Dougan Falls is so incredibly beautiful. My wife and I go there at least once in each season. This Fall the water was so powerful and it was pouring outside which was a lot of fun because we like outings in the rain! We were the only ones there but there is plenty of parking even when it's busy. Just make sure you have a "Discover Pass". You can swim there in the summer too. It's just a peaceful beautiful place to be and the drive up the Washougal River is beautiful too. read more

East to access (not wheelchair accessible tho for going down into the water). There is a restroom and a garbage bin. I enjoyed my visit but do bring a spare trash bag and help keep it clean. Few bad apples leaving food to rot on the rocks and cans/bottles and doggie bags left behind. Could use more visits for the trash service as the bin was overflowing and folks were not packing out their trash as they should have. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect from Dougan, as what I'd seen online was mostly about its swimming appeal. But it's a nice lil falls...certainly not showing off in height, but shining in the width department. There's quite a bit of parking available, as Dougan sits at pretty much the end of the road. She's running pretty swift and hard right now, with beautiful blues coming up from the rock below. You can check it all out by walking down to the waters edge, or from above on the bridge. read more

Year 2010 Wow! This place hasn't change much. These photos were taken in 2010 so please excuse the quality as my phone didn't have one of those amazing technology back then as we have today. This has been the best hangout place for all types of ages, but mostly, younger groups on summer vacation. Back then it's one of the places where my hubby and his friends would hang out and just enjoy their summer days. It is one of the best place to meet for picnic and spend your entire day. There's trails to explore and the adventure never ends. The drive here is great of bike rides...my hubby and I enjoy our weekend rides here too! read more

Just past Dougan Falls is another place called Naked Falls. My boyfriend and I have been going there since last summer and I just want to say that this year we have been left very disappointed. This past weekend we decided to stop by for a visit and the land was absolutely covered in garbage. From dog poop bags to empty beer bottles and boxes, the place was an absolute mess! On top of that, down by the river, (which is about 20 feet below the parking area) lots of dust was being kicked up by passerby's driving WAY too fast. We ended our visit by making our way back up to our car which was heavily damaged by what we assume to be a rock being flung up by fast drivers. This place is typically beautiful so long as visitors keep the area CLEAN and SAFE. We are debating whether or not we will be returning this summer. read more

cool spot but the best swimming hole in WA, i dont think so. very popular, you will be around a lot of chaos. do not go up to naked falls, it is a total parking scam with zero amenities for the pricing being perpetrated by the owner of the property($13/day versus $30 for a yearly discover pass) and the river is very similar in most of its run. get a discover pass and you at least have access to a port of potty and garbage dumpster and established parking, park where it is legal(pretty good signage), walk up the road until you find your spot. do you duty and pack out your trash. a more accessible spot is near the fish hatchery. read more

Beautiful waterfall with great opportunities for swimming. My family had a great time at Dougan Falls today. This fall requires a discover pass, but parking is easy and the hike is minimal. Very short walk down rocks. No accessibility, but easy enough for young kids and pets. The water was cold at first, but very refreshing. The waterfall area has great pools and opportunities for jumping. There are quieter area with more shallow, warmer water down stream. This waterfall is about an hour drive from Portland and makes a great day trip. read more

This is a very popular spot! I went here for the first time today and I couldn't believe the amount of people that were here. There is plenty of parking. There are a couple of parking lots plus you can park on the side of the road but you have to have a discovery pass. If you don't you will get a $99 parking ticket. There are people who just drive up and down to ticket you. Washington will squeeze whatever amount of money as they can out of you. The hike down isn't too bad. I saw a lot of people with coolers and canopy's. Their tiny pools make is easy to cool off in a hot day. read more

This is one of those perfect spots! Not overcrowded, treacherous enough to get to which seems to weed out a lot of people. The swimming itself is pretty great though slippery so be careful but there are loads of great spots to lounge in or out of the water. Be careful though since you need to spend the $10 for a parking pass or you get a $90+ ticket! read more

Let me start by saying that I give the Falls and nature 5000+ stars! The Falls, the nature surrounding it, the swimming holes, the smaller falls...amazing!!!! I imagine going there after a rainfall to see it at its prime and clean!! Although I would hate to see all the garbage being washed down the river! Yes, garbage! We arrived first at the upper part since that's what we saw on pics. I immediately walked down excited to see it before getting our stuff out of the trunk. So glad I did that. Immediately I could smell human waste and see garbage everywhere. So many items of clothing and towels left behind too. The natural holes on the rocks were probably used as bathroom because the water inside reminded me of a Honey Bucket and the smell was terrible. My husband and daughter came down and Immediately said...let's leave. Luckily we checked out the lower part, across the bridge, or we would have wasted our almost 2 hr drive. That part was cleaner, specially after I gathered a little bit of garbage, cigarette butts and threw dirt on some human waste. At least it had no awful odors. We arrived around 9am and had the place to ourselves for 2 hrs or so. Around 12, the crowds were coming in at a fast pace. We left at 1:30pm and as we drove out, lines of cars were coming. I can't imagine what the place looked like after they left or the next morning. People, please take a garbage bag with you and bring back your garbage. Bring back your clothes. Bring back your towels. Take a can for your cigarette butts. Nature cannot take all this abuse much longer. A gorgeous place like that can't turn into a wasteland. I moved here from a country where places like that look like sewer. Believe me, it can happen and it would be so sad! read more

(From The Web) Dougan Falls on the Washougal River is the major waterfall of the immediate area, but Dougan Creek also slides 12 feet into a beautiful little orange and blue pool in the same area. A small viewing deck overlooks the falls from within the Dougan Creek Campground picnic area, but several branches block totally clear views. The pool at the base of the falls serves as a fantastic swimming hole in the summer. To Find Dougan Creek Falls Driving east from Washougal towards Stevenson along Highway 14, turn north on Salmon Falls Road (10 miles west of Bridge of the Gods or 3 miles east of Cape Horn) and follow it for 3 miles to Washougal River Road. This seems to be a popular spot to take a dip in the river near the falls, so the parking area was quite full when we stopped by on a weekday back in July. There are some trails that wind around along the river as well so we spent some time hiking because the falls area was busy with swimmers. You can get a nice view of the falls from the bridge going into the parking area. There were a lot of picnic tables at various points along the trails so it would be a pretty spot to take a rest of enjoy a picnic lunch. The trails were rough and uneven in some parts, so depending on the ages in your group and levels of mobility that will determine how far you wander. read more

This is such a beautiful spot. So nice for swimming. That is if there isn't a mob of inconsiderate people that descend on it. We went out on Sunday Feb 21. We got there early and got a nice spot. There were just a few other groups. We had a nice 1 1/2 hours until large groups came with big speakers and trash left everywhere. What is wrong with people!! There are no trash cans or dumpsters so what you bring in should be brought out. Unfortunately that's not the case. 4 ladies came and set up right next to us. We are all nonsmoking and all 4 lit up their cigarettes and started playing loud music that we didn't want to hear. One little boy whose father was standing right next to him threw an empty plastic water bottle right on the rocks. I asked him to pick it up and I took it to put in our trash bag. The father never acknowledged this. Please if you go here, don't destroy this beautiful place. Pick up your trash (all of it including you cigarette butts) and take it out. Be respectful of others with your music. Keep It low so it does not bother others. So sad to see what happened today. read more

This is a true camping gem, with some of the best hosts I have had the opportunity to meet. Ed and Wanda are the salt of this earth people and if we as a society could be more like them we would all be "happy campers" . There is limited camping sites so don't be bummed if you don't find one . These falls were an amazing place to spend the day. Even when it's gloomy outside. Could be a little dangerous for dogs that aren't trained yet or can't swim. The falls are beautiful and a fun place to take the kids. There is a small hill to climb down so don't plan on taking too much stuff and wear water shoes of some kind as it's very rocky. The only reason for 4 stars not 5 is that you must buy a parking pass. The only reason we knew to buy a pass was there was an officer giving tickets when we arrived. We then had to drive 9 miles back down to purchase one. Bummer! read more

Great place to visit on a warm day, but get in there early as a lot of folk have the same idea. We ended up in the family 'friendly' spot which was kinda cool as we didn't feel like dealing with beer drinking yahoos.
