They prefer you make an appointment, mostly so they have a table big enough for all of your goodies (should you choose to have the proper afternoon tea, which includes lots of different items). We arrived on Friday for our reservation at 1 pm and there were two or three other groups there. The place is charming, with that homemade feel. They offer several options for afternoon tea, ranging from about £5 for a cake/scone and tea, to around £15 for the finger foods and lunch options. I opted for the former and had a scone with grapes (they were out of plain scones) and lemon ginger tea. My wife had the same scone with chamomile. We were both very impressed with the quality of the food and the lovely service we were given. They have more than just tea. They make proper cakes and serve breakfast and lunch, as well as offer unique specials. This is place is a must try!

To avoid confusion, I directly asked the server if one sharing menu was enough for all of us. He said he recommended two -- not that it was required. We decided one was enough and ordered extra rotis and rice. We were served one sharing menu. When the bill came, we were charged for two. Management couldn't clearly explain why, other than saying, "We don't allow 5 people to share one menu." If that's the policy, it should be clearly stated or clearly communicated, especially to first-time customers. Charging us for food we never received is unacceptable. This place clearly cares more about money than honesty or customer experience. Avoid. Do no recommend

We were quick to jump on Mowgli because we're avid Indian cuisine lovers, and it had such a solid…read morerating. Unfortunately, this was not our favorite meal in Liverpool. First, it is a tapas-style dine, which if you know me, is already setting you up for massive success. Getting to sample a lit bit of everything? And in an Indian restaurant to boot??? Sign me up every week! We were encouraged by our server to order 3 items per person, keeping in line with the tapas framework. I suspected this was misleading, and it was! We probably left half the food we ordered behind. These were NOT tapas portions. It was an insane amount of food for two people. The saddest part is we didn't want to take any leftovers back the hotel. Out of all the dishes we ordered, maybe one dish had the right balance. Everything else was sickeningly sweet, like ketchup was the main ingredient. On top of that, some dishes were very spicy. I'm not talking caucasian spicy, I'm talking "whoa, did the top fall off the shaker" spicy. Let me remind you, we eat Vindaloo-level curries on the regular. The dishes were just generally very overbalanced: too much heat in some dishes combined with stomach-churning sweetness. It just was not what we are accustomed to. That being said, the interior is really beautiful, and it's not a terrible place by any stretch. I would say a solid 3.5 stars. This might be the best Indian in Liverpool. I don't know, I'm not local. But if I spend more time in Liverpool, I will be seeking out other Indian options before returning here. Try it out! You might be the person they're cooking for.

Deli Fonseca is one of the few places that makes me wish I was loaded…read more A fab independent deli in Liverpool's business district, it's packed floor to ceiling with all kinds of mouthwatering goodies. The gigantic counter displays a myriad of delicious cheeses, hams, olives, pates, anti-pasti and salads whilst the nearby baskets display fresh sticks and loaves of bread. To top it off, they have dozens of wooden shelves groaning with all kinds of lovely store cupboard treats from organic granola, cereals and cookies to oat cakes, chutneys, olive oils, vinegars, sauces and spices. Now, where did I put that darn lottery ticket?

Nothing complicated - in the end, I ordered a Greek salad and a plate of Serrano ham rather than the pricier mains on the blackboards. I'm not sure how two really basic things could be so disappointing. I think it's because on the surface, this looks like a place that prides itself on sourcing and attention to detail. On the specials during my visit were such items as hand foraged local samphire, Cumbrian lamb and Pink's award winning sausages. So why was the Greek salad about 50% raw onion? Why did it feature those mealy crunchy supermarket basics tomatoes, cold from the fridge? Even the black olives mentioned on the menu were green. And they clearly did have black olives in the kitchen, because my four slices of Serrano ham (almost £6) came topped with a single olive. They boasted it was "20 month aged" - most of it had clearly been in their fridge, as it featured a faint tang of refrigerator and managed to be unpleasantly rubbery. Not sure how Serrano ham can even go rubbery but there you go. If you've boasting of excellent ingredients then it's unacceptable for the basics to fail so badly. I wouldn't bother returning.

They served up a fantastic matcha latte, and Liz got a cappuccino. I thought this place was a fine place to eat breakfast, or if we wanted to get a coffee or tea to go. Liz and 'Em had pancakes... although it looked like smaller portions they were filled quickly. I had a morning brekkie with meat, which came with toast, bacon, a small tub of beans, roasted tomato and spinach, and toasted eggs. It was all pretty delicious. The server offered sauces (hot sauce or ketchup). I was pretty content with the food. All types of folks come in and all are treated the same. If you're up around the area - or on the way to the World Museum, stop by.
