I love this hike! I've done it two different ways (one time starting on the SE side and the others starting on the N side) and I've got to say the N side is considerably easier. The SE side felt like you were carving your own path up the mountain.. literally climbing rocks and such.. whereas the N side is less steep and can even be done by kids. The view at the top is *spectacular* as you are 2400ft above ground level.
I've done the annual Summer Solstice hike a couple times now and it is one of the many highlights to being up here on travel in June.. memorable.. great view.. great workout.. and maybe a beer at the top! yeah!
FYI: just make sure you check in with the posters at the entrance to the N side since they oftentimes do military operations (this is a military training area, btw) and they post the times and warnings.
Another FYI: WEAR BUG-SPRAY in June/July/etc... or else!... or else you'll look like me!!! read more
