I dined at this fine dining restaurant on Valentine's Day with my husband and another couple. Unfortunately, we were all pretty underwhelmed considering this place is supposed to be "fine dining." With it being a romantic holiday at a romantic restaurant, I would have thought the restaurant might have done somethihg extra special for its guests that evening, but that wasn't the case. The restaurant is beautiful with some rooms definitely being more impressive than other rooms. The service was a bit inconsistent. Our primary server was charming and fairly humorous, however, at the end of the meal, he made an error regarding the cost of my friend's wine. When notified of the mistake, he returned with the "fix" that was still incorrect. Ultimately after some back and forth, he acknowledged that a change was made to the cost by the restaurant that he wasn't aware of, and charged the correct amount and provided an apology. With the end of the meal ending on somewhat of a sour note, I thought perhaps he would have comped the dessert, but no such luck. Our entire table of 4 thought the quality of our meals were mediocre to good, which unfortunately was very disappointing considering the price point. Cru Uncorked is probably the first place we've been to in Cleveland that lived up to the label of "fine dining". Our server was extremely knowledgeable about each of the dishes; I only wished we listened to more of her recommendations because the one dish we got that was among the ones she recommended was absolutely divine (soup of the day, which was a zucchini soup). She recommended each person get 3 courses, so that's what we did. The complimentary bread was probably the least memorable dish we had. It consisted of a slice of french bread, cranberry/walnut bread, and asiago bread. The bread was a bit hard and chewy for my taste. It was served alongside a port wine infused butter, which sounded nice in concept, but was unexpectedly bland. As for our remaining dishes... First Course: - Vol-au-vent Escargot - Soup of the day Second Course: - Seared Foie Gras - Crabmeat Saint Francis Third Course: - Coriander Duck Breast - Filet Au Poivre Dessert: Gateau Au Chocolat Unsurprisingly, the foie gras was my favorite, with the soup of the day being the unexpected close second. Every dish was perfectly executed and highlighted the best of each seasonal ingredient. The part that went wrong for me was getting multiple dishes with an apple component, which lost its magic pretty quickly; as such, I lamented at the lost potential of each dish. As for dessert, I highly recommend the Gateau Au Chocolat to all chocolate lovers out there. From the light cream to the dense cake, every part was unbelievably rich in chocolate flavor. The hazelnut crumble made it especially delightful. All in all, I'd dare say that the food was the best food I've had in Cleveland in all the years I've been here. Similarly, the ambiance was both cozy and elegant. The restaurant was divided into "little dining rooms", each with 4-5 tables and a fireplace, which is a real improvement from some upscale places where you still can't hold a proper conversation without yelling. I wish I had pictures, but the food was so good I ate it before I remembered! We chose this restaurant for my daughter's 15th birthday, and it was perfect. They gave the teens their own table, and our waitress took great care of both groups -- super kind, patient, and helpful. They brought bread and a little cheese-filled pastry puff before the meal, which was delicious. I had the octopus with risotto and the filet au poivre, which melted in my mouth. We also ordered the house truffle pasta, and I instantly wished I'd gotten it as my main. My daughter loved her burger too. Beautiful atmosphere, great service, amazing food. Everything you would expect from a high-end dining experience! The service was impeccable. Each one of the staff members we encountered was extremely professional and welcoming. The main dining areas are elegant and intimate. Perfect for a date or special occasion. I have heard that the patio is delightful as well. We sat in the bar and were extremely impressed by the knowledgeable bartender who expertly crafted perfect cocktails, and was able to expertly suggest different wines throughout the night. My husband and I were very excited to celebrate our anniversary here, unfortunately the food just fell very flat. The ambiance is beautiful and our waiter was nice. Unfortunately that was the only pros of our dinner. We started off with some cocktails--I got the caipirinha and the while we're young and both cocktails just fell flat so ended up with a basic glass of champagne instead. They started us off with complimentary bread and infused butter--the butter tasted like stale fridge and extremely unpalatable. The food we ordered all tasted quite lackluster. This was my first time dining at Crux, and while the food itself was excellent -- flavorful, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with care -- I did find the portions embarrassingly small for the price. Still, the wonderful taste helped make up for that. What truly ruined the experience, however, was the condition of the glassware. Every single glass we were given -- including the wine, beer, brandy, and water glasses -- had a strong odor that resembled sewer water. Throughout our meal, we asked for new glasses four different times in the hopes that the smell would be gone once our bottled water was poured in, but unfortunately, every replacement glass had the same foul odor. The bottle of water itself did not smell. I even took it home and poured it into one of my own glasses to be certain, and there was no odor whatsoever. This confirmed that the problem came from your glassware. I'm not sure what your glasses are being washed in, but the smell was so unpleasant and nauseating that it overshadowed what should have been a lovely dining experience. For such a high-end restaurant, this kind of sanitation issue is deeply concerning and reflects a serious oversight by management. It's very disappointing that my first visit -- and a birthday celebration -- was tainted by something so preventable. I have been to cru two times and both times have been spectacular. Each season the menu changes, so if something sounds good get it then or it will be gone next visit. The service is always good, but depending on the time you may find it takes longer to get the food. I would suggest going earlier if you don't want to sit for a while. My friend and I were craving desserts and I knew Cru Uncorked was a hidden gem with this sort of thing. So were seated in a secluded area as requested on our reservation. Our waiter was amazingly thoughtful and kind. Excellent service from his end! He took my friends nut allergy into account and was trying his best to be as accommodating as possible. I also greatly appreciated the list of non alcoholic drinks! My friend thought her cappuccino was great! The chocolate stone was very rich and the mocha ice cream in a cone tasted great as well. Although, the $18 price seemed like a little too much for such a small serving. Although, I know the ambience is fine dining and should be expected. We came to celebrate my friends belated birthday and they were very kind and accommodating with a crème brûlée with a candle to blow out! It seemed there was a private wine tasting taking place in one of the private rooms. Probably one of the nicest appointed restaurants in town. Beautiful building, elegant room and tables. Perfect for a major celebration. Service was very attentive without being over bearing. Food selection is somewhat limited which is expected for a high-end establishment. I had the halibut with sauce verjus, golden raisins, capers, marcona almonds, pommes purée. Incredible. My wife had the trout with lemon, capers, romanesco, broccoli purée, pavé potatoes, beurre noisette. Also fantastic. The wine list is probably the best in town, although most of the selections by the bottle are out of my price range. Wife had a glass of white, I had a whiskey sour (not on menu) and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc with dinner. The selections by the glass were just ok. Nothing really that special. Portion sizes were decent, maybe even a little larger than I expected. They offered us dessert on the house for our anniversary but we declined. We just don't like taking anything we don't pay for. Nice gesture though. The general manager came thru stopped at everyone's table making sure everyone was satisfied. All in all a fantastic dining experience. Dinner here was a surprise in the best way! The ambiance is very nice, upscale, and even a little homey. We sat inside but had a great view of one of the outdoor patios. I would definitely like to come back and enjoy the outdoor space on a sunny day. The service started out a little slow as we sat for 5-10 minutes without receiving menus. However, our very personable waitress and the kind support staff made up for this little hiccup. Our waitress provided background on the restaurant, the menu, and excellent recommendations. I visited cru twice. The first time was great with my boyfriend. I thought it would be a great place to bring my mom for her birthday. So I took my mom for the second visit. Now I'm sorry to my mom I did so. Since my first visit was indoor, I made a reservation for their patio seat. The ambience was great, but I noticed the servers looked tired. No smile and slow service. The young server bringing bread was diligent and kind, but the main server made us to wait a long time. I think it took us 30 min to get some napkins. Food was good, and I tried to make sure my mom is having a good time. We saw a manager was greeting and talking with other tables - Except our table. Looking around, I realized we are the only people of color. My mom is even thinking the manager is racist. I tried to make an eye contact with him, but he simply ignored us. He walked around in the patio several times and never stopped at our table. I've been to so many Michelins star restaurants as a fine dining frequent visiter, and never had this kind of negligence. My mom ordered a stake, and she was surprised there's no stake knife. The knife we were given is a regular bread knife. I asked the server they have a stake knife. He smirked. He told us there's no other stake knife and if wanted, he would slice the stake for my mom. We said no thanks. If you are white, you won't have any problem. If you are non-white, I don't recommend you to experience this kind of racist negligence. The food and drinks are good - but I'm telling you they are not even close to Michelin star level. But I want to note that other employees were great, especially the valet people. It's just sad that their boss is a racist. read more

Elegant. Beautifully presented food that tasted delicious. Wait staff were friendly, helpful explaining the dishes, and spoke when spoken to. We had a reservation after golfing, so we cleaned up and went. So having a glass of wine and relaxing in the fine quiet room was perfect. We weren't rushed, and enjoyed our meal with starters Cru Greens and Spanish octopus. I've eaten a lot of octopus, and I liked this version, crispy on the outside and tender when chewing. The seasoning was not hot, but tasty. For entrees Hubby had the duck, which he liked. I had the Arctic Char. It was tender with large flakes. The peas in the lemon thyme butter sauce were delicious. What an experience. The restaurant was tasteful and reasonably comfortable. Nice ambiance. We had to use valet parking, but at a place like this, it seems par for the course. Our server Al was wonderful. Not only is he quite knowledgeable, but the man is unfailingly kind. He added to the experience as much as the food. Speaking of: Fair warning - the prices here are up there, to be prepared to easily spend a couple hundred dollars on dinner for two. But know that you're paying for quality and creativity. Quantities are reasonable, and presentation is attractive. The other thing to note here is speed - or rather, the intentional lack thereof. There is a purposeful slowness here. You don't feel compelled to clear your plate and free up the table, and the courses are delivered with enough time in between that you do yourself a disservice if you don't take the time to appreciate the food. You can be here for two hours. Enjoy it. Overall, this is truly one of those rare "special occasions" places. We may only come once or twice each year, but I'd recommend Cru to anyone. read more

It is hard not to have high expectations in a top-tier restaurant and it seemed like things were off; bummer for such a fancy place with a big reputation. Full disclosure; this was during COVID times and staff seemed limited. We were seated and didn't have a visit from a server for at least 10 minutes, which seemed like a long time to be greeted and for a drink order to be taken. Escargot: insane Bread basket: devoured Dessert: shared and we all had a taste Wine Cellar: they took us on a tour to see the incredible wine selections available. We have visited Cru a number of times. This time we were not impressed with the menu selection, but being that we came from out of town, we decided to keep our reservation. The space is beautiful and the service is professional. It is not noisy. We shared the beet soup and crab salad. Both were fine. My wife's sea bass was good, whereas my duck was less than adequate in taste and preparation. We do not care for the black plates (depressing and black does not show off the food) and we do not like our food served in bowls. They have an extensive wine list, very expensive. We bought $90 bottle of wine. The wine glasses were of mediocre quality, clunkier than the ones we use at our home. It made us wonder if they use that same glass when someone purchases a $500 bottle of wine. And I would love for this to be a regular spot that we eat at all the time but it's completely prohibitive. Really great presentations on all the dishes and the flavors were there. The scallops were phenomenal. The soup was great and we loved the fresh bread and butter. The only issue was the service. Not sure if it was an off night but our server, Jersey, was not on top of things. Very slow to get menus, cold and off putting, talked really fast and loudly. Hate to say it but ruined the experience for us. Ive never left a 1 star review and feel guilty doing so but it seems like this place could have it all if the service was different. I ate here with some friends last month. The design and space is gorgeous.They have a really cool hallway where they store all their wine and they display really interesting bottles. My friend said they have hundreds more in a cellar under the restaurant. I love the art and fresh flowers in the entrance. food is amazing. I think the chef trained in france. My first time here and had an excellent experience. Came here for date night with hubby. The ambiance is good for a variety of occasions. There is a dark lounge type area for small gatherings. There is a bar area for a bit of a causal bite. We were seated in a large room with lots of natural light that was more formal. The staff were really kind, and service was timely. We got cocktails, which were yummy. We didn't try their wines this time, but will plan on doing that next time. We had the lamb tartare, and squash blossoms. I am officially a fan of squash blossoms now. Hubby had the duck, which was flavorful, and I had the Corn Agnolotti. Decent potion sizes for the price and we loved everything we ate. You would never know how elaborate and extensive the facilities are from just driving by. Annual family fine dining dinner. Every year we have one fine dining meal as part of the Christmas celebration including my 80 year old mother and the teens. This year we went to Cru Uncorked. The younger teen was coming fresh off of hockey practice so he had: beet salad, Asiago cheese bread with pink peppercorn butter, lobster roll, cru burger with short rib and gruyere and chocolate tart...and a bite of lamb from his dad's entree and some potato croquette from his sibling's entree and some of the chorizo emulsion from my octopus appetizer and a few bites of his dad's mocha Creme brûlée. He reports that all was great but that the lobster roll with fresh lobster, brioche, quail egg, paddlefish caviar, tiny celery and black truffle coulis was the best. Since he ate 1/2 the menu, take his word for it. To be clear all was well loved by him. With the exception of the lobster roll, the octopus app and the escargot, I would recommend sticking to beef or lamb here. Hubs had the lamb: loved it! Mom had short ribs: loved it! Older teen had filet mignon: loved it! Younger teen had the burger: loved it! I had the dover sole: liked it. It was alright. good food, good service, nice atmosphere....nothing drop dead amazing, but good. For the price of the food, I have a high expectation and they demand to be critiqued due to this. So i would say that some of the accents on the plate simply did not elevate the dish, they seemed to be used simply to "decorate" the plate, and could have been left off. It seemed they were used to "fool" you into why you're paying as much as you are. I also feel that the Pre-meal bread could have been much better and with this quality Meal, and at ANY meal like this, I typically would expect an Amuse Bouche. I am assuming they either never serve this, or didn't because it was a weekday, but that's just cutting corners and not acceptable. All that aside, my Biggest complaint would simply be that they label themselves as "French" and this simply did Not at all feel French. Most of our items were more Italian than French. This Mis-identity simply made me feel misled and confused. I don't want to downplay the meal, I enjoyed it, I just think there were a few missteps that if resolved would have put it where it needs to be. This place simply would never survive in Las Vegas or Los Angeles because it just was not good enough cohesion, but in a small town like Chagrin Falls/Moreland Hills, it works with a captive audience. The Short Ribs, delicious but the meat was dry, not juicy or succulent at all. Scallops sweet, plump and juicy, but the rest if the dish underwhelming. Monkfish cooked and seasoned perfectly and probably the best dish of the three entrees we had. Drinks were well made and flavorful. The wine list was abundant with many allocated or hard to find wines. With that said you will also pay a premium for those wines and pretty much all the wines on the list, with only a small handful of wines under $100. The building is designed well and made with plenty of stone and wood giving a very high end feel. The menu is shorter than you might expect but the food delivers everything you could hope for. A bottle of pellegrino for the table, 1 app, 2 glasses of wine, and 2 entrees cost $180 before tip. Would I spend this kind of money every day? Of course not.
