The four stars are just for the phenomenal sauces that accompany the food. My god, they are delicious. Spicy but not overwhelmingly so. The negative star and possibly more would be for the shitty young waitress we had Saturday that mostly scowled the entire time we were there that served us and others. Yet another one of her colleagues, an Eastern European girl, was very sweet. I got the plain dosas with chutneys and an idli order with chutneys and sambathar. My husband got the chicken kothu. The portions are pretty good for the cheap prices and we left feeling full. Also glad water is provided at the table. But that waitress my god. I would avoid returning just for her unpleasantness. read more

Visited Dosa n Chutny since I had been there many times few years ago. I was very surprised by the clean, new decor with a south Indian touch. They serve authentic south Indian food items like dosa, vada, idli etc. - tastes like one would taste in Chennai, India. They do have some north Indian dishes too but try their specialties first. We ordered different kinds of dosa, vada sambar, rasa vada. All were spicy hot and temperature hot and mouth- watering. The whole peppers in the vada or the rava dosa added to the authenticity. Yum-O! What a delightful find. Though my server couldnt understand half the thing I was saying, food far surpeassed my expectations, and was super reasonable. Got the a) Tandoori Chicken (moist and delicious) b) Idli - soft as clouds and delicious hot sambar 3) Rava Masala Dosa - soo crispy and lovely - yum 4) Dessert - Gulab Jamun with masala tea. So I've been to quite a few dosa places and this one was disappointing. Very basic - as one would expect, however the service was terrible. The waiters were moody and rude. We had to ask them several times for tap water before they gave it to us. The food was okay, the dosa wasn't as crispy as it should have been and the sauce (sambhar) that they give you wasn't enough. Ohhhhh yes! First time I have tried dosas and we loved them. The food here is really, really tasty. Great flavours. Good menu. This is a no frills South Indian place but the food is tasty, authentic and super cheap! I like the mutton rolls and the dosas .. They used to do a fantastic lunch special thali but unfortunately that is not on offer anymore :( Make sure you get a chai to end your meal. read more

We had a delicious meal here. I don't remember what the dishes were exactly but we had a potato dosa, one lamb and one chicken curry plus a saag paneer. The best was the lamb which came on the bone and the saag was creamy and delicious. The chicken curry was good but made with boneless breast meat which is never that interesting. Our waiter was attentive but when we asked him what his favourite dishes were to provide some suggestions, he wasn't very helpful. He kept saying saying generalities like 'chicken and lamb curries' which isn't very helpful! read more

What a find! Delicious and inexpensive. We'd never been before and were hoping to tap up the waiter for some insider knowledge. However, being polite, he smiled at whatever we ordered. And we ordered quite a lot. We shared a dosa and somosas and a whole host of other fun stuff. To be honest, it all blended into one delicious memory, but I think if you go with an open mind and empty tummy you're bound to find something you like. Dosa 'N' Chutny seemed to be attracting loads of South Asian customers so I followed the crowds to this South Indian and Sri Lankan joint. I only intended to pop in for a dosa but seeing how cheap everything was, I went a bit mad and ordered two starters and a main. Oh come on, the samosas only cost £1 and they were homemade. My second starter was the weekend special of tandoori quail (£2.95) and this was a superstar of a dish. Charred on the outside, juicy and succulent inside, and infused with the spices throughout, this quail had been marinated properly and cooked to perfection. I'd forgotten that dishes from the tandoor could taste this good. I don't know why they gave me cutlery, as this was definitely a job for hands. Quite possibly, one of the best dishes I've eaten since I started blogging. For my main, I decided not to go for a dosa and instead went for kothu, a Tamil dish that isn't all that common in London. I went for the chicken kothu partotha (£4.25), which consists of chopped parotha (aka paratha) with chicken, egg, vegetables and spices cooked on a tawa, a kind of griddle. When asked about the spice level, I mistook the question as a challenge to my masculinity so I demanded hot. With hindsight, this was a mistake as it was slightly too spicy for my liking. It was tasty though and I liked the contrasting textures but it did get samey after a while. This was probably due to the generous portion size and I couldn't finish it off. What an interesting place. I have a feeling if I was South Indian, that I would give this place 5 stars. Service was friendly and quick, but this place is more hole in the wall than fine dining. The food is quite cheap. Dossas for less than £4 is unheard of. I was surprised that my chilli and coriander dossa didn't have potato filling. I assumed all dossas have that but perhaps I haven't eaten authentic before? I don't know. Just that if you happen to be craving South Indian food in the area, give this place a try. Cheap and cheerful. Their dosas are excellent. Crisp, tasty and filling. It's very workmanlike hard furniture, basic cutlery., but it's clean and cheap. I went to the restaurant simply to order a takeaway. You would think that the process was simple but because of the staff it was a disaster. I was treated rudely and they swore at me. When i went to collect my food (after twenty minutes) they said that they had given my food to another customer because i returned later than ten minutes. I expressed my frustration and asked to speak to the manager and the man i spoke to lied and said he was the manager even though he had denied it before. Before I knew it, 5 members of staff had encircled me and were swearing at me because I had sworn once to express my frustration but after I tried to rationalise myself and the situation, they weren't having it. If you are a woman of ethnic origin, do not go there alone. They are misogynistic, chauvinistic bullies who swear and do not uphold good customer service. Their response was to intimidate me and ban me from the restaurant because I tried to stick up for myself. Had I been a 6'2 male i doubt they would have the courage to do so.
