Dr. Schaeffer is a pediatric pulmonologist and provides quality care for young asthmatics that far exceeds most specialty care in this area and even his home office in Jacksonville. Dr. Schaeffer takes his time and answers any questions you might have and gives the next steps to improve breathing moving forward. Although the main phone number links to the phone representatives in Jacksonville, your calls and requests are always answered expeditiously.

God forbid your child's health require weekend attention or inquiries, you'll need to agree to a $25 fee to place a call to the doctor. On another occasion, I called over the weekend to cancel my child's appointment for Monday as she fell ill over the weekend. They charged the $25 fee. This is ridiculous. I think this office forgets about their obligation to health first. I'm from California. I have received care from Cedars Sinai and doctors in Beverly Hills . This is added fee for a phone call is distasteful and comes off as arrogant. Another mother had warned me that they felt this practice thought too highly of themselves and forgot about the nobility of their profession: to care for children. Unfortunately, I share that perspective now. Skip. I have found other pediatricians within the area that seem to have their footing firmly placed on providing genuine care for our children. Look around, this office is easy to replace . It's okay to call your doctor on the weekend and the typical office will offer a call center and a doctors response if it warranty an immediate reply.

The cost of treatment is HIGHLY inflated and not worth the abuse you get from this staff. They are taking advantage of the area that they are in. For example, a general appointment is $170, however, another pediatrician down the road was $90. The issue I have is that they refuse to authorize my pharmacy to a refill of a prescription for a low dose statin that their Dr. prescribed (for a one year term refilled every 90 days) without seeing me and getting new labs - In other words, they want me to pay for an appointment and new labs that my insurance will only cover once per year....because their employee left. But they have the labs, which is what providers use to determine whether the prescription is warranted. Statins are literally the most prescribed medication in the US and they have all the evidence to validate a simple refill but are trying to force me to pay a significant out of pocket expense to get it.
