A little over a year ago, Dr. Carioscia had to perform a pretty serious bunionectomy on one of my feet. He has always been very thorough - both before the procedure and then afterwards - and has explained my options to me in a manner that isn't just "you should definitely have the surgery." Therefore, I felt very comfortable with my decision for him to perform the procedure. Because he was so meticulous in the physical therapy phase, my foot is pretty much like new again (i.e., I have regained most of my flexibility, although I get the occassional soreness and stiffness from time to time and I still have difficulty running). He is pretty adamant about wearing those nerdy orthotics and likes to give me a hard time when I come to his office wearing pointy-toed shoes, but that's his job. The surgery itself and the recovery is VERY painful (I'm afraid to go through with it again just because of the pain and the long recovery period, not to mention the issues with health insurance). I know I will eventually need to have another two or three surgeries performed, so I would most certainly go back to Dr. Carioscia. I have some friends who went to other doctors and still experience pain or did not heal properly. Your feet are something you don't want to mess around with.

I took my teenage daughter to Dr. O'Hanlon for what should have been a routine visit for two…read moreingrown toenails and a small plantar wart. Instead, it became the most upsetting medical appointment my daughter and I have ever experienced. Within minutes, he was recommending three procedures that same day: surgery on both ingrown toenails and surgical removal of the small plantar wart. There was no discussion of conservative treatment, no meaningful explanation of alternatives, and relentless pressure to consent to surgery immediately. When I asked whether the ingrown toenails and plantar wart could resolve on their own with less invasive treatment, explaining that mine had in the past, he simply kept insisting on immediate surgery. Every conversation led right back to surgery. I also asked how painful these procedures would be and was told he "can't say." When I asked again seeing how upset my daughter was becoming, he said "everyone's pain tolerance is different." I found that especially concerning given that he was recommending immediate surgery on a child without being able to meaningfully discuss a baseline of what she could reasonably expect. He warned that she could spread HPV "all over the place" and that the plantar wart could multiply into several more if we didn't proceed immediately, which felt like another fear-mongering tactic designed to shame my daughter and pressure us into consenting to surgery that day. When I said I would need to get another opinion because this is not at all what we expected, he told me I was making "a big mistake." We sought two additional medical opinions immediately. Our pediatrician recommended conservative treatment with Epsom salt soaks and antibiotics rather than immediate surgery. She noted that one toe was healing and the other one is in no way something that looks at risk for turning into sepsis nor was it something that needed immediate surgical intervention. She also thought that was not a valid concern for a young healthy child at this point and was startled by Dr. O'Hanlon's offering. My daughter's dermatologist told us she NEVER surgically removes plantar warts on the bottom of the foot because they can leave painful scars that may last a very long time and are better treated with conservative methods. She also said the assertion having one means she'd have multiple warts eventually is incorrect and one often does not become more. She also couldn't believe he was recommending three "painful" procedures the same day for a child. Both physicians felt these invasive procedures were completely unnecessary. What disturbed me most was how my daughter was treated. She became increasingly upset throughout the appointment, and rather than acknowledging her fear or trying to reassure her, Dr. O'Hanlon simply continued pushing for three same-day procedures. He did absolutely nothing to address her distress. There was no compassion, no patience, and no reassurance. His bedside manner is absolutely terrible. My daughter left the appointment in tears. His inappropriate discussion about reimbursement was another red flag. He explained he would only be paid about a quarter as much if the procedures were performed the same day. Bringing up his own compensation while aggressively recommending three same-day procedures was not something I've ever experienced in what is supposed to be a professional medical environment. The office itself left a poor impression. It appeared somewhat rundown, and there were dirty bottles containing some type of solution sitting on the exam room countertop. After reading other reviews, I noticed one reviewer described Dr. O'Hanlon as "a butcher." After our visit, I can absolutely understand what that reviewer was saying. I shudder to think how many patients have felt the same pressure we did and agreed to invasive procedures they otherwise may have questioned. I really cannot understand how this doctor has any patients at all. What should have been a straightforward office visit turned into a frightening and completely unnecessary ordeal. We were absolutely steamrolled toward three invasive procedures that two other physicians later advised were inappropriate given my daughter's condition. In fact, they were both quite shocked. I have never taken one of my children to a specialist without first going through our pediatrician. Lesson learned. I will never make that mistake again. Coincidentally, the pediatrician's nurse recounted a very similar situation she had with Dr. O'Hanlon two years prior regarding her grandmother's care. She said he got into a "screaming match" with her. I'm sure there are many other stories like these based on what we both experienced. Dr. O'Hanlon has the worst bedside manner of any doctor I have ever encountered. I would never trust him with one of my children again, and I strongly encourage parents or anyone to seek a second opinion before agreeing to any invasive procedure he recommends.

During follow up appointments, he did not offer any real exploration of the cause of the pain, and he brushed me off without offering help of any kind. After 2 years of physical therapy and 4 years of pain, I found an orthopedic surgeon at HSS who diagnosed that Weinfeld performed the surgery with my foot in the wrong position. THIS IS INEXCUSABLE. I do NOT recommend Weinfeld for surgery.

Then the pain become more intense and it started bothering me when I was just walking. I decided to see a doctor and went to Mt. Kisco Medical Group, where I met Dr. Glenn Weinfeld. Dr. Glenn Weinfeld did a few X-rays and within an hour he diagnosed the problem and the next week performed surgery on my foot in Ambulatory Surgery Center of Westchester in Mt. Kisco. The level of the attention and the professionalism of my doctor, anesthesiologist, nurses, and the staff exceeded all my expectations. After the surgery I was able to walk out on my own, and I did not take a single pain killer since I left the Surgery Center. I'm writing this review to share with the community the extra mile Dr. Peters went to see to it…read morethat the orthotics he prescribed for me work well and are comfortable for me. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I had a lot of trouble adjusting to the orthotics for my left foot. I received the initial pair in August 2014, and had to come back to Dr. Peters roughly five or six times over the subsequent nine months. I certainly wished the troubles I had were not so time-consuming, but what was appreciated was that despite this, Dr. Peters spent the extra time and worked on adjustments to ensure I was comfortable. Further, he agreed not to charge me any co-pays, and as the calendar year changed (and my insurance deductible kicked in), Dr. Peters agreed not to charge me at all for the final few appointments. He was committed to making sure the orthotics worked for me, even without earning additional fees for the added services. I am appreciative of the high level of care Dr. Peters continues to provide even though, at this point, the economics for him and his office are unfavorable. The extra care goes a long way, and I am happy to share this experience with the community since I know we often complain about patient care elsewhere.

He was very helpful in explaining the root cause and how my foot works. I am feeling a lot better now that I am doing stretches and have orthotics. Also, it's worth noting that he helped advise me on what over-the-counter orthotics to try, since my insurance doesn't cover them. He even helped me to custom fit them to my feet with adhesive pads, during a follow up appointment. The first time I went the waiting room was very busy and the staff did seem a little stressed that day, but the next time I made sure to get an early morning appointment and everything was much better. I don't blame anyone for that. I just know that I prefer to go early when it's quieter.
