretching, and away I went. The next few appointments went like this. Again, concentrating on pain levels, not on prevention. I was having pain while doing my exercises at home and hearing a popping noise, and I couldn't get an answer as to why, or why this new symptom was occurring . Just "as long as it's not in extreme pain, I don't care that it's popping." I went back to my doctor, explained what had happened, asked about my calves , and he said he agreed , that it needed to be addressed . Also agreed that if I wanted to that I could find a new therapist. Gave me a new script, and I promptly cancelled the remaining appointments I had at RIRH. Please, go somewhere else, unless your health care provider has a specific reason why you must go to RIRH. I know others have done well with specific people here who specialize in certain things, but never again for me.

Not Even Your Worst Enemy …read more.. As a nurse with thirty years of experience, I have never encountered such blatantly unprofessional behaviour as with the staff at Rehab Hospital of RI. The staff were rude over the phone. They were "too busy" to discuss anything with the family member (who is, coincidentally, also a nurse), discharged the patient too early without a care plan in place, refused to discuss aftercare concerns two hours after the patient left saying "once you're discharged you're on your own". This patient could not walk unassisted, was released without an assistive device (a cane!). The most insane piece was two nurses assisting this patient down THREE FLIGHTS OF STAIRS because the elevator was broken. He was going to be discharged and they didn't want to wait for the elevator to be repaired. Absolutely the poorest care, the most unprofessional attitude. NOT recommended under any circumstances.

I had a close family member live here for almost 10 years, and the respect, care, and attention given to her was never there. My loved one was in situations where she fell and was hurt, and after pushing or pulling her emergency button/string, she would have to wait for a minimum of 2 1/2 hours before someone would check on her. I know this to be true, because I have pushed it myself, and it took them that long to respond. I was told by her that they would forget her meals, which is a huge concern because she had health issues that made eating a priority for her to be okay. Also, they shouldn't be forgetting anyone's meals...but every time I would complain or say something to an employee, they would reassure me they would take care of it, and then I would find out they never did. Her safety was always a concern for me because she was never in good hands that actually cared. After she passed I found a list she made of the days they forgot to bring her meals, and she stopped keeping track after a year of starting it. She would ask for help with small things every so often too. The employees would often say they would help, leave, and not return. They made her feel like a burden while living there. Her experience living at Madonna Manor breaks my heart because I know she deserved better, considering how much she was paying per month. Madonna Manor has different levels of care. I was told per their contract; they do evaluations to see if they need to go up a level. Going up a level means they would get more help with their daily tasks and the employees and nurses would be more hands on with her. I know she needed to go up a level, if not levels. She could not take care of herself. She was barely able to walk or get up. She couldnt read because her vision was going, and that affected her medicine intake. She was not able to bathe herself either and needed that help. I could see her quality of life starting to fade because of all of this. Once again, when i brought this to their attention, i was told they would take a look when they do their next evaluation. They NEVER upgraded her care. Madonna Manor kept her at Level 1, and failed her. When she passed and I went to her room to collect her things, I could tell where she died because they did not clean up. It was horrific and upsetting. We had to call multiple times about it too. They have no respect for the people living here, or their families. Madonna Manor does not deserve a 1 star rating, or your money.

I was sent there by the Landmark Hospital for rehab as I had spent almost a month in bed for a…read moreserious illness. Obviously I couldn't walk after all that time in bed. My problem was that the food was so bad I could barely eat bits and pieces. It was horrible. In any event I have a medication regiment that really needs to be taken at certain times and not 15 minutes later. What they do is they have Medtechs that passes out meds from room to room. The problem is that there are normally 2 patients per room. When they pass out the medication they also take the vital signs of both patients. It takes forever to get your medication. Many times once I could walk with a walker I would go over to the Medtech in the hallway and ask if I could get my meds. The good part is they always said yes. The Pt and Ot was the best. It was a very clean gym with excellent staff. One day while in the gym a trainer came up to me and asked if I wanted a haircut! I said "sure" because I really had messy hair and then she said " you want a shave?" I also agreed and she got a hot towel and gave me the best shave I ever had free. The reason for the three stars is because one night I had to go to the bathroom. I was able to go by myself with my walker. It was dark and I tried to get back to my bed and my walker's front right leg hit the corner of the bed and I fell hard against the floor and the wall on the left. It woke up my roommate and he said " what the hell is going on?" Really loud. I could not pull myself up off the floor so I crawled to my call button and started pushing the button. After a 15 minute delay a staff member came in and helped me back to my bed. It was so bad most places automatically send injured patients directly to the hospital ER. They never did that. The next morning they did an investigation as to what happened overnight. I told them the entire story and one nurse leaned on the bed and the bed moved away. The bed was not locked so when I fell the bed had moved away a bit. ( negligence) They never made sure my bed was locked. I had lower back pain and neck pain in the back of my neck. And I'm on Coumadin where a fall where you hit your head could easily cause brain bleed leading to a stroke or blood clot. I was never sent to the hospital next door to make sure I was ok. This happened a year ago and eventually I was discharged. Here it is a year later and I was forced to see a neurosurgeon for my lower back and neck pain. To make an already long story short. 3 MRI's showed a fractured lumbar 1 spine and 3 vertebrae in my neck damaged. I am now in nonstop pain not only in my neck and back. There was nerve damage everywhere. I even have permanent constipation and neuropathy in all my muscles. I can't bear the total body pain caused mostly from the damaged nerves that run up the spine to the brain. Many nerve signals don't reach my brain. In other words if I'm cold my body can't shiver. the message to the brain is through a pinched nerve so I have to have a blanket on even if the room is warm. I have been to a half dozen different doctors from the RI spine center to my PCP. I have to go to RI HOSPITAL on February 11 for a test procedure. My entire body is in pain all day and all night. It's so bad I wish I would die. I'm 72 and lived long enough but I'm hopeful some doctor can help me. I never sued the place for putting me in an unlocked bed and not having me checked out although I thought of it. Well got to go. I have another doctor's appointment tomorrow.

After the first therapy session, my pain level went from a 10 down to a 2 (on a scale in 1-10). During the 3 weeks following that session, I experienced 2 headaches that each lasted for part of a day and were treatable with ibuprofen. My jaw felt relaxed in a way that I hadn't felt in more than 10 years - the pain, pressure and tension were relieved.
