This was a pretty cool destination. I grew up here & have never heard of this place. Great photo op!

The door to nowhere or what I always known as the Heigold Facade is a massive mansion front only piece of Lousiville history that is the center point of where river road and Frankfort ave connect near the waterfront. This facade has long and historic history and was actually once the legit front of the mansion that housed several high profile people during its time. This is a really popular destination and photo op here in our city. Very popular destination for local photographers due to its uniqueness and Beauty. Overall very cool and fun place to check out that has carved itself out a nice place in our cities history books.

    Heigold House, Louisville

This is the very definition of "local flavor." The Heigold House is located along River Road opposite Thurston Park and has endured countless floods. But its origin goes back a long ways. Christian Heigold immigrated to Louisville from Germany in 1850 and settled in The Point, a neighborhood along the Ohio River east of downtown. He was a stonecutter and used those skills to adorn the facade of his home with images of his family and busts of famous Americans including Presidents James Buchanan and George Washington. As is usual, Atlas Obscura provides much detail into the house and the times of Mr. Heigold, particularly the anti-immigrant sentiment of Louisville in the 1800s. See https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/heigold-house. There are proper parking lots about a half-mile away. I quickly stopped my car in the marine shop nearby and grabbed my pictures before anyone could make a thing. [Review 13583 overall, 902 of 2020.]

Great pit stop if you see coming through if you want to see some history in a beautiful setting!

While I was looking around Yelp for things to do while in Louisville, I found Door to Nowhere. We were in town for Bourbon & Beyond in September 2016, were driving around in the area, so of course we had to stop to take pics! Yeah, it probably a "Must Do" for tourists!

After all the bourbon and amazing food on our vacation to Louisville, we needed to do something that didn't involve either. We found the Door To Nowhere on Yelp and thought, why not? You can park up the road at a nearby park and mosey on up here. It's historic and pretty cool. And...maybe just a little bit creepy? I wandered through the door, slipped behind the facade and feigned terror in the hopes the mister would think it was an actual portal to... ....you know...somewhere scary. He didn't buy it though. There's a plaque that tells ya all about it the doorway and why it's here (more historical and interesting than creepy). The grounds around the doorway are kept gardened and when we were there had blooms. A fun little diversion if you're ever in the area! Get to it!

This little oddball is interesting to look at. I feel like it was pretty and fascinating! It's free! Parking is scarce. You want to be careful when approaching it because cars use this as a roundabout. But still .. a must see!

5 stars! Everything you hoped this would be! For A little glimpse into what this is I took this from a quick google search: "The Heigold facade or, "Door to Nowhere," and the Padgett House are the last remaining relics of what once must have been a glorious place to live. While very pretty, the Door to Nowhere is kind of sad once you know the history. It's one of the last pieces left of almost an entire century of Louisville history and beauty." It's apparently not in its original location but it's still a pretty cool site if you're in town visiting I highly recommend checking it out!

The Door To Nowhere is such an awesome piece of history, and it's an amazing piece of public art! It's super easy to check this piece out, either while driving by, walking, or stopping to walk around and really check it out up close. It's located in a really accessible area. We visited recently on our scooters, and the spring flowers definitely add to the beautiful scene. If you haven't made it to the "Door" to check it out, I highly recommend it!

Great photo op! But the average person probably only needs to spend 10-30 minutes playing photo shoot here. We actually went here twice on the same day because we wanted to get photos in different lighting. We were the only ones there for the two times that we visited so we didn't have to compete with others to take pictures. Get yo obligatory Instagram photo! ;P

Actually, at 30-feet tall, Louisville's David is almost twice the size of Michelangelo's original masterpiece in Florence Italy and it's all in gold... well, it's actually spray-painted with a gaudy gold paint... and made of styrofoam or fiberglass (not sure) but certainly not Italian marble LoL! The giant golden statue stands outside in front of 21C Museum Hotel on Main Street (who, btw, also owns the statue) which probably turns heads in downtown Louisville... the statue was one of many kinds of street art and statues on Main Street.
