As we all know the juror process I won't boar you with that. I will say the summons puts the unnecessary fear of god in you and to ensure you're on time for the jury perquisites. As we waited in line to get in the courthouse it went fairly smoothly. I felt bad for the people who called the jurors number and was told to come in just to be told they didn't need to show up especially after waiting 30 minutes in the unusual cold snap we had that day. Jury duty here might as well be an adult field trip to propagandize the masses about the merits of the American judicial system. It was actually crazy, they spent a solid 15 minutes lecturing an audience of jurors that are forced to be there about how American has the best justice system ever. And during this process I kid you not I tried to go to the bathroom and the judge stopped me and called me out in front of the whole courtroom. That being said, the courtroom was like 60 "jurors" and 5 people that actually needed to be there. Crazy how these practices are legal and accepted. read more

If you are not excused, I advise arriving before 7:30 a.m., when the doors open, so you can get through security quickly and arrive at the jury summons room on time. You fill out another questionnaire (similar to the summons you must bring), which helps the judges and lawyers determine the first round of excusals. If you are "lucky" enough to make it through that round, you will be taken upstairs to the courtroom for the voir dire process. Depending on the number of jurors needed, you may need to stay for lunch. There is a reasonably priced cafeteria with hot and cold options and snacks. read more

There were about 125 prospective jurors lined up at the front doors of the Arapahoe County Justice Center & they were opened at 0730. We went through security & then to the jury assembly room. We handed in our summons & were given questionnaires to fill out. Our names were called & we were put in groups of about 24 & given colored "Juror" stickers. It turned out that 3 of the 5 groups were excused & the rest of us were given a 20 minute break. After the break, the clerks from the two respective courtrooms came & led us upstairs, twelve prospective jurors were seated in the jury area & the rest of us sat in the spectators area with 2 deputy sheriffs sitting at the back of the room. The judge explained the case, rules, etc, and the the prosecutors & the defense attorneys asked questions & occasionally released prospective jurors. At the end, 7 were left, 6 jurors & an alternate. It was an interesting experience. It was very well organized & everyone was friendly & helpful. read more

Went after work to talk to the Jury Commissioner, I arrived at 340, they close at 4:30pm. As myself and a few other people we're walking up to the doors, a gentleman popped his head out the door and yelled " we're closed come back tomorrow" as a state regulated building I find this to be inappropriate, I know I only had to leave work early to try and make it before they close at their normal time. But all of my effort were for nothing, and I was still unable to complete what I needed to to no fault of my own. I hope that this can be taken care of, and addressed in the future so the others don't have to deal with the same issues. read more

I know, I know...everyone cringes when they see the Jury Dury notice in the mail, but Arapahoe County has done their best to make the process of jury duty as simple and painless as possible. The doors open at 7:30 (or at least they did on the day I reported for jury duty) and there are two lines to enter. I think a lot of people do not realize there are actually two lines. You are allowed to bring in your coffee and breakfast if you like, which is quite convenient. Once you're in, you're directed to the main meeting room where they brief you on the jury selection process. Arapahoe County has a great system; once you are given a juror badge and counted, you are considered finished for the year, meaning you won't receive another summons until the next year. Ok, so I realize that if you serve after summer, that's not really a great deal, but for those of us who served in January, it's a wInner! Ther is a break room and a cafeteria onsite, so no worries on getting hangry. I was worried that it would be expensive, but I got 3 protein bars, a piece of fruit, and a large coffee for $7. I was chosen as a juror, but alas, the case did not go to trial. I was actually a little bummed because I wanted the experience. Oh well, there's always next year! read more

I was called in for jury duty at 8:00 on Monday and was dreading it. I got there at 7:45 and was quickly put through the scanners and made my way to the assigned room where I checked in at the window and was told to fill out a form. Originally you would think this is like the dmv in that people employed here are tired and cranky from the constant pouring in of people, but they weren't. The women at the window was so friendly and nice to every person that walked up. Filtering out the people who had to stay and those who had to go went quickly. I was only there for about an hour and half while they assigned people to three different cases. Thankfully I did not have to stay this time. For those who did, or who had to miss work for the morning, a note was provided. Pretty much this morning went smoothly, they made things quick, and had a great attitude. Fulfilling my civic duty I arrived about 7:30. The security line was all the way to the entrance door but did move quickly. The security line here is an up hill battle, if you've been there you get that. Please remember to go AROUND THE TABLE at the top. I think I heard the last security guy say that 3 dozen times in a matter of moments. The Jury Assembly room is large and had just been deep cleaned. There's a lot of room to move around, a room in the back for Coffee, Tea and Water and even an enclosed area for smokers or if you just want to get out and get a little fresh air while waiting. Things seemed pretty organized and not that big of a deal. You can bring pretty much whatever you want into the Jury room including outside food and drinks. No Public Wifi because they don't want you to research anything on their dime. Few plugs scattered around the room if you need them. Overall as far as Jury rooms go it was pretty nice. read more

Being a good citizen, I came in for a Jury Duty. All numbers from 94-4000+ got called in. Believe it or not. There were Jurors in the hallways and are sitting on the floor. Crazy! I am dreading this as my work desk is piled up with work and have an assistant to train, who just started yesterday and a payroll to process. Not to mention, the traffic was horrible this morning due to the snow. Anyhow, done ranting. The security line was short and quick or maybe I got lucky. The service I got was great during the whole process. My check in process for the Jury Duty was quick too, the rep was helpful and detail. Shortly after, about 20 minutes, the divisions and names got called in. A very long process. 2 hours later, we were heading to see the judge and to the court room. Cheers! read more

I know that justice isn't supposed to be a business (?), but justice is a service, and it should be delivered in a decent setting, no? The only saving grace about the ACJC's stand-alone-building-in-the-desert-of-Centennial's-scrub-fields, seems to be that the folks who work there are very nice and very competent. The building, however, and the non-existing support services don't make for happy court-goers. I'm giving this place a single star and hoping that the workers who toil there get a break someday by finding their shop on someone's renovation list. (Maybe a call to one of those TV reality home makeover shows might be a good place to start!). read more

Well, I'm not sure I'm a "fan" of the Justice Center, but after waiting four hours and being released from jury duty, attending the fun meeting you're required to go to prior to a divorce, and stopping in to get an official seal decree, I can't say I've had a single bad experience. The staff have been very cordial and helpful, but this isn't a place I hope to visiting again anytime soon. read more

I came to serve jury duty. The feedback I can offer is that this is a long process. The courts do their best to make everyone feel appreciated and they continually keep saying that they appreciate us being there... really? It's an offense that is punishable by jail if you do not respond to jury duty. So since service is required by law, they could cut all the multiple thank you's by every individual that speaks and get to the business at hand. Too much time is wasted by all the officials wanting to repeat the same statements over and over. Our time as jurors is valuable and people can sit and make excuses to get excused and exaggerate their opinions to get excused. Forcing the people to participate is a farce. The employees however are very nice, accommodating, and the cafeteria has decent food and healthy choices. I hope this input will help the speakers of the court so the jurors don't feel like you are wasting our time. The facility is very clean and the bathroom for men on level 2 was out of order, so that was a bit tacky. read more

I was called to jury duty for a criminal case against a black woman. I went on Friday, stayed most of the morning. I checked the website and my number had been called for selection day which was on Monday. On Monday I was there the entire day. They divided the potential jurors into two groups. All day I sat there and watched as they interviewed the first group of potential jurors. I had listened to the judges lectures on the judicial system and our duty to jury service blah blah blah and he had actually got me quite stoked to do this duty. It wasn't until about a half hour before our release time that it struck me that they had no intention of interviewing the second group of potential jurors at all. I have no idea why they made us take two days out of our lives, drive to and from that place during rush hour traffic, and let us believe that we were there to actually do something good. In addition, the entire group, which was very large, was entirely made up of white people , except for 2 black women, one in the first group and one in the second group. The prosecuting attorney got the black woman in the first group dismissed and the white male judge wouldn't call the black woman from the second group to potential jury selection. The entire thing made me so anoyed that I never followed up to find out if the woman was found guilty or innocent of the crime she was accused of, but I really hope she was innocent. Pretty much the entire experience sucked and I hope I am never called to jury duty in this county again. read more
