Although this pool is a lot cheaper for residents (and free for senior citizens in Dormont like my grandma) there are still people all over Pittsburgh who don't even live in Dormont but will pay extra to get passes to go to this pool because they prefer it that much more than any other pool in the Pittsburgh area. Not only is this pool the biggest pool in the city but it is (from what I heard) the biggest pool in the state of PA. With that said, there is usually plenty of space to swim as long as you are not going on the weekends when it is super hot. They also really did the best they could with staffing considering the fact that there is a prominent lifeguard shortage in Pittsburgh. I like it because of the scenic view with the trees all around it, the fact that they allow you to use rafts everywhere in the pool except for the small section of the side for people who do laps, and how they play music on the loud speakers all day long. They also have a lot of opportunities to socialize here with other people because of how many people can fit in this pool although you also don't need to. It is also a great pool if you have children. The child section of the pool takes up about 75% of the surface area and it allows you to gradually build up your tolerance to the water temperature as it has water that goes up to every level of your body. They have a very slow moving slide, a small duck slide for very little babies, a volleyball net and raining mushroom. read more

I grew up about three blocks from the pool and went there just about every day in the summers of my school years. I even worked there in the locker room a couple of summers. I moved to California 55 years ago and haven't been to the pool since then. The pool was built in 1929 but underwent significant improvements a few years ago. I recommend spending a day there before it closes until next summer. read more

I drive 20 mins across a bridge just to go to this pool! 1) it's huge 2) you can bring your own floaties/rafts 3) it has an awesome swirling slide not just for kids. Many adults enjoy it as well. 4) staff is very friendly. I used to go to north park pool but they have become very strict. I like to sit on the side with my feet in the water and they said I couldn't do that anymore :( but not Dormont pool ! They have a cool slope into the water you can lay/sit all day on. Been to Avonworth Pool and they told my young niece she couldn't wear her face mask goggles ! But not Dormont Pool!! So happy to have found this pool. They even provide chairs ! read more

This is an outstanding public pool a couple of miles south of Downtown Pittsburgh. It's usually open Memorial - Labor Day weekends. Go in at 6pm for only $2.50 per person, or get a season pass at the Dormont Borough office. The passes are cheaper if you're a resident but anyone can buy a pass no matter which city you're in. Because it's about the size of a football field, even the times when it's "crowded," everyone still has plenty of room. They filter the water frequently so it always seems pretty clean. The bathrooms / showers / changing rooms leave a lot to be desired so we change/shower at home. Because there are no steps, it's easy to get in and out of the water even if if you have injuries. Depth goes from 0" in the shallow end to 9' in the deep end; it's one long gentle slope. A dedicated fitness swimming lane is about 40 yards long and about 5 yard wide, and the giant slide draws all ages - literally - plus a cute little ducky slide for the tikes. Free floatation vests for all ages make it easy for everyone to get into the water; people also bring inflatable rafts, tubes, balls, etc. Free parking is available in the lot; in 8 years we've never had to park on the street. There is a concession stand, and a DQ across the street. read more

I write this in a state of total lobster like redness. Disclaimer: Don't worry, at the end I will promote safe SPF procedures! I've forever passed this pool in the summer and longingly looked over at the gloriously refreshing looking water. Why has it taken me this long to visit? I have no excuse! This should have happened ages ago because I love being at the pool and I don't have room for a kiddie pool in my backyard. I think maybe my ONE excuse would have been that I was terrified the pool would be full of screaming, wild, peeing in the pool type kids. And while it is...it's WAAAAAAAY over on the other end of this humongo pool. We took a prime spot right by the deep end where it's a peaceful, mostly adult type setting. THANK GAWD. I laid, i dipped, I dived, I swam....I even took a plunge down the water slide (amidst other 13 and unders). I thoroughly enjoyed watching the youngins' (Yes, I'm 80 years old) take their "deep end" test where they had to swim from one end of the pool to the other without stopping. If they passed, it meant they were allowed to swim in the deep end. It was fun cheering on the kids who were trying to pass it. I mean, could I have even passed right now?? Ummmm...probably not. I'll stick to lounging around. For $6 a visit this is a steal compared to a $30 mystic tan that will last 10 days. OK, now for my disclaimer that everyone probably knows already... REAPPLY! Had so much fun swimming here on a hot Saturday. The pool is gigantic and didn't feel crowded even with a lot of people and kids swimming. The edges slope in, so you can wade into the water or sit on the side. They have a small water slide and a few water features in the shallow/kids wading area. The greatest depth is only 9 feet, so no diving boards. There doesn't really seem to be a good place to swim laps, at least during peak family swim hours. But again, this pool is HUGE so you could probably swim laps and not bother anyone. The pool was generally clean, except for some leaves and twigs where trees lean over it. The major downside is that the poolside grassy area is pretty small, on a relatively steep slope and right next to a busy street. Lots of road noise, though they try to block it by blasting a fun pop music mix. Though the pool is right next to the park, there isn't any space in the pool area itself to spread out and play catch or something. Pretty crowded. The bathhouse is no frills - not gross, but not somewhere I'd want to hang out. It's a historic building, which presents some issues, such as the fact that men and women must pass through separate locker room areas to get to the pool. There doesn't seem to be an option to get to the pool without walking through the locker room. read more

Even though we live on the east end of the city, we take the trip to the Dormont pool to enjoy the sun (trust me, its not an easy trip.. on weekends its a bus ride to town, subway ride and then a 10-15min walk downhill- uphill on the way back) I like this pool because its so large! The pool was packed yesterday for Memorial Day, yet you couldn't even tell because of how spread out everyone was- oh and maybe because 75% weren't in the pool and just sunbathing over in the grass. Yeah, you could tell the the capacity by looking at the sidelines but we did find spot all the way in the back which was fine. I think the slide is super cool and even though its not "fast" you still get to enjoy a waterslide at a swimming pool. There is also a volleyball net to enjoy and play some v-ball. The shallow end has that adorable mushroom fountain it's just all around a nice pool... minus all of the leaves and flowers from the surrounding trees but hey what can ya do? Oh, and kudos to the snack shack employees. That line didnt end yesterday and there were just people complaining here and there, but they still kept a friendly smile on their face :) read more

Since I've become a resident of the Dormont area, I fancy the idea of a pool named after it. The Dormont Pool is legit. Imitators beware. First off, the actual pool is huge. One can use the slide, (which isn't exclusively fun for children,) swim some laps, or dive off their platform of a diving board all in the same body of water. The Dormont Pool has free wifi which is awesome, but for a $6 fee every time, it's kind of expected. Not gonna lie. I wish the diving board had some more bounce, even though I know the pool has to be deeper than like 12 feet, I'm just saying. Plus, the entrance fee is kind of ifffyy. I mean if you're not a babysitter, how much time do you really spend at a pool. I'm thinking like 2 hours max. Maybe that's just me. read more

One of the best things about Dormont pool is that you don't have to be a resident to get in. You pay a smidge more than residents but it is totally worth it. The dressing rooms are big. That is a bonus for people with little kids. It's also nice that you can take pretty much into the pool-inflatable chairs, coolers, chairs or loungers. The pool is huge. It's one of the biggest pools I have ever seen. The pool provides life jackets for all ages. In the shallow end of the pool there is a yellow duck slide and a blue and white mushroom that has water that pours over it like a waterfall. In the middle of the pool there is a huge slide. It loops twice. It's open to kids and adults. If you are more about fitness/exercise they have a a section of the pool roped off to swim laps. The pool goes all the way to 9 feet deep. The first time I went to this pool I felt like a kid in the candy store. I was used to Pittsburgh Public Pools and didn't expect much more from this one. First of all, it's huge. I went on Memorial Day weekend - even though there were tons of people, there was plenty of space. The pool and facilities are incredibly clean and well maintained. The pool also has some books that you can borrow, wifi, a snack bar, chairs, and you're allowed to bring in whatever chairs or flotation devices you want. For the extra few bucks compared to Pittsburgh Public Pools, this is well worth it. I've already been back multiple times. Absolutely zero complaints! read more

I have no idea why I waited so long to check this out, but the Dormont Pool is awesome! I couldn't argue with "free" on Memorial Day, and it was 92 humid degrees, so I took the plunge. Packed up my towel and sunscreen and headed for the pool, just like everyone else in town. The pool is huge, with plenty of room for everyone. The 5-9ft deep end is big enough with room to spare, and the vibe is chill. While I wish that there could be room to spread out a towel on both sides of the pool (one side is cement/wooded), I didn't have much trouble finding a shady spot. Honestly, I didn't spend much time on the grass, anyway. The pool was way too inviting on that sunny day. Check it out! Adults are $6 for the day and $2.50 after 5pm. I don't visit many public pools considering I have a pool in my own backyard. However, due to opening ours a little late this year, we decided to head to Dormont Pool on a hot day. It's six bucks to get in which is reasonable and the concessions are cheap as well. You can get a decent amount of snacks for the same price of admission. Another positive is the friendly staff! They're all people from the neighborhood who take pride in their pool and rec center. The best part of this pool is the fact that they allow rafts. No other public pools in the area let you use them so it's this is a huge perk. While it's nice to float, the water is freezing! Like, I'm talking cooooold! We went a week or so after opening so I'm sure it takes awhile for it to heat up, especially since the pool is so massive. Aside from the water, the pool is in okay condition. Nothing spectacular. The sidewalks were made with a gravel/stone-like concrete so it's hard on your feet and the bottom of the pool is a little cracked so you should watch your step. They also placed the pool next to a bunch of trees so you'll find many leaves floating around. There is a large amount of room to lay out, however the grass is a little rough. Not bad to spend a few hours in the day, however this is nothing like the amazing Mt. Lebanon pool. For a dollar more you will get a better experience, however they don't allow rafts which prevents us from visiting. read more

Dormont Pool is the best. I'm a non-resident so it's $7 to get in, but still an outstanding deal! I always make sure to get there right at noon when they open to get a parking spot (the lot is small considering the size of the pool) and a good place on the grass. There are a few Adirondack chairs scattered around that you can claim on a first-come, first-serve basis. They usually have music playing and there is free Wi-Fi, which is always a plus in my book. Great pool. I love the fact that you can just walk into the water. This makes it a more pleasant experience for when you have kids with you or if you want to lay out next to the water. The far end of the pool is a spacious shallow end, with plenty of room for little ones to play and have a good time with the duck slide and mushroom falls. The "big people" slide is also fun. The deep end is fun to jump in, however they had to take out the diving boards a few years back because of regulation issues. The life guards are on point! I've seen them in action a few times and they do a great job! They provide life jackets for all ages as well. The grass area is large, so you can find a spot to lay out. I recommend bringing a beach chair, because the chairs they provide are usually taken ( they do not charge for the chairs). You can also bring a chair to lay out next to the walk in slopes poolside. Water floats are also welcome. The only thing I wish they'd do more is clean the bottom of the pool, especially the shallow area. The front desk also provides baby swimming diapers for 50 cents. The snack bar is affordable, cash only. Non resident cost for adults is $7, non res kids $5. Resident adults is $6 and res kids $4. After 6pm the cost is $2.50! Just voted best community pool in Pittsburgh! You'll find the regular pool amenities: shallow and deep ends, lap lane, diving board and snack bar. They also have a slide, mushroom fountain, slide and ample "lawn" to sunbathe and relax. The community "pooled" (ha ha!) together to raise money to repair and save. The staff is friendly, helpful and keeps the pool in tip-top shape. read more

Been coming here since I was a kid. As an adult the pool still holds the same charm it did when I was 10 years old.

Not sure what more you can want or need for a community pool. I went a few times last summer and paid the non resident admission which was reasonable. Parking is easy, some chairs are available and there are shaded areas. read more

big huge pool along banksville road . old . check out the historic black & white pictures in the entrance . nearly closed due to high over-head costs but the community stopped that from happening and the summer pass fees are pretty expensive, especially if you're not a resident of Dormont as I am not . have to look at it as a charitable donation to keep this pool open another year , I guess . cheaper to get in, after 6:00 pm.
