This will be my new locksmiths in mind now. Well I always go to its competitor but then I have decide to look for a new one. I found Downtown. Their rating was good on Yelp and so I have decided to give it a try. Its located in the basement, which is hard to know that it exist unless you google or is told by someone or by Yelp, of course. So this one is close by to where I am located. I am looking for a store front Mortise Cyclinder Lock. Went in and got help right away. They had the Mortise Cyclinder lock on site and they rekeyed the Cyclinder lock and sold it to me for a very reasonable price. The locksmith was infact surprised how I know how to take the lock out. I also got the locksmith to rekey a 2 sided commercial key. He was honest and told me even him himself has no guarantee that the key will work because its one of those really difficult key to rekey. I like his honesty. Honesty is good. Downtown is very honest and very professional. They are my go to lock problem people Now. Thumbs up to them. read more

Excellent Serivce. My office always has their keys cut here - cheap and fast. Today we found ourselves locked out of one of the offices (thanks cleaner!) with no key. Called these people up, they sent out a guy really fast, and it was cheaper than the other quote I got. $100 for him to come out , unlocking the door, and 3 copies all done within 40 minutes. If they make a movie about key makers, it's going to star this guy. This man knows keys. Period. I walk in, show him my key and he immediately starts giving me a rundown on its performance. Basically he was saying that if my key were an instrument, it would be slightly out of tune... He was spot on. A couple of times in the past my key seemed to "freeze" in the lock and I wasn't able to turn it. He told me to keep the original key as a copy template, but only use the 2 new key copies he made me for day to day locking and unlocking. In and out of his shop in 5 minutes and about 7 dollars for 2 new keys. The Key Master is real... and he works in downtown Vancouver. read more

I've been meaning to have a key cut for ages but haven't gotten around to it... I stopped in to get a key cut and was impressed with how quickly and relatively inexpensive it was to get a key cut here. I actually ended up getting another one cut due to the price. I've had issues with other places after having a key cut and the key not working. But the key worked perfectly, it actually worked better than the original key in opening my door lock. read more

A little tricky to find...but fully stocked key shop, friendly guys...cut keys THAT WORK! And I could get there with my stroller...so that's as good as it gets in my books. You have to go through the doors into a lobby, and then through another set of doors to the back entrance to the building (turn right to go down stairs, left to go down the elevator) then follow the signs and you are there. Getting broken into sucks. If dealing with the loss, the insurance company and the police isn't stressful enough, you also need to find a locksmith to fix your doors and locks too. When my closest go-to locksmith was too busy to fulfill my request (despite the fact that they said they had time for me that day) Downtown Lock'n Key came to the rescue. I have an old Japanese car and I needed an additional key cut. I got a blank from Japan and went to this shop to get it cut. The gentleman there warned me that he's not very comfortable cutting a blank that he didn't know and that it might be finicky. I said I'll take my chances. Sure enough, the key didn't work. When I went back, instead of telling me "I warned you", he grabbed his tools, walked the two blocks to my car and spent 20 minutes filing and adjusting the key until it worked! No extra charge!! can't ask more for the $4 I paid to get the key cut! That's the kind of service that I would definitely pay extra for! read more

Quick, friendly service, located smack in the middle of Yaletown. The guy running what seems to be a one-man show was able to duplicate a key that Canadian Tire and Home Depot couldn't, less expensively and in a quarter of the time to boot. You can tell he has been doing this forever as he immediately looked at my original key, said "Well isn't that interesting," and was able to pin it as belonging to a cheap Asian knockoff of a Canadian lock, stamped with the incorrect size and requiring some special footwork to copy. Can't believe the SERVICE and HONESTY!!! Just called as I thought my front door lock was broken. The locksmith came all the way to my apartment and all that was needed was a little oil. The locksmith could have easily just upsold me into a new lock with all the bells and whistles but instead was honest. Wow! I didn't think that happened anymore! What a gentleman! Colin, the owner, installed my Schlage Home Sense door lock. It's an automated door lock that syncs with the iPhone. I wanted it done professionally. He quoted me $130. to do the job, which was much cheaper than other places that I received estimated quotes from. After it was all said and done, it cost me $125. + tax. I used Downtown's mobile service to re-key the doors on my house. I also wanted to discuss potential upgrades to my hardware, but the locksmith who attended the call expressed that the existing hardware was sturdy and there wasn't a need to improve anything. I appreciated their honesty in not trying to sell me something I didn't need. Prices for a mobile call were reasonable at ~$160 in labour and costs for 7 new keys. read more
