We visited on a chilly February evening and all the fireplaces were in use. I love it when there is a fire, the aroma just adds to the ambience. We had the Bruschetta, which was quite marvelous. Very tasty. There is a wine list, but it used to be better. A bunch of lower tier options, with a smattering of maybe 4 quality bottles. We did order a bottle of the house red, and it is sweet, flat, and heavy. My wife gave up on her glass and got a house Cab Sauv, which wasn't much better. We should have gone with the Stag's Leap Cab like she wanted. Dinner was the Filet Mignon and the Steak and Cake. The Filet was excellent and the Maryland Crab Cake was delicious. The Steak with the crab was good, but underwhelming. Desert was a strawberry chocolate cake. It was good. Overall. Great place, great ambiance, good waitress, and good food. Final price was @$217 plan accordingly. That said, we planned and were looking forward to splurging. Yes, I should have splurged more for the better wine too We will be back.

Within the tavern you're greeted with original artichetic from the 19th Centurary. If you're interested in seeing the tools they used to build it, they're on display! With an ambiance that screams romance, the candle lit dinner certainly sets the mood. The food does not leave you wanting. You can taste the natural flavors that are complimented and enhanced by great seasoning. I've personally come to love the bruschetta and the beef wellington. Their staff leaves no room for desire! While I'm not a big alcohol fan myself, I've found that their staff is great at accomidating this fact. I have no idea what was in my drink, but I can only describe the taste like a raspberry tootsie pop. This is a restuarant worth revisting over and over.

Is it pricey and worth the price - maybe once Ina big while or just simple visit to lounge or outside patio for coffee/desserts would suffice

With it being a romantic holiday at a romantic restaurant, I would have thought the restaurant might have done somethihg extra special for its guests that evening, but that wasn't the case. The restaurant is beautiful with some rooms definitely being more impressive than other rooms. The service was a bit inconsistent. Our primary server was charming and fairly humorous, however, at the end of the meal, he made an error regarding the cost of my friend's wine. When notified of the mistake, he returned with the "fix" that was still incorrect. Ultimately after some back and forth, he acknowledged that a change was made to the cost by the restaurant that he wasn't aware of, and charged the correct amount and provided an apology. With the end of the meal ending on somewhat of a sour note, I thought perhaps he would have comped the dessert, but no such luck. Our entire table of 4 thought the quality of our meals were mediocre to good, which unfortunately was very disappointing considering the price point. The highlight of the meal were the cocktails which were definitely very good.

To our surprise the wait staff was very attentive keeping our drinks refilled, they never ran empty, when it came to our appetizer and our food they were always asking how it was, if we needed anything else. the wait staff are amazing and if not for just the food being great we would definitely dine here again. The food was immaculate, we had the deep fried pickles appetizer and I will tell you straight from the heart I've never had fried pickles as delicious as these were, not even Quaker Steak has pickles this delicious. 10/10 We each ordered the Philly cheesesteak, hers with the garlic aoli and mine without, and I have to say we were both surprised at how delicious, savory, and tender the steak was. This is the type of dining experience we have expected but have never gotten to witness. Barrel 33 has really out done themselves. The only problem I had and I'm sure my wife probably had was the Ambiance, the music was great, but the lighting was terrible it was difficult to read the menus and I was almost at the point where I was going to turn on the flashlight on my phone to read what was available but it's nothing to complain about, these old tired eyes just don't see very well anymore and it's not their fault. yes I would have liked a little more light to see, but I get it, the feel they were going for, which makes the overall dining experience enjoyable and pleasant. Thank you Barrel 33 for a great evening out with my babydoll. we will definitely visit again.

I decided to try out their meatball stuffed bread and a double chocolate brownie. The stuffed bread was really good! I ordered a small, and the size was decent, especially for the affordable price. It's packed with a ton of meatballs that are definitely high quality and likely made in house. The red sauce inside is also really tasty and savory. They pack the stuffed bread with an adequate amount of cheese (although I would have liked a tad more). The bread itself is also just really good. Packaged really well. I definitely recommend it. They sell desserts from Kimi's Konfections. I originally ordered a nutella brownie, and they had called me twice to say it was out of stock but I wasn't around my phone unfortunately. They replaced the brownie with a double chocolate one, and it was pretty good. Rich, very chocolatey, and the portion was awesome for the price. Little bit too much powdered sugar and I would have preferred it to be moister, but still good. All in all, I'm really glad we have this place in New Kensington. The food's got a homey feel to it. Definitely try their Stromboli-like stuffed bread and tasty desserts.
