Inside, the store seemed pretty nice, clean and was pretty much a typical Vapiano - the staff spoke basic English, communicating wasn't difficult but being in a foreign country this is typical. I ordered the scampi risotto - For 148 SEK which is already pretty pricey, the portion size was ridiculous, unlike most risottos I've had from Vapiano from the past, this didn't fill the bowl and looked a little messy. The dish from appearance to taste just seemed lazy, the spring onions had been thrown on top cold (perhaps they forgot), meanwhile the tomato sauce the risotto was in had no positive impact on the dish, with the rice and carrots really hard - the same could even be said about the shrimp which I presume they used instead of traditional scampi - another big letdown. After complaining - they knocked the dish off my bill but still made me pay for my drink, considering I probably had one or two mouthfuls of my iced tea by the time I sent my food back and I'd have to go into another restauraunt and buy another drink, I don't feel still paying full price for my drink is right - obviously it's a good iced tea I'm willing to pay for it but I'd have much rather them waived by bill as a whole than gave me a voucher for a coffee next time I come in - which is around about the same price anyway so makes no sense, especially considering I have no intention to return to any branch of Vapiano in Sweden after two different bad experiences today. Vapiano is a chain, which means that this location really shouldn't be that unique. And yet it has somehow become iconic for me. It has carved out a niche. It's a landmark - quite literally. I frequently meet friends "by Vapiano", even if that's not where we are eating. Of course, we eat quite a lot at Vapiano, too! On a chill autumn evening there's nothing like strolling down Götgatan in the sunset, crossing the bridge to Gamla Stan, and ordering three freshly-made pizzas to share. Though I usually opt for the pasta. There are so many options! You can so simple and classic, with to-die-for pesto or simple tomato sauce, or something exotic and new like chicken pasta with ginger, mint, and chili...mmm! I've never been disappointed here. The food is made right in front of you, and you can choose your shape of pasta and everything. Even though it's always pretty crowded, there's lots of seating so I've never had trouble finding a place. There's not too much interaction with the staff but they have always seemed friendly enough. I've gone to Vapiano for birthdays, for casual lunches, and for spontaneous dinners. It's not super fancy, but it's much better than fast food - it's good for everything! Sort a shrug from the bartender at the Courtyard was the response. Then I mentioned Primo Ciao Ciao from the Yelp reviews. "It's a pizza and pasta place," he said. "Anything else Italian around that's good?" I asked. "Not really." This is the trouble when one is in a city one isn't acquainted with: where to get good food. One only has so many days in the place. One is bound to find some good ones and bad ones. Then came Yelp. Suddenly it was made easier? Really? So I set off on foot for Primo Ciao Ciao, maybe five blocks away. I noticed that few Swedes go against the red at street corners, even though auto traffic was nearly non-existant. They'd never get anywhere in NYC. I tried to follow their lead. I grew old waiting for the "walk" signal. I jaywalked. Dining alone this evening, I was looking for a place with a bar where I could eat and drink, perhaps talk with strangers. This wasn't it. The bar is more of an unused corner of the restaurant where customers can wait while their "take away" is being ginned up in the kitchen. It is not a bar where one goes to have a drink and a chat. I got a table near the entrance inside. The outside sidewalk seating was completely filled at half past eight in the evening. Inside was half full. "Is there a good house red?" I asked the prompt, efficient, friendly waiter. "Well, yes there is." He brought me a glass of the house red, Montepulciano, I think. Good enough. Having seen a favorable review from someone about the Isabel pizza, and being in the mood, I ordered. Before that arrived an unexpected "pizza salad" arrived, a bowl of a sort of cole slaw thing with vinegar and oil and perhaps a little salt and pepper. This must be a Swedish idea of cole slaw. I'm not sure it works. The pizza maker was fast, a pie in front of me in less than 10 minutes; with a thin crust--this is good, in my mind. It looked tasty, but something was amiss. Do Swedes not bring the pie already cut? Mine wasn't. But worse, the topping had nearly the consistency of stew. It was juicy. It made the crust soggy in no time. But maybe it is just the way things are done here. The tomato on the pizza was flavorless, like one might find in the grocery store that had been picked green and gassed to make it red. "Have you got a different red I might try?" He brought me three more to try. I settled on the third, though didn't finish it. The waiter had been right in bringing me the first one as the best one on hand. Persons very helpful here. Friendly. Probably won't return, but it wasn't the worse dining experience by any means. It would do in a pinch. Perhaps there are other things on the menu that they are known for here.

Upon entry, I was greeted by a very abrupt, Swedish waiter who began talking me to Swedish even when I shook my head, and tried to explain I don't understand - I really don't understand why he bothered me before I sat down when he knew I didn't speak Swedish, I understand there's a language barrier however I shown him my coupon and he even appeared to agree I didn't understand, yet still carried on. This branch of Vapiano is unusual in the sense, you order at a counter and pay with your card and then collect your food - you then take your card and pay as you leave as normal. I really dislike this concept because I like watching the people cook my food and the fact you have to go back and collect your food anyway - takes away the fact you can sit down and relax - table service with this method would make much more sense. I decided to order a panna cotta as I had been given a voucher for a free Dessert / Dolci by another store to try out at any location in Sweden which was the only reason I came into store while passing - I was sent from the counter to the bar which was confusing yet again (You order everything apart from alcohol and Dolci at the counter with no one even making the concept clear) Not only that - I found it really hard to get a menu as they were hidden away in a corner near the counter (Why wasn't I given one when I checked in as other stores do?) I hoped the issues I faced until actually getting my panna cotta would be over however they continued - the panna cotta was in a small pot so it didn't look as visually appealing and wasn't as easy to eat as it could have been - I'm not sure if it was the preparation or storage but the panna cotta was really runny and I got virtually no flavour - it was a bland mess.
