My tour bus stopped in this town for lunch during a day-long trip along the Great Ocean Road. The tour guide gave us an oral run down of the options for lunch, and she was super enthusiastic about Dooley's for dessert. And OMG, was she right on point. She mentioned that they had won awards for their ice cream, and I believe she said that included an award for best chocolate ice cream in the region or maybe even in the country. After grabbing pizza elsewhere, my niece and I walked over to Dooley's. The wall was full of awards for all kinds of flavors. They let you taste the ice creams, and even though the chocolate was supposed to be the best, I saw they had passionfruit ice cream -- one of my favorite flavors of all time, so I tasted that. It was AMAZING. So much so that I ordered the passiongruit instead of the choolcate. I could eat that every day. My niece had blackberry ice cream and really liked it too. There wasn't much of a line when we were there around lunch-time on a Monday. Service moved quickly and with a smile, even when some people wanted to taste multiple flavors. If Dooley's were in my home town, I'd probably be at least 10 pounds heavier. read more

After dinner, we walked over to Dooley's Premium Ice Cream. They've won many awards for their flavours, which they proudly display all over their shop. Apparently, the count is at 378 awards and 30 trophies. We dropped in on a Wednesday evening (around 8:15pm). The inside is small but there's four seats outside to sit at. There's about 40 flavours to choose from (sorbet and gelato). Some unique ones were Vegemite and champagne sorbet. Price is a bit on the steeper side. $5.00 for 1 scoop, $8.00 for 2 scoops and $11.00 AUD for 3 scoops. The tubs are more on par with other ice cream shops ($12.00 AUD for 500ml and $22.00 AUD for 1L). Service is friendly and patient. They let us sample quite a few flavours; love how you can sample two at a time. - 500ml tub ($12.00 AUD) - their tubs are small pints of ice cream so when you get three flavours, they're layered on top of one another. Different from all the other ice cream/gelato spots. We went with chestnut (fantastic), lychee (fresh and fruity) and blood orange (a tad too sweet for my tastes). Definitely worth a stop on your GOR drive. Tasty, unique flavours. read more

Great place to to get delicious ice cream! They have a ton of different flavors, all of which seem to have won some special award. I ordered the Honey Malt and I was pleasantly surprised by the strong taste of honey mixed throughout the vanilla ice cream. It wasn't too overwhelming or heavy of honey either, which makes it great. The best part are the honeycomb pieces that added a fantastic crunch to the ice cream. A little bit pricier for a scoop of ice cream, but the unique flavors and portion sizes make it worthwhile. read more

I was kind of skeptical when I went here as I was on a day trip along the Great Ocean Road, The tour guide stated it was the best ice cream in all of Australia and had won plenty of awards. As soon as we headed there for our stop over the line up was insane! There was people out the door and down the street. I waited patiently and when it was my turn I got way too excited and didn't know what to order, luckily they do let you sample their delicious creamy wares! Because I'm very indecisive, I had to pick 3 flavors so I choose : butterscotch, liquorice and good oils chocolate. INCREDIBLE! And worth the wait! The wait time I'd say was less than five minutes as they have a few staff members on and they've got really good customer service. I would recommend this place to anyone and it's worth the wait! Amazingly creamy and flavorful ice creams. While touring the Great Ocean Road we tried several flavors, including Cointreau, Milo, and Vegemite (!), but settled on a couple scoops of vanilla and chocolate. This is a great stopover on the Great Ocean Road tour. Their wall is covered with all the award winning flavours of ice cream that they have created. I am usually a creature of habit and order either tiramisu, chocolate, or cookies & cream. They had a kiwi icecream that I had to try. It really tasted as good as it looked. My SO had this honey and white chocolate concoction. The server offered a free sample - presumably because some may find it funky tasting but my SO liked it. The only challenge with the shop is that there is no real line up but 3 servers offering to help you so you are relying on an honour system to ensure you are served when it's your turn. This is the best lemon curd icecream I have ever had!! It smooth and the taste is amazing! This is one spot you have to go and try it's such a great find. Our tour guide on the Great Ocean Road would not stop raving about this spot! So during our lunch break, we had to check it out. I've never seen so many awards for an ice cream shop before. I'm talking rows upon rows of awards. The best part is, it really did live up to its reputation. There were so many options to choose from, including some unique flavors I've never seen before. I loved that they also display how many and which awards each flavor has won. I stood there and sampled a few flavors before I ultimately decided I loved the chocolate hazelnut ice cream. But still remember when I walked in just for another ice cream, yet shocked by the wall of awards won by this tiny unstylish shop.
