I sold a piece of inherited farm land in December 2022 and Williams Law Firm handled the closing…read more After the HUD-1 settlement sheet was prepared, Andy Farr stepped in and said that I had to sign an AV-3 form and have $5059.42 withheld to pay deferred Present Use Value taxes for the previous three years. He assured me that this was a procedural step and that the funds would be returned to me once the new owner enrolled the land in the PUV tax program ... probably in 4-6 weeks. About six weeks after the closing, I reached out to the Williams Law Firm to ask about the refund. They gave me a song & dance story about contacting the Catawba County Tax Office attorney about the issue but never got an answer for me. So, I contacted Brian Myers at the tax office and he said there was no provision for refunding those taxes and never has been. He added that the AV-3 form was a "voluntary" payment of those deferred taxes and that I was not required to pay them at the closing. After learning this, I contacted Beth Williams and she has not returned my calls or emails. As it turns out, she is a personal friend with the buyer. I suspect that Beth had Andy Farr add this to the closing as a favor to her friend. My recommendation is that you NEVER trust this law firm to handle a closing!

Do not recommend unless they can create a sense of urgency in completing documents in a timely manner and talking to clients. Walking away completely confused and upset.

Moving ahead it did matter. Another lawyer had to correct the mistakes of their law firm which was discovered by a real estate state lawyer. It was corrected free of charge n I was told my agreement was done so basic that she had not seen nothing quite like that . I thought I was protected after I paid for this law firm to draw up paperwork for me I really was not . The real estate lawyer corrected the mistake on the paperwork n had it recorded free of charge acknowledging it was not my error it was the law firms . This was the Hickory office . At the lenoir office before I knew what I knew I sent my bf there to consult with Mr.White months went by never got no answer to the real estate questions , going on year two still not heard anything so I guess they are "still" Looking into it and at this rate my bf will be 60 before he ever gets an answer . I would never recommend this law firm. Unfortunately I had to deal with the other real estate lawyer on my late father's estate and if I had not I would have never known about their half a$$ work. Do not go to this law firm , never again. Heads up it doesn't take two years to research a deed !

When reporting to the titling company and GIS this attorney office failed to report the lot next to it as being purchased by us as well. I first contacted them on May 8th to report the issue, the lot I'm supposed to own and that I'm paying for, is in someone else's name still. Every time I call them it's like I have to start over explaining myself the issue to these people, have been told "well we've just been super busy". By telling me that, you're basically telling me your other clients are more important. They even lied to my wife and said "our phones was down an entire week". I guess they could care less considering they've already collected their money on the closing. I wouldn't use this attorney office for nothing, I hated to post this review but enough is enough, nothing else is motivating these people to help us now since they've already got our money.
