Across my travels, I've regularly been impressed with Vapiano across Europe especially in Germany and the Netherlands, and I hoped it could continue today with my trip to Stockholm however their branch located next to Gamla Stan metro station. The menu like most of Europe has gluten-free pizza and pasta and a better selection of risotto - sadly the Tonno which has been my favourite pizza at Vapiano for a while now has been discontinued as they try to promote shrimp/scampi over tuna with various new pizza. pasta and risotto dishes. Inside, the store seemed pretty nice, clean and was pretty much a typical Vapiano - the staff spoke basic English, communicating wasn't difficult but being in a foreign country this is typical. I ordered the scampi risotto - For 148 SEK which is already pretty pricey, the portion size was ridiculous, unlike most risottos I've had from Vapiano from the past, this didn't fill the bowl and looked a little messy. The dish from appearance to taste just seemed lazy, the spring onions had been thrown on top cold (perhaps they forgot), meanwhile the tomato sauce the risotto was in had no positive impact on the dish, with the rice and carrots really hard - the same could even be said about the shrimp which I presume they used instead of traditional scampi - another big letdown. After complaining - they knocked the dish off my bill but still made me pay for my drink, considering I probably had one or two mouthfuls of my iced tea by the time I sent my food back and I'd have to go into another restauraunt and buy another drink, I don't feel still paying full price for my drink is right - obviously it's a good iced tea I'm willing to pay for it but I'd have much rather them waived by bill as a whole than gave me a voucher for a coffee next time I come in - which is around about the same price anyway so makes no sense, especially considering I have no intention to return to any branch of Vapiano in Sweden after two different bad experiences today. I was really looking forward to checking out Vapiano again - my expectations were not only far from met but my expectations were shattered which was a real shame. 1* read more

Ah, Vapiano. First dates, fun with friends, and fresh herbs filling the air. I only have positive associations with this place! Vapiano is a chain, which means that this location really shouldn't be that unique. And yet it has somehow become iconic for me. It has carved out a niche. It's a landmark - quite literally. I frequently meet friends "by Vapiano", even if that's not where we are eating. Of course, we eat quite a lot at Vapiano, too! On a chill autumn evening there's nothing like strolling down Götgatan in the sunset, crossing the bridge to Gamla Stan, and ordering three freshly-made pizzas to share. Though I usually opt for the pasta. There are so many options! You can so simple and classic, with to-die-for pesto or simple tomato sauce, or something exotic and new like chicken pasta with ginger, mint, and chili...mmm! I've never been disappointed here. The food is made right in front of you, and you can choose your shape of pasta and everything. Even though it's always pretty crowded, there's lots of seating so I've never had trouble finding a place. There's not too much interaction with the staff but they have always seemed friendly enough. I've gone to Vapiano for birthdays, for casual lunches, and for spontaneous dinners. It's not super fancy, but it's much better than fast food - it's good for everything! If you want tasty fresh Italian food that won't break the bank, and a place where you can carry on a conversation with friends at normal speaking levels as you breath in delicious herby-air, this is it. read more

We visited this place with my family. (me, husband and two kids age 2,4) Place was really nicely decorated and had great vibe.. Service was nice and friendly. Place was clean and bright, little noisy, but not disturbingly. Customers were mainly local young and trendy people who has drop in for lunch. Service work like this: you get a card and can choose pizza, pasta, salad & antipasti. I had salad with shrimps and rest of my family went for pizza. Everybody was really happy with the food. There is Pasta, Pasta & Risotto on the menu. This were my first time at Vapiano since they started serving gluten free pasta and pizza. But they had run out of the gluten free pasta so I didn't get to try that option. The pricing is slightly higher than a standard, i don't know what to compare it to, Italian restaurant and in return you get a nice interior and a good location in Gamla Stan. This is not the place to get a takeaway pizza from, even though it is possible to do so, because you can get an equally good pizza at any pizzeria in town for a lower price. But it is a nice place to sit down for dinner. read more

Who knew Stockholm would have such authentic Italian food! I was really impressed with Vapiano. It's one of those places where you order at different stations and place the order on a card that you pay for at the end of your meal. So it's really fast and really tasty, can't really beat that. We tried the Margerihta pizza and one of the salads - both were delicious. They also have a cool bar inside where you can order coffee or an alcoholic beverage. There are windows everywhere which fills the restaurant with sunlight, it almost feels like you're eating on a patio. If you're doing any touring around Gamla Stan, there's no excuse to miss this place probably one of the better places for Italian food in Stockholm! read more

Once we figured out the ordering line system and the card to order (perhaps they should have a hostess giving instructions at the door...?) then it was a good experience. if you are a first timer, get a card from the cashier at the front. The cook will swipe it to record what you ordered to the cashier - you will return the card to her to check out. Also be sure to stand in the correct line since they are preparing the food from that line. Look up to see what the line is for -Pasta, Pizza... Nice to see the fresh ingredients being prepare for us right in front of us. Lovely set up. Our pasta dishes were big so we couldn't eat it all. Enjoyed the food very much. read more

Ah...Vapiano...how I LOVE you so. It's a bit confusing going there your first time...especially as an American. Vapiano has several locations throughout Stockholm and can be found in Berlin, Germany, as well. Getting to this location is easy...so easy...especially if you're taking the metro, exit off the Gamla Stan station and go to the left...when you exit, the restaurant is to the left once you exit out of the station and are on the street. Now, when inside.... First, you are given a restaurant 'card', then are seated. Along the sides of the restaurant, there are cooking stations - one for pizza, one for pasta and another for other cooked food. MAKE SURE YOU'VE GOT YOUR CARD WITH YOU! Second, you go to the one you want and wait in line...there are menus up at the front so be like me (pushy american) and snag one without saying excuse me or thank you. Hey, I've got to keep up the ugly American traveler thing, ok? Look over what you want and when it's your time to order, give your order to the person behind the counter. When they've repeated your order to you and it's what you want, TAKE YOUR CARD AND HOLD IT AGAINST THE MACHINE THAT'S THERE. Don't take it away until they say it's ok. Third, don't leave yet. You have to wait for your food to be cooked right in front of you. They ask what you want in your food if you're getting pasta. While you're waiting and they're cooking for you, grab a fork, knife, spoon, napkin and whatever else you need... Take your food back to your table -- look for the fresh basil plants so you can break some leaves off and toss it in your food if you find that is what you need. Need water? It's at the bar. Grab a glass that's next to the bar and pour yourself some, but don't take the whole pitcher/carafe. The Swedes will give you the death stare...not that I know anything about that... ;) When you're done, you take your card to the front - to the cashier/hostess. They run your card through and then you pay. That's it! I enjoy their bolognese as well as their prosciutto and fig pizza. They make a mighty fine pizza margherita, too. read more

Vapiano is great! Definitely my favorite fast food concept. This particular Vapiano sports a great venue near the metro and overall nice interior. It's slightly under-dimensioned as there's always lines (so not really adhering to that aspect of "fast food"). The biggest con is that Vapiano in Sweden is about 20% more expensive than the rest of Europe. There's no good explanation for that I guess... read more

Vapiano has perfected the most frustrating restaurant. Whilst the outside may look inviting, the interior does everything in its power to drive you away. I went with my partner and here was our experience. After being thrown some cards to register our orders we were lost in what to do next. We stood in a sea of people before we saw that you need to line up to order food. The lines break down into pizza, pasta and salad. The menus for eat section is at the front of each line, because reasons. I chose pasta whilst my partner wanted pizza. She had no queue so ordered and got a buzzer. I stood in line and waited for pasta. After waiting 15 mins in this line I was just about to place my order when the cook told me she was closing the station. This put me out of luck as now I needed to join the back of a 30 min line. By this time my girlfriend had her pizza which was undercooked, doughy and soggy with rubbery scampi on top. She had to sit alone whilst I queued. After a while I saw the station that was closing down was serving new customers. I decided not to give them my money and we left. I will never eat here again. This place was recommended in my Rick Steve's travel guide. It's right next to the train station and in my favorite neighborhood of Stockholm, so I visited twice on holiday. The set up for the restaurant is interesting as they don't have waiters, but instead every member of your group gets a card and you order from various stations (pizza, pasta, salad, bar, etc.) We got pizza both times and a salad. Both were reasonably priced and very tasty. They have rosemary and basil plants at the table, which is really neat. Definitely a great place for locals and tourists alike to enjoy! read more

It's German efficiency meets Italian cooking. The food at Vapiano is very good for the price you pay. This is a good place to go for an after work, as people can choose whether they want to eat or just drink and everyone can choose when and what to eat. It's not a good place to go for, say, a double date when you want your food at the same time because it's hard to time four people getting their food at the same time - especially if someone's having a salad or pizza. You can ask for extra of any ingredient, for example, when I order the Pasta Bolognese I always order extra meat for 15 SEK. The panna cotta is good for dessert. All in all, decent place! read more

I was not familiar with the Vapiano experience, since we don't have the concept in Belgium :( I have been to several places outside of Belgium where I could taste it but I never took that opportunity. Being here in Stockholm on my own is making me discover all kinds of things including restaurants. I came in at Vapiano and I didn't know what to expect. Luckily for me I had my fellow Belgian acquaintance Fernand, with me that day who has already been there. Apparently you had to stand in line and wait till its your turn to order so that your pizza or pasta can be prepared right in front of you: very nice! Sometimes the cook asks you what kind of additional spices you would like on your meal haha. Friendly cook and great service. Pasta is pasta: it's either very good or just average. My carbonara was good so I took little bites just to keep marinating in that nice taste :) Btw: you get a card at the entrance and you have to scan it wherever you get your meal, side and/or drink. At the end of your meal you give the card to the cashier at the exit, he/she scans it, you pay your total amount and off you go! read more

Great concept for Italian food as you place an order and watch a chefs make it as you wait. It tastes delicious, but be prepared to stand in line for several minutes. The cooks are very helpful and nice. Overall, it's a fun place with a good atmosphere and tasty food! read more

The food is pretty good, can't really complain. What kills it, are the long lines and waiting for the food could be just as long. They should find a way to either upgrade their in-line system, make the place bigger or other. I know that everything is made fresh in front of you but you have got to do something when your place is so popular and overpopulated with people. An Italian take on Wagamama's is what comes to mind with this place but with perhaps a little twist for the better. You queue up and order your food at the relevant place, pizza, pasta, salad, etc. it's made fresh in front of you and then you find yourself a seat. The tables are long and shared, so during busy times I can see it maybe hard to get a larger group seated. The food tasted great and it was freshly made and very reasonably priced, what more do you want/need? read more

No no no no I went here with 3 other people and waited over an hour for my food while the rest of my party already eaten theirs. Completely inefficient "restaurant"(if that's what you want to call it)/"cafeteria ". You get thrown a card to put your orders on and wait in different lines depending if you want salad/pasta/or pizza while they prepare your food. Then at the end you take your card to the register and pay. I'm sorry but if I'm going to get charged restaurant prices then I expect to be waited on! A stupid gimmick that made no sense. There should be a rule to 1 dish per person, not 1 person orders 5 things for their family. This place is horrible. Concept is you wait in line at different stations (apetizer/main/drinks) and bring your own food to your table. I just don't understand why people want to wait in line for 20-25 minutes to order you apetizer and then repeat!? If you do manage to go there outside of peak hours it's OK. Food ok, prices medium. This is a great place for lunch conveniently located right by the T-bana exit/entrance. The pasta is fresh and the combinations are really good. Cooked to order, and very generous portions. It's definitely a "fast casual" restaurant, but it succeeds very well in that regard. I've heard the pizza is also quite good, so we'll be happy to return and give that a try as well. While in Stockholm, we tried very hard not to overspend on food...that is a difficult task. Dining out is quite expensive relative to most of the U.S. Vapiano came as a recommendation from one of the people in our group. FANTASTIC choice! It was the best meal I had in the 4 days I was there (to be fair, we didn't go to any "high profile" places). You walk in and they give you a plastic debit style card. There are various stations from which to order; bar, pasta, pizza, desert, etc. You look at the menu, walk up and order...then watch them prepare your food (or go sit and wait if you like). I ordered the mushroom risotto...it was very good. Creamy, and mushroom-y...the texture of the risotto was perfect. I got it with a side salad. Price was very reasonable for that and for the beverages as well. At our table, we also had a pizza (not sure what kind) and the carbonara. Nothing was a disappointment (although mine was the best!) Try this place out for an affordable, taste worthy meal! I wish I had gone twice...as opposed to some of the other stuff I ate while there... read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat at when visiting Stockholm. The pizza melts in your mouth and there are so many options to choose from. The salads are fresh and again several options to choose from. Although I haven't personally eaten the pasta here, my family loves it. read more

This place deserves 0 stars I am absolutely disgusted. I'm from NYC and I was with my Swedish family looking to try this place for the first time and you had to be 18 and older but I was accompanying my younger cousin (15) and they kicked us out of the restaurant. We weren't even going to drink but just to have a simple meal, I heard a lot about the racist things going on but I didn't pay attention to that. There were families there with toddlers and babies and we got kicked out only cause there was a 15 year old with us. This is absolutely bizarre. Never going back and if I do decide to go back the only thing their going to get from me is the real New Yorker rudeness. read more

The whole structure of this restaurant is bizarre. I don't understand what's beneficial about having stations. I will say the pasta was good and the chef was very sweet. However, what truly bothered me was that 70% of the tables had used dishes just laying out on them. I was amazed by how many tables hadn't been cleared for new customers.. and meanwhile there were 4-5 employees just standing and chatting by the bar. It made it difficult to find a clean table and frustrating that the employees didn't seem to care. read more
