I was hurriedly badgered into ordering like it's a line out the door whilst being he only gawd damn customer in the place. I was hesitant to get anything as I saw fruit flies in the jelly donut area of the display case but eventually ordered a kolache and a dozen glazed. As I turned I saw a huge American cockroach walk from behind a table and make its way towards the front door. That freaked me out but I do understand that it's Texas and even the cleanest of homes/businesses will get an American or two. Complete my transaction and notice the cockroach has now crawled up the door frame of the front door. I push it open slowly as not to have fly on me and as I start to walk out one of the ladies that was handling food behind the counter swats at it and eventually knocks it down with her gloved hand. I walk to my car and place the food on the roof and start to open my door. I see the same woman go directly back to her task without changing the damn gloves she touched a cockroach with seconds earlier. I picked up the food and immediately dumped it all in the trash. I am now a TRUE BELIEVER that this bakery has THE BEST DONUTS in Houston, if not in Texas... I, by all means, should have never liked this bakery at ALL! I originally judged the bakery so much that I had determined that it was going to be awful before I ever ate any or EVEN WENT INTO the shop. I figured it was just a misleading marketing tool and refused to give them any wiggle room for any errors. (Quick relevant sidenote... i was on the hunt to find the best Donut shop in Houston with some friends so I literally felt like I needed to be serious to get the best results for my search outcome.) i truly set myself up to hate this bakery but I had such a good experience that it has NOW taken over as mine (AND MY FRIENDS) ALL TIME FAVORITE DONUT SHOP in Houston, and Possibly the best Donut in Texas not even exaggerating a little bit. The bakery shop location was originally a little tough to spot while on 1960 especially during HEAVY TRAFFIC times. Their shop is right across the street from the shopping center that houses the Italiano restaurant and green automotive store. They are also next to the java coffee shop and a little salon shop for hair/nails. They are the last shop located in that shopping plaza and literally have some windows that will face out looking directly into the trees/wooded surrounding. Don't be discouraged if you had a little trouble finding them on your own. Give the bakery a call and ask. The people have GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE and truly give GREAT SERVICE. They are ALWAYS FRIENDLY with EVERY CUSTOMER and TAKE PRIDE IN what they make and serve! Need to have an order held...? Call in advance and set it up. They really have gone out of their way to make sure that I've been able to have a good quality experience every time. The chef takes so much pride in their baked goods that I've seen them throw out a full batch of donuts and remake the entire batch all bc the batch wasn't up to par. IVE NEVER SEEN THAT AT ANY OTHER BAKERY OR DONUT SHOP!! Their staff has also asked me about my experience bc they wanted to VERIFY that I've been having quality baked goods and are enjoying them! door dashed some donuts and kolaches at my kiddos request while i worked from home. the donuts…read morearen't terrible, but i've only managed to struggle through one. i chose the "maple" one from the technicolor assortment. the donut itself was pleasant enough. not dry, not stale. had a nice chew. but that's where it ends. the glaze was so sugary sweet it literally made my teeth hurt. not to mention it didn't taste like maple. at all. not even a whisper could be detected. maybe my expectations are too high, i have yet to find decent donuts in tx. out of 12 donuts not a twist, nor filled, not even a regular glazed! for $20 is wild. i also got a jalapeno kolache. which was edible but bland. meh.
