Arrived 10 min before they stop cooking on a Sunday evening... greeted so pleasantly by the girls working. No one seemed put out that we were coming in so late - so refreshing. Ordered a catfish basket and a full basket of hush puppies. It was huge! 5 big pcs of fish and a ton of fresh cut fries. Nice big bowl of tartar sauce, side of pickles, onions, and bread. Everything cooked perfectly. Drinks stayed full, waitress was attentive. Would eat here again and would probably try one of their other menu items. Overall pretty solid meal. read more

A friend of mine and I were in the area and hungry so we chose Doug's peach Orchard. The first thing I noticed is that everything on the menu is fried. The only thing in the restaurant that is not fried are the condiments. My friend ordered catfish and he enjoyed them. I, on the other hand, ordered steak fingers which I was told were homemade. They were extremely tough and chewy and had very little flavor. I had to cut the meat in small bites just to be able to chew it. The french fries were very greasy. The hush puppies were excellent though. You will probably love this place if you like fried food but stick with the catfish. The waitstaff was very friendly and provided good service. read more

Food was average to sub-par. Ambiance is great for a country place, and you definitely will feel relaxed there. Of the last maybe 5 times I've had fried catfish at different places, this is probably the worst. As others have said, the fish is so thin it dries out to become catfish chips. You bite it and can't tell where the breading stops and the fish begins because it is all so dehydrated. And I actually really love my catfish crispy - but this was too much. Needed a double dose of salt to bring out some flavor. Fries were greasy and soggy and also needed a ton of salt. Everything served here is in basket form. So if you want to try a variety of things, you will be purchasing fries with each of them. They offered to drop the fries from one of our dishes, warning us there were a lot of fries coming, but of course we were still paying full price for the basket. No hush puppies are included with the baskets, which is odd. Speaking of hush puppies, they were really great! Tartar sauce was also really great. Corn dogs are not homemade but are still tasty, as any fried corn dog is. The calf fries tasted like liver, which is not my thing, so I won't judge them. But the liver-eaters at my table enjoyed them, and they were crispy. Iced tea was cloudy and mucky, and weak. Definitely would not recommend this place, which is a total shame. I grew up in the area, and have been hearing about this place for decades! It's a local legend. read more

Food use to be good. WE were in the area and decided to stop. What a disappointment. The Fish was cut so thin and fried so hard It was hard to eat. I might of taken 3 bites. My husband got chicken strips that was fried so hard they could not be cut. French fries were nasty. Tasted like they were in fried in old grease. Paid out and was asked how was your dinner. We told the waitress it was horrible and she just blew it off. Cost us $30.00 for a lesson. We won't be going back. Nasty dirty place should have known. read more

Never miss an opportunity to eat here! Our favorite...steak fingers are best you'll ever eat, fries are good! Hush puppies are good & even though I don't eat fish which my husband says is excellent, the tartar sauce is infamous! The employees are the best! Well worth the drive here. Hell it's worth an outta the way, drive here. Best damn catfish for 100 mile radius. I recently moved back in the area and I don't mind driving 60 miles round trip to eat here. Cash only, no frills, cold beer and awesome catfish. The calf fries are great to. "THE ABSOLUTE BEST!" been going there since I was in High School in Wichita Falls class of 68. Every time we travel to North Texas or New Mexico we will always take a slight detour to make it to Doug's. I don't like tartar sauce but I love theirs. What's especially wonderful the interior stays just as it was when I first went to Doug's. There is absolutely no place across this land that even comes close to Doug's catfish & tartar sauce. Doug's has two of the major food groups: catfish and calf fries. Both are great. We usually share a twofer - one orders a catfish, the other a calf fries. French fries are great as well. I'm getting hungry just thinking about Doug's. read more

Drove 140 miles roundtrip to try Doug's Catfish, boy was it worth the trip. This place has been there I believe since the 40's, I can see why, it's small no frills with some of the best Catfish I have had in years. We both had a half order, which comes with 4 pieces of fish, house cut fries, house made Tartar sauce, onion slices, pickles, bread, for $9.95. This is small town America with some of the nicest people you could find. The beer is ICE COLD, the way it should be. Take cash no credit cards accepted. We will be making this trip again. read more

The 1/2 order of catfish was almost more than I needed but I finished every morsel of the thin cut lightly breaded fried perfectly portions. Highly recommend the hush puppies, crusty outside with soft interior. Good service, extra cold beer served with a frozen glass, real tea. The fries did not live up to the rest of the meal but who cared? Certainly not me. If you need fine dining skip this place (silverware is under the food served in a red plastic basket). The catfish was thin and the breading was thick, but the tartar sauce was the best I've ever had! The french fries were average. If we go back it would be for the tartar sauce! Everything at this restaurant is fried. EVERYTHING. The calf fries were soggy. The catfish was so thin all you could taste was the cornmeal batter. The fries were home cut and good but the onion rings were tough. Hush puppies don't come with the catfish. They are an extra charge. Also don't expect Cole slaw as there is none to be found. FYI, the shrimp is the frozen flat Sams club variety. The menu is only about ten items. Also, the coconut pie did not look good and the pecan pie looked and tasted like a frozen store bought pie. This is a restaurant that I had heard a lot of good things about and was dying to try. We were seated promptly and the overall experience was a good one. Everyone raved about the tartar sauce, catfish and steak fingers so we tried them all. I'm 6'4" and weigh 260 lbs and the full portion was just right for me, but most people should probably go with the half order. The food was hot and tasty and the more I ate the better it got. The down side to this little place was three fold: waitress, water and payment. With a small selection on the menu, ordering was quick and the waitress reflected this attitude. She wasn't friendly or even unfriendly, just quick and that almost came off as rude. All the waitresses were this way so it's not really that big a deal. The water tasted strange and this gave the tea a strange flavor also. Just beware of this and go with soda. Lastly, they only accept cash or check so bring plenty of money. They do have an ATM on site if you need one. So, in summary, good food, bad water and efficient waitresses! I will go back again in six months when the urge for fish hits me. read more
