This is SUCH a change from NYC DMV offices! It's quite small, and the employees are friendly, efficient, and helpful. You don't need a paper ticket anymore. They'll text your ticket number and counter number to you. I was there on the last day of the month, and it wasn't jam-packed, nor did the staff seem harried. I've tried the kiosk at King Soopers, and they have NEVER accepted my checks. So annoying. You're basically forced to use a card, and then you're charged a fee. I forgot my checkbook today, so got stuck with the fee again. My fault, though. read more

Everyone hates the DMV. Including me. However after my experience I had today I can honestly never again say that. The entire staff made this experience a breeze. Just moved from Cali and was going in to get my car registered. No appointment. In and out in less than an hour for half the cost of registering in SD. I believe the lady's name who helped me was Shai or Shay...i'm sorry for not remembering but my goodness. God bless you. You made my day. This is the best DMV I've been to in Colorado and I've lived here my whole life - so I've been to quite a few. Reception is very nice and helpful, it's clean, you feel safe, and the staff is nice. I've waited 1-2 hours 3 to 4 times trying to register my car from a private seller out of state. Because Colorado doesn't do E-titling and because the DMV is only open Monday-Friday 8-4:30 the process has been a disaster. I take off work every single time because I work longer hours than the entire DMV is open! I had to request a physical copy of the title from the private seller (which I obtained), I have the notarized bill of sale, I have insurance papers, the private sellers registration, a VIN inspection, and Smog inspection and they still won't transfer the title under my name. This time, you won't transfer the title under my name because I checked the odometer reading box stating it was correct at 67,000 miles and then X'd out the other boxes to signal I didn't want to fill those out, please see the picture below. Because I X'd out the boxes the idiots at the DMV won't accept the odometer reading with a check through it. So now they want me to get another physical copy of the title from the out of state private seller which I can't get ahold of and refill it out? What a hassle. It would be nice if there was at least a touch of leniency considering we don't deal with this paper work every single day like you guys do. See the checked box below versus the X'd out boxes and see if you can infer what the document was trying to state. I bet you can random person on the internet! But DMV is incapable when you get a policy abiding employee with no pull on the ridiculously stringent policies. read more

I know the DMV is usually the pits, but man. I had such an amazing experience! Came in around 10:15 on a Wednesday, appointment-less. Hardly anyone there. The security guard and the customer service person BOTH smiled and greeted me when I walked in. I got my number and sat down. Since there was no one there I only waited about 5 minutes. Then was called to counter 4. I had all my docs ready after a crappy experience at the Highlands Ranch location ‍ the person who assisted me here was kind, she gave me information respectfully, she made small talk and it was just really nice. I recently moved here and it's been a change. But her kindness really made me feel welcome :) I wish I knew her name! I wanted to give her a big hug when I was leaving! Great service, friendly staff, clean waiting room and easy process. 100/10. read more

Went to do a title transfer today at about 8:45 and wow was it the best experience I've ever had at a dmv. Being from California every single dmv I had been to was basically like walking into the devils dingus. Would take hours and the workers also seemed like they had been in prison for all eternity. Not the case at this glorious lone tree dmv. Got my plates, registration and title all handled within 20 minutes and no appointment. Everyone working there was very nice which was such a relief. I was dreading this day for a long time and it ended up being amazing. Thank you!! read more

If you need a Douglas County DMV, this is for sure the best one! Besides the tellers being smart, efficient and understanding they are...get ready...VERY KIND! As we all know, going to the DMV can be infuriating. I have never felt like that here. The staff, from the security guard to the "tellers" are pleasant to deal with . The wait is average and the vibe is calm and relaxed. I would highly recommend this location over the other Douglas County DMV options, even if you have to travel a bit for it. read more

I never thought the day would come where I would give a DMV a 5-star rating! But now that I have gone to the Lone Tree location and worked with Betty Jo I absolutely had to share my positive experience. I had recently moved to Colorado from Arizona and had to have my title transferred over to CO in order to do a trade-in with the dealership. I had gone down the checklist and believed that I had all of the paperwork necessary, but then in good old DMV fashion, I found out that I needed to get a VIN inspection (we don't have those in AZ) and that it would take 4-6 weeks to receive my new title. This was the WORST news possible seeing as I had just purchased my new car and was expecting to pick it up that day. I was upset, confused, and overwhelmed. I had no clue on what to do next and couldn't take the extra time off of work to figure everything out. Usually, when you get a "no" at the DMV they hurry you away and call the next number, leaving you to figure it out. Not Betty Jo. Her demeanor calmed me down and she was more than helpful with explaining a process that I knew nothing about. She could tell that I was overwhelmed and not understanding what to do next and wrote out a quick letter for me to bring to the dealership explaining what would need to be done and how I could expedite the process. I had to leave the DMV a bit disappointed not knowing what to expect from the dealership. After heading back to where I purchased my new car, I explained what Betty Jo had told me and showed them the letter. With her help, they were able to make it possible and I was able to drive away with my new car. I then went back to the DMV with the VIN inspection completed and Betty Jo helped me again. We were able to do the title transfer and I cannot relay enough how excellent her service was. She turned a potential nightmare into a positive experience. I would pay a fee to not have to interact with the people they have working to register/renew plates. I understand that many "customers" make working here difficult, but does that mean you have to treat everyone like you they are your worst nightmare? The girl that sits in front of the kiosk gets the worst part and she was the nicest one there. Melissa took my registrations cards barked questions at me and then shoved my plates my way with a look that said just leave. Usually this office is crowded, but the time goes pretty fast... but BEWARE! over the next few weeks, there are 4-5 new employees training and if you have something more complicated than a simple registration renewal you will wait...like more than two hours. The clerks that have experience are all helping the new employees and won't take customers themselves. The good news is that the new employees they have hired still have a really good attitude and are friendly. Hope they stay that way! read more

In the last couple months I have noticed an absurd amount of construction in Douglas County. It's as if Douglas county is both doing any and everything with the roads and other projects to inconvenience and impact traffic, while at the same time handing out construction permits like they were pizza discount coupons. Literally everywhere you go, in Highlands Ranch, there is hardly a main road and often side road slowed by construction, cone zones and/or maintenance of some kind. Just the other day there was construction zones on HR parkway, Lincoln, Colorado Blvd and University ALL AT THE SAME TIME, plus work on a pole along University once you got out of that area !!! But it doesn't end there, because there is construction of buildings, shopping centers, grocery stores and parking lots being done , again, ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! And then there was Broadway where some bozo thought it was a good idea to re-do more than one lane at the same time or in opposite directions, instead of one lane at a time, to cause the least impact to traffic!!!! While I certainly understand and support that our community needs maintenance and growth, the whole purpose of "PLANNING" is to keep it reasonable and coordinated, and in the year 2016 with GIS and great communication technology, timing and managing all these projects should be able to be done much better. Instead it's as if Douglas County has been in some kind of anarchist construction blitz to cause the most traffic jams and inconvenience shoppers , commuters, commerce and residents as much as possible. And I know it can't be because it's because its' summer and the weather is condusive. Not with the constant rain, wind and even hail storms we have been having. That's no better time than sprint or fall. So can someone please explain this observation and the very annoying wasteful impact to our lives in Highlands Ranch , and what happened to the concept of planning and limiting construction permits within reason? After all that is the purpose of a planning commission and department. read more

I'm actually giving a government office five stars. Yup, I'm truly not crazy. I went on the last business day of October which would have been a crazy day normally however I've learned from living in other cities that the key to a DMV is what time you arrive. I arrived about 45 minutes before opening and was fourth in line. By the time they opened there were likely 30 people behind me. I didn't even have to sit down!! I was called to the counter too quickly. Yikes! This was going really well! And then, I realized I forgot my insurance card BUT the clerk (who was very nice by the way) said for me to just run out to my car and get it. She had everything else ready by the time I ran back in and I was truly in and out of there within 15 minutes. An all time record!!! read more
