We brought a large party to Wintzell's, and everything from start to finish was excellent! Our…read moreserver April was outstanding -- friendly, attentive, and handled our big group with ease. The food was fantastic! The shrimp bacon wraps were a huge hit -- perfectly cooked and full of flavor -- and the oyster sampler was a must-try for anyone who loves fresh seafood.

The grass was high and the landscape beds were full of weeds. There was no "open" sign on the outside of the building. I walked in and the place was empty other than a lady who greeted me and sat me at a table. The floor was dirty and felt greasy. The menu she handed me felt dirty also. She was friendly, and asked what I'd like to drink. I ordered a water and a cup of seafood gumbo and a butterfly fried shrimp plate with fried okra and red beans and rice. She brought out the gumbo, but with no crackers, then disappeared. I got up to look for her with no luck. So I waited. The next time I saw her she was carrying out my shrimp platter. I asked her for crackers and she immediately retrieved some. She asked if I needed anything else, and I said no. The shrimp tasted fresh like it had come from the gulf. I asked her the shrimps country of origin and she went to ask the chef. She came back out and said it was gulf shrimp, which I could tell. The gumbo was very good, but a cup wasn't worth the $8.99 I paid for it. The okra was just frozen breaded okra. The hushpuppies were thick and heavy, not very good. The red beans and rice was tasty and made with alot of sausage in it. Small portion. During the meal I asked to see a menu again, and again it felt greasy and dirty. I ordered the appetizer crab cakes. When they came out, they looked bulky and the outside was hard. I'd say they were from a frozen bag and deep fried. I took one bite and it did not taste good, so I didn't eat them. I ordered the bread pudding for dessert and was disappointed. It was thick and hard, and not very good as bread puddings go. It certainly wasn't made recently. All in all I was disappointed with my meal and experience. I'd eaten at a Winzells Oyster house in Guntersville, AL before (delicious) and it just seemed like this Greenville, AL location was subpar in store presentation and cleanliness, food quality, and service. I would not recommend it unless positive changes were made across the board. My total cost was $60.98. I've included some photos.

Shrimp were delisioso! Catfish strips were acceptable (I liked them more than I expected to). Potato salad and slaw are homemade ... and quite yummy. Hush puppies were mighty fine! Ambiance: most tables were taken and apparently filled with locals with lots of catching up to do... and do... and do. Sure got quiet after everyone left (and I was not pressured to leave). Extra: there's a geocache in their parking lot! Who could ask for anything more Service bonus: waitress was especially kind and sweet and helpful and courteous.

Coming and going to and from the games can become pretty boring. We like to mix it up a bit and take highways instead of the interstate. We choose different ones to keep it interesting. One of our trips took us through Greensboro Alabama and we were hungry. I looked online at the restaurant options and found M&M Mustang Oil Restaurant was a meat and three type of restaurant with southern food. That's right up our Alabama hearts. We headed that way. Did ya know that Greensboro Alabama is the Alabama Catfish Capital? No?....... Yep! So guess what I just had to have! Good ole USofA raised Mud Cat! It was delicious! That was almost a year ago and we have been going back ever since. This was our third time to go. I have had the catfish plate and the Po-Boy. Helen gets either 3-4 of the sides or the catfish plate which comes with two sides plus hush puppies or cornbread. We also have had the Cheese Logs and the Fried Mushrooms. Everything is delicious! The Cheese Logs are by far the best cheese sticks we have ever had. Talk about molten cheese! Mary (server and cook) uses pepper jack to make the logs. They are slap your grandma good! Onion rings-terrific. The coleslaw is too. If I had to find something it would be that I like my purple hull peas cooked down, way down, like all day cooked down. These are good but just not how I eat them. One last thing. Every one of the tables has home preserved peppers on them. The juice goes great on the cornbread and the peas. Even the coleslaw is better with it. I dare ya to pull a pepper or two out and pop em in your mouth! Especially the tiny sport peppers. They will burn you twice, coming AND going, if ya know what I mean. Go on, don't fret about what it looks like inside or out. You are going to get some delicious food and you will thank me later. Do not forget the catfish. Unless it is an off day it will be the best you have plopped into your mouth!
